Leveraging Contextual Cues for Generating Basketball Highlights

The massive growth of sports videos has resulted in a need for automatic generation of sports highlights that are comparable in quality to the hand-edited highlights produced by broadcasters such as ESPN. Unlike previous works that mostly use audio-visual cues derived from the video, we propose an approach that additionally leverages contextual cues derived from the environment that the game is being played in. The contextual cues provide information about the excitement levels in the game, which can be ranked and selected to automatically produce high-quality basketball highlights. We introduce a new dataset of 25 NCAA games along with their play-by-play stats and the ground-truth excitement data for each basket. We explore the informativeness of five different cues derived from the video and from the environment through user studies. Our experiments show that for our study participants, the highlights produced by our system are comparable to the ones produced by ESPN for the same games.Comment: Proceedings of ACM Multimedia 201

Left-Right Asymmetry of Weak Interaction Mass of Polarized Fermions in Flight

The left-right polarization-dependent asymmetry of the weak interaction mass is investigated. Based on the Standard Model, the calculation shows that the weak interaction mass of left-handed polarized fermions is always greater than that of right-handed polarized fermions in flight with the same velocity in any inertial frame. The asymmetry of the weak interaction mass might be very important to the investigation of neutrino mass and would have an important significance for understanding the parity nonconservation in weak interactions.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, corrected calculatio

    Heavy Pentaquarks

We construct the spin-flavor wave functions of the possible heavy pentaquarks containing an anti-charm or anti-bottom quark using various clustered quark models. Then we estimate the masses and magnetic moments of the JP=12+J^P={1\over 2}^+ or 32+{3\over 2}^+ heavy pentaquarks. We emphasize the difference in the predictions of these models. Future experimental searches at BESIII, CLEOc, BELLE, and LEP may find these interesting states

Influence of different fruit loads on the starch accumulation in the pistils of Chinese Chestnut cv. ‘Zaodali’

The experimental samples were collected from Chinese chestnut trees (Castanea mollissima Blume) of two different fruit loads, i.e., “high fruit load” and “low fruit load”. No starch accumulation in the needle-shaped stigmas of all female flowers was observed while rapid starch accumulation took place in the transmitting tissues of the style just before the formation of complete ovules. In the cells of the ovary wall and the ovule, starch accumulation was obvious and reached the peak as the embryo sac was fully mature. Starch grains of ovule were mainly stored in the inner and outer integuments. Fruit loads of chestnut trees greatly affected level of starch accumulation in each part of the pistil. The starch accumulation in the ovary wall and the ovule of trees of “high fruit load” apparently surpassed that of trees of “low fruit load”. The starch content in the outer integument could be of 17.50% for trees of “high fruit load” compared to a low percentage of 2.92% for trees of “low fruit load” in same time

    Magnetic Moments of JP=3/2+J^P={3/2}^+ Pentaquarks

If the JPJ^P of Θ5+\Theta_5^+ and Ξ5−−\Xi_5^{--} pentaquarks is really found to be 12+{1\over 2}^+ by future experiments, they will be accompanied by JP=32+J^P={3\over 2}^+ partners in some models. It is reasonable to expect that these JP=32+J^P={3\over 2}^+ states will also be discovered in the near future with the current intensive experimental and theoretical efforts. We estimate JP=3/2+J^P={3/2}^+ pentaquark magnetic moments using different models.Comment: 13 page

CBProf: Customisable Blockchain-as-a-Service Performance Profiler in Cloud Environments

    Get PDF
Blockchain technologies, e.g., Hyperledger Fabric and Sawtooth, have been evolving rapidly during past years and enable potential decentralised innovations in a substantial amount of business applications, e.g. crowd journalism, car-sharing and energy trading. The development of decentralised business applications has to face challenges in selecting suitable blockchain technologies, customising network protocols among distributed peers, and optimising system performance to meet application requirements. Also, manually testing and comparing those different technologies are time-consuming. Therefore, an effective tool is needed for profiling the performance characteristics of blockchain services in different cloud environments. In this paper, we present the Customisable Blockchain-as-a-Service Performance Profiler (CBProf), a tool we developed for automating blockchain deployment and performance profiling in cloud environments. We also provide the implementation and functionality demonstration of this tool
