    The exclusive Bπ+B\to \pi \ell^+ \ell^- and Bρ+B\to \rho \ell^+ \ell^- decays in the general two Higgs doublet model

    We study the differential branching ratio, branching ratio and the forward-backward asymmetry for the exclusive Bπ+B \to \pi \ell^+ \ell^- and Bρ+B \to \rho \ell^+ \ell^- decays in the general two Higgs doublet model including the neutral Higgs boson effects. We analyze the dependencies of these quantities on the neutral Higgs boson contributions and the other model parameters. We observe that two Higgs doublet model with the neutral Higgs boson exchanges gives quite sizable contributions to these observables for both channels we consider. Since the neutral Higgs boson exchanges are the only source of the forward-backward asymmetry for Bπτ+τB \to \pi \tau^+ \tau^- decay, which is at the order of magnitude 1101-10%, measurement of this observable is promising to determine the neutral Higgs boson effects.Comment: 27 pages, 18 eps figures, requires JHEP3.cls (included), replaced with the version to appear in JHE

    Lepton polarization correlations in BKττ+B \to K^* \tau^- \tau^+

    In this work we will study the polarizations of both leptons (τ\tau) in the decay channel BKττ+B\to K^* \tau^- \tau^+. In the case of the dileptonic inclusive decay BK+B\to K^* \ell^- \ell^+, where apart from the polarization asymmetries of single lepton \ell, one can also observe the polarization asymmetries of both leptons simultaneously. If this sort of measurement is possible then we can have, apart from decay rate, FB asymmetry and the six single lepton polarization asymmetries (three each for \ell^- and +\ell^+), nine more double polarization asymmetries. This will give us a very useful tool in more strict testing of SM and the physics beyond.     Lepton polarization asymmetry in radiative dileptonic B-meson decays in MSSM

    In this paper we study the polarization asymmetries of the final state lepton in the radiative dileptonic decay of B meson (\bsllg) in the framework of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and various other unified models within the framework of MSSM e.g. mSUGRA, SUGRA (where condition of universality of scalar masses is relaxed) etc. Lepton polarization, in addition of having a longitudinal component (\pl), can have two other components, \pt and \pn, lying in and perpendicular to the decay plane, which are proportional to \ml and hence are significant for final state being μ+ μ\mu^+ ~ \mu^- or τ+τ˜\tau^+ \~\tau^-.     Leptonic and semi-leptonic rare decays of B-mesons are very clean (both theoretically and experimentally) signatures of any new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). More specifically the decay \btokll has been theoretically observed to be very sensitive to new physics as the Forward Backward (FB) asymmetry in this decay mode vanishes in the SM. Supersymmetry, however, predicts a non-vanishing value of this asymmetry. In this work we will study the polarized lepton pair FB asymmetry, i.e. the FB asymmetry of the lepton when one (or both) final state lepton(s) are polarized.     The relatively clean theoretical probes of the Standard Model (SM), and the various theories beyond the SM, provided by radiative, semi-leptonic and (purely) leptonic decays of B-mesons have become increasingly important. Due to the large number of possible distributions in the semi-leptonic decays based on the quark level transition bs+b \to s \ell^+ \ell^- (not just the branching ratio), these transitions have become very useful.     We presented a case that had self-amputated his penis partly, performed bilateral selforchiectomy and then committed suicide. The case was a-80-year-old male with a urinary catheter for the last year for an urologic problem, who was using alprazolam for a psychiatric disorder. He had history of attempted suicide, one year ago. The victim was found by his wife hanged to the balcony railing. Distal 1/2 part of his penis was amputated and the penis amputate was found beside the body, as well as both of his testicles. In the autopsy examination, macroscopic examination of the amputated items revealed penile ecchymosis around the cut side of the skin and benign prostate hypertrophy and chronic prostatitis was diagnosed with microscopic examination of the prostate gland. The paper discussed the characteristics of the victim and the manner of the presented case; a genital self-amputation case followed by suicide or a failed suicide case completed by hanging method (a complex suicide case). © 2012 by Türkiye Klinikleri

    Accidental hanging deaths in children in Konya, Turkey between 1998 and 2007

    PubMedID: 20202070In general, hanging cases are the result of suicide, and accidental and homicidal hanging cases are rarely seen. This study retrospectively investigated 4571 death examinations and autopsies that were performed at The Konya Branch of the Forensic Medicine Council (Turkey) between 1998 and 2007; hanging was involved in 201 (6.5%) of the cases. There were a total of 13 accidental hanging cases, where 12 of these involved children. In seven of the cases, the accidental hanging involved a scarf that wraps around swing-like cradles and is intended to prevent infants from falling down. It was concluded that accidental hanging deaths can be reduced by replacing swing-like cradles with cribs that are designed for children, removing ropes in and around the house, and preventing children from reaching and/or playing with rope-like objects. © 2010 American Academy of Forensic Sciences

    Sudden death due to a colloid cyst of the third ventricle: Report of three cases with a special sign at autopsy

    PubMedID: 19446972Colloid cysts of the third ventricle are rare benign cysts but they may be potentially life-threatening. Three cases of sudden death resulting from colloid cysts of the third ventricle are presented. The first and second cases were treated for migraine headaches. In the first case, the patient was a 24-year-old woman who presented to the hospital with a severe headache and was sent back home after medical treatment. Six hours later, she was found dead in her bed. The second case was a 21-year-old woman who experienced a severe headache, dizziness and vomiting 1 day prior to her death. She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. The third case was a 25-year-old man who experienced headaches and vomiting and was diagnosed with and medically treated for sinusitis. He lost consciousness and was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. During the autopsy of all three cases, there was a grey transillumination area observed that occurred due to the stretching of tissue at the base of brain between the corpus mamillare and chiasma opticum. Dissection of the brain revealed a colloid cyst of the third ventricle. To avoid such fatal complications, prompt diagnosis using CT or MRI is essential in patients who have a long-standing history of intermittent headaches. During the autopsy of the sudden deaths of people with medical antecedents of headaches, if a grey color is observed between the chiasma opticum and the corpus mamillare in the base of the brain, a colloid cyst should be considered and this region should be dissected and examined carefully. © 2009 Elsevier Ireland Ltd.     Impacts of climate change on spatial drought distribution in the Mediterranean Basin (Turkey): different climate models and downscaling methods

    The impacts of climate change increasingly show themselves in many forms in our everyday lives such as heatwaves and droughts. Drought is one of the critical events today for increasing drought frequency. This study focuses on meteorological drought because it directly affects other drought types. Hence, this study focuses on how the future drought conditions will vary under climate change effects in the Mediterranean basin (Turkey). In doing so, this study utilizes precipitation data from three General Circulation Models (GCMs) and three Regional Circulation Models (RCMs). The GCMs are CNRM-CM6, GFDL-CM4, and MPI-ESM1, while the RCMs are (RCA4)-CNRM-CM5, (Reg CM4)-GFDL-ESM2M, and (RCA4)-MPI-ESM-MR. Mitigating biases of the climate models, this study utilizes four statistical downscaling methods (SD), linear scaling (LS), local intensity scaling (LOCI), power transformation (PT), and distribution mapping (DM). Here, the study has two purposes. The main aim of the paper here is to compare the performance of SD methods in improving the representation of observed climate variables in climate models. In addition, the study shows how different methods will affect the spatial drought distribution in the area under the SSP2 4.5 and SSP5 8.5 scenarios. Consequently, the study uses the standardized precipitation index (SPI) and Z-score index (ZSI) to quantify future drought conditions and reaches the following results. The study reveals that mild drought conditions are prevalent in the basin for future periods, and drought indices go down to − 0.55. The study also shows that different SD methods affect the results obtained by each climate model diversely. For example, while the LS method causes the most drought conditions on the results based on CNRM-CM5 and CNRM-CM6, the DM method has a similar impact on outcomes based on GFDL-CM4 and GFDL-ESM2M and causes the most drought conditions
