Immigration and house prices under various labour market structures in England and Wales
This article estimates the impact of immigration on local house prices under various local economic structures in England and Wales. Typically, for the nation, newly arriving immigrants add to the overall housing demand; this would in general push up house prices when facing an upward sloping supply curve. However, sorting and native outmigration response to immigration may change the dynamics and impact at the “local” level, depressing house prices through income change. We use data on England and Wales to investigate the local house price effect of immigration when taking into account the local economic structure of the areas, particularly with respect to employment density and average socioeconomic profile of workers. We found that in high density of employment areas but with majority of the occupations in low skill sets, there is a negative house price effect led by immigrant inflows, and this might be due to a type of tenure “downgrade” in the area as immigrants increase the rate of free renting and squatting. Free renters are less likely to participate in the housing market themselves and an increase in the rate of this form of tenure could also reduce their mobility further, hence lead to lower level of housing stock turnover and transaction related renovation; as a result, both housing quality and house price fall. The evidence is in addition to the native flight argument typically found in the literature to explain house price depreciation led by immigration
Possible Role of Hydrogen Sulfide in Insulin Secretion and in Development of Insulin Resistance
H2S has been proposed as physiological important molecule. It is considered as first endogenous gaseous K+ channel opener. K+ ATP channel activity is mainly responsible for insulin secretion. K+ATP channel opening of β cells leads to inhibition of insulin secretion and channels closing leads to secretion. H2S is the gaseous K+ ATP channel opener but it does not have channel specificity. So, H2S may have some effect on insulin secretion. H2S is high in Zuker diabetic fatty rats. That means H2S is high in insulin resistance condition. We tried to find out the role of H2S in insulin secretion and in development of insulin resistance. From the result of our study, H2S have K+ ATP channel opening activity on β cells. H2S does not have any role in the development of insulin resistance. Decrease in insulin level in Zuker diabetic rat and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat is due to high H2S level
Electroweak Radiative Corrections to Parity-Violating Electroexcitation of the
We analyze the degree to which parity-violating (PV) electroexcitation of the
resonance may be used to extract the weak neutral axial vector
transition form factors. We find that the axial vector electroweak radiative
corrections are large and theoretically uncertain, thereby modifying the
nominal interpretation of the PV asymmetry in terms of the weak neutral form
factors. We also show that, in contrast to the situation for elastic electron
scattering, the axial PV asymmetry does not vanish at the photon
point as a consequence of a new term entering the radiative corrections. We
argue that an experimental determination of these radiative corrections would
be of interest for hadron structure theory, possibly shedding light on the
violation of Hara's theorem in weak, radiative hyperon decays.Comment: RevTex, 76 page
Floquet scattering in parametric electron pumps
A Floquet scattering approach to parametric electron pumps is presented and
compared with Brouwer's adiabatic scattering approach [Phys. Rev. B 58, R10135
(1998)] for a simple scattering model with two harmonically oscillating
delta-function barriers. For small strength of oscillating potentials these two
approaches give exactly equivalent results while for large strength, these
clearly deviate from each other. The validity of the adiabatic theory is also
discussed by using the Wigner delay time obtained from the Floquet scattering

Parity nonconservation in deuteron photoreactions
We calculate the asymmetries in parity nonconserving deuteron
photodisintegration due to circularly polarized photons gamma+d to n+p with the
photon laboratory energy ranging from the threshold up to 10 MeV and the
radiative capture of thermal polarized neutrons by protons n+p to gamma+d. We
use the leading order electromagnetic Hamiltonian neglecting the smaller
nuclear exchange currents. Comparative calculations are done by using the
Reid93 and Argonne v18 potentials for the strong interaction and the DDH and
FCDH "best" values for the weak couplings in a weak one-meson exchange
potential. A weak NDelta transition potential is used to incorporate also the

Parity nonconserving cold neutron-parahydrogen interactions
Three pion dominated observables of the parity nonconserving interactions
between the cold neutrons and parahydrogen are calculated. The transversely
polarized neutron spin rotation, unpolarized neutron longitudinal polarization,
and photon-asymmetry of the radiative polarized neutron capture are considered.
For the numerical evaluation of the observables, the strong interactions are
taken into account by the Reid93 potential and the parity nonconserving
interactions by the DDH model along with the two-pion exchange.Comment: 17 pages, 2 figure
Chitosan/TPP microparticles obtained by microemulsion method applied in controlled release of heparin
AbstractThis work deals with the preparation of chitosan/tripolyphosphate microparticles (CHT/TPP) using microemulsion system based on water/benzyl alcohol. The morphology of the microparticles was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The microparticles were also characterized through infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). The morphology and crystallinity of microparticles depended mainly on CHT/TPP ratio. Studies of controlled release of HP were evaluated in distilled water and in simulated gastric fluid. Besides, the profile of HP releasing could be tailored by tuning the CHT/TPP molar ratio. Finally, these prospective results allow the particles to be employed as site-specific HP controlled release system
Theory of charge transport in diffusive normal metal / unconventional singlet superconductor contacts
We analyze the transport properties of contacts between unconventional
superconductor and normal diffusive metal in the framework of the extended
circuit theory. We obtain a general boundary condition for the Keldysh-Nambu
Green's functions at the interface that is valid for arbitrary transparencies
of the interface. This allows us to investigate the voltage-dependent
conductance (conductance spectrum) of a diffusive normal metal (DN)/
unconventional singlet superconductor junction in both ballistic and diffusive
cases. For d-wave superconductor, we calculate conductance spectra numerically
for different orientations of the junctions, resistances, Thouless energies in
DN, and transparencies of the interface. We demonstrate that conductance
spectra exhibit a variety of features including a -shaped gap-like
structure, zero bias conductance peak (ZBCP) and zero bias conductance dip
(ZBCD). We show that two distinct mechanisms: (i) coherent Andreev reflection
(CAR) in DN and (ii) formation of midgap Andreev bound state (MABS) at the
interface of d-wave superconductors, are responsible for ZBCP, their relative
importance being dependent on the angle between the interface normal
and the crystal axis of d-wave superconductors. For , the ZBCP is due
to CAR in the junctions of low transparency with small Thouless energies, this
is similar to the case of diffusive normal metal / insulator /s-wave
superconductor junctions. With increase of from zero to , the
MABS contribution to ZBCP becomes more prominent and the effect of CAR is
gradually suppressed. Such complex spectral features shall be observable in
conductance spectra of realistic high- junctions at very low temperature
