    What is health promotion ethics?

    editorialWhat does it mean to think about the ethics of health promotion? When most of us think ‘ethics’ we think of the Human Research Ethics Committee applications required for research projects. But I’m thinking of something quite different here: the ethics of health promotion practice. Health promotion ethics is an attempt to answer questions such as: Can we provide a moral justification for what we are doing in health promotion? or What is the right thing to do in health promotion, and how can we tell? As other authors have argued, sometimes these questions are ignored in health promotion in favour of scientific and technical questions about effectiveness. But there is increasing recognition that health promotion is a moral project, that health promotion can be practised in ways that are more or less ethical, and thus that considering ethics in health promotion is just as important as – and related to – considering the evidence about whether or not health promotion works. 1-5 The number of publications about health promotion ethics has been slowly increasing since the 1980s, including in this journal, where authors have particularly argued the importance of being explicit about values in health promotion. If something has value, it has worth or importance. 6 Authors in the HPJA have suggested that health promotion practitioners value: health and wellbeing as opposed to the mere absence of disease, justice, environmental sustainability, empowerment, respect for culture, and truth telling. 3, 7, 8 But concern has been expressed that although these things are valued in health promotion, this may not always influence the way that health promotion is implemented and evaluated.NHMR

    Using Lightweight Activity Diagrams for Modeling and Generation of Web Information Systems

    The development process of web information systems nowadays improved a lot regarding effectiveness and tool support, but still contains many redundant steps for similar tasks. In order to overcome this, we use a model-driven approach to specify a web information system in an agile way and generate a full- edged and runnable application from a set of models. The covered aspects of the system comprise data structure, page structure including view on data, page- and workflow within the system as well as overall application structure and user rights management. Appropriate tooling allows transforming these models to complete systems and thus gives us opportunity for a lightweight development process based on models. In this paper, we describe how we approach the page- and workflow aspect by using activity diagrams as part of the agile modeling approach MontiWIS. We give an overview of the defined syntax, describe the supported forms of action contents and finally explain how the behavior is realized in the generated application.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figure

    Towards the systematic construction of domain-specific transformation languages

However, as MDE moves to more complex scenarios, there is the need for specialized transformation languages for activities like model merging, migration or aspect weaving, or for specific domains of wide use like UML. Such domain-specific transformation languages (DSTLs) encapsulate transformation knowledge within a language, enabling the reuse of recurrent solutions to transformation problems. Nowadays, many DSTLs are built in an ad-hoc manner, which requires a high development cost to achieve a full-featured implementation. Alternatively, they are realised by an embedding into general-purpose transformation or programming languages like ATL or Java. In this paper, we propose a framework for the systematic creation of DSTLs. First, we look into the characteristics of domain-specific transformation tools, deriving a categorization which is the basis of our framework. Then, we propose a domain-specific language to describe DSTLs, from which we derive a ready-to-run workbench which includes the abstract syntax, concrete syntax and translational semantics of the DSTL.This work has been funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitivity with project “Go Lite” (TIN2011-24139
