    EAST: Energy Efficient Adaptive Scheme for Transmission in Wireless Sensor Networks

    In this paper, we propose Energy-efficient Adaptive Scheme for Transmission (EAST) in WSNs. EAST is IEEE 802.15.4 standard compliant. In this approach, open-loop is used for temperature-aware link quality estimation and compensation. Whereas, closed-loop feedback helps to divide network into three logical regions to minimize overhead of control packets on basis of Threshold transmitter power loss (RSSIloss) for each region and current number of neighbor nodes that help to adapt transmit power according to link quality changes due to temperature variation. Simulation results show that propose scheme; EAST effectively adapts transmission power to changing link quality with less control packets overhead and energy consumption compared to classical approach with single region in which maximum transmitter power assigned to compensate temperature variation

    Hysterosalpingographic findings in infertile women: A seven year review

    Objectives: To review the hysterosalpingographic (HSG) findings in women investigated for infertility in a tertiary center in north eastern Nigeria.Materials and Methods: A retrospective review of HSG films of 272 women investigated for infertility between January 2000 and December 2006 were reviewed.Results: One hundred and thirty (47.8%) were investigated for primary infertility, while 142 (52.2%) were investigated for secondary infertility. Most of the women investigated for infertility by HSG had abnormal findings 192(70.6%). The most common pathology revealed among the infertile women was tuboperitoneal factor in 196 (72.1%) followed by uterine synechia in 35(12.9%). Seventeen (6.3%) had bilateral tubal block and 5 (1.8%) had bicornuate uterus.Conclusion: HSG is helpful in the investigation of infertile women

    Electron Correlation and the c-axis Dispersion of Cu d_z^2: a New Band Structure for High Temperature Superconductors

    Previously we showed the major effect of electron correlation in the cuprate superconductors is to lower the energy of the Cu d_x^2-y^2/O p_sigma (x^2-y^2) band with respect to the Cu d_z^2/O' p_z (z^2) band. In our 2D Hubbard model for La_1.85Sr_0.15CuO_4 (LaSCO), the z^2 band is narrow and crosses the standard x^2-y^2 band just below the Fermi level. In this work, we introduce c-axis dispersion to the model and find the z^2 band to have considerable anisotropic 3D character. An additional hole-like surface opens up in the z^2 band at (0,0,2pi/c) which expands with doping. At sufficient doping levels, a symmetry allowed x^2-y^2/z^2 band crossing along the (0,0)-(pi,pi) direction of the Brillouin zone appears at the Fermi level. At this point, Cooper pairs between the two bands (e.g. (k uparrow x^2-y^2/k downarrow z^2)) can form, providing the basis for the Interband Pairing Theory of superconductivity in these materials.Comment: submitted to Phys.     Candidates contesting the elections Takalar in the imaging process, some things that must be understood in the campaign, the analysis of audience (audience) and their needs, goals and objectives, including strategic planning, communicators, channels (media), the message and the receiver, goal setting, implementation planning involved, the amount of funds, resources, and time of the campaign, as well as evaluating.This study aimed to determine (1) the use of communication media in shaping the image of the candidate regent and deputy regent district. Takalar in organizing the election Takalar 2012 and (2) the selection of communication media in the 2012 election Takalar. This type of research is descriptive qualitative exploration or exploration intends to make information on the purpose of research. Documentation and data sources such as interviews and observations associated with this research. The results showed that all candidates utilize existing media for dissemination in the regent and deputy regent election Takalar Takalar in 2012. And the selection of media used by candidates of differences in the production and dissemination of media in the region because of the team\u27s Takalar, party and budget. In the regent and deputy regent, followed 7 (seven) candidates, the pair number 2 (two) Burhanuddin. B pairs with Natsir Ibrahim carried by Golkar party won the most votes and was elected as a Regent and Regent Wakli Takalar the period 2012-2017 in the selection of the round. Unequal use of media for each candidate anggran factors and successful teamwork, and also should be planned as possible in the selection of the media in the election in order to avoid wasteful spending

    The Antiferromagnetic Band Structure of La2CuO4 Revisited

    Using the Becke-3-LYP functional, we have performed band structure calculations on the high temperature superconductor parent compound, La2CuO4. Under the restricted spin formalism (rho(alpha) equal to rho(beta)), the R-B3LYP band structure agrees well with the standard LDA band structure. It is metallic with a single Cu x2-y2/O p(sigma) band crossing the Fermi level. Under the unrestricted spin formalism (rho(alpha) not equal to rho(beta)), the UB3LYP band structure has a spin polarized antiferromagnetic solution with a band gap of 2.0 eV, agreeing well with experiment. This state is 1.0 eV (per formula unit) lower than that calculated from the R-B3LYP. The apparent high energy of the spin restricted state is attributed to an overestimate of on-site Coulomb repulsion which is corrected in the unrestricted spin calculations. The stabilization of the total energy with spin polarization arises primarily from the stabilization of the x2-y2 band, such that the character of the eigenstates at the top of the valence band in the antiferromagnetic state becomes a strong mixture of Cu x2-y2/O p(sigma) and Cu z2/O' p(z). Since the Hohenberg-Kohn theorem requires the spin restricted and spin unrestricted calculations give exactly the same ground state energy and total density for the exact functionals, this large disparity in energy reflects the inadequacy of current functionals for describing the cuprates. This calls into question the use of band structures based on current restricted spin density functionals (including LDA) as a basis for single band theories of superconductivity in these materials.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures, to appear in Phys.     Thermal, physical properties and flammability of silane treated kenaf/ pineapple leaf fibres phenolic hybrid composites

    Silane treated pineapple leaf fibre (PALF) and kenaf fibre were analyzed by Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) that indicated the treated hybrid composite showed better thermal stability as compared to untreated hybrid composites. Dynamic mechanical analysis was carried out to evaluate the storage modulus (E′), loss modulus (E″), and tan delta as a function of temperature. Storage modulus of treated hybrid composites displayed highest storage and loss modulus as in comparison of untreated hybrid composites. The peak heights of tan α were highest in treated hybrid composites. Cole-Cole analysis was also carried out to understand the phase behaviour of the composite samples. Thermal mechanical analysis was used to study mechanical stability of hybrid composites in the presence of temperature. The effect of different fibre ratios in hybridization on density, void content, water absorption (WA), thickness swelling (TS) of PALF/KF hybrid composites were also analyzed. Treated hybrid composites were not very affective to improve the flammability of PALF/KF hybrid composites. The overall results showed that treated PALF/KF/phenolic hybrid composites improved the thermal and dynamic mechanical properties over untreated PALF/KF hybrid composites

    Frontonasal dysplasia (FND) is a very rare congenital abnormality in which the mid face does not develop normally. It affects mainly the head and face. Cause is unknown but may be sporadic or familial. We report a rare case of a full term baby who presented with classical features of FND in Maiduguri, Nigeria.     MoO3 altered ZnO: A suitable choice for the photocatalytic removal of chloro-acetic acids in natural sunlight exposure

    The MoO3 coated ZnO photocatalysts were synthesized for the optimum harvesting of the absorbed ultraviolet sunlight photons by initially permeating Mo6+ ions at the surface of pre-synthesized ZnO and finally transformed to MoO3 by thermal treatment in the air. The absorption spectra of the synthesized powders revealed the extension of the absorption edge in the visible region whereas, the photoluminescence spectroscopy established the supporting role of the MoO3 coating in gradually plummeting the excitons recombination. The growth of additional peaks in Raman as well as X-ray photoelectron spectra and the appearance of the corresponding low-intensity reflection substantiated the surface prevalence of MoO3. The absence of the individual particles of MoO3 in FESEM and the verification of coated layer by HRTEM images validated the authenticity of the adopted synthetic route. The electrochemical evaluation of the synthesized powders under illumination revealed the complete elimination of photocorrosion and the synergic role of the MoO3 layer for improved trap and transfer of charge carriers. The evaluation of the flat-band potentials of the coated powders by Mott-Schottky analysis revealed the suitability of the conduction band edges for the generation of superoxide anion radicals. The photocatalytic activity of the synthesized powders was assessed for the removal of chloro derivatives (mono-, di-, trichloroacetic acids) in comparison to pure acetic acid. A significant effect of the stability, polarity and stereochemical structure of the substrate on the photocatalytic removal process was observed and discussed. The experimental evidences from the time-scale chemical analysis were interpreted for the identification of the reactive oxygen species (ROS) involved in the degradation/mineralization process. The validation of the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetic model was also examined. Efforts were made to estimate the plausible route of the degradation/mineralization process
