Inter-molekuláris kölcsönhatások elméleti vizsgálata nanoszerkezetekben = Theoretical investigation of inter-molecular interactions in nanostructures
Megvizsgáltuk a fullerén pinch módusát elektrokémiai környezetbe helyezett fullerén-nanocső borsókban. Megvizsgáltuk a kétfalú szén nanocsövekből felépíthető úgynevezett kvantum pumpákat. Kiszámoltuk, hogy a 4d és 5d átmeneti fémek a nagy lefedettségi határesetben mekkora kötési energiával kötődnek grafénre. Megmutattuk, hogy királis szén nanocsövek jobbos és balos változatainak összekapcsolódása stabil, bambusz-bütyökre emlékeztető hibahelyeket eredményez a nanocsőben, mely hibák jelenléte az elektrontranszport mérésével kimutatható. | We studied the inter-shell interaction in double-walled carbon nanotubes and calculated the resulting charge transfer; similarly, we looked at the interaction between ferrocene and the host nanotube in ferrocene-filled carbon nanotubes. We developed a method which efficiently calculates the full phonon dispersions of single-walled carbon nanotubes on the first principles level by exploiting the helical symmetry of the nanotubes. We have shown that the presence of cubane in fullerene-cubane cocrystals leads to an increased lattice constant and thereby to an increased band gap as well as increased density of states in the valence and conduction bands. We performed extensive calculations on the electronic density of states of single-walled carbon nanotubes. We calculated the surface relaxation and surface stress of the close-packed surfaces of 4d and 5d transition metals. We wrote a review book chapter summarizing recent advances in first principles level studies of the phonons of carbon nanotubes. We examined the pinch mode of fullerenes in fullerene-nanotube peapods in an electrochemical environment. We examined the so-called quantum pumps based on double-walled carbon nanotubes. We calculated the binding energies of 4d and 5d transition metals to graphene in the limit of high coverage. We showed that left- and right-handed versions of chiral carbon nanotubes can connect by forming a bamboo-like lattice defect which can be detected through electronic transport measurements
Auger recombination of dark excitons in and monolayers
We propose a novel phonon assisted Auger process unique to the electronic
band structure of monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), which
dominates the radiative recombination of ground state excitons in Tungsten
based TMDCs. Using experimental and DFT computed values for the exciton
energies, spin-orbit splittings, optical matrix element, and the Auger matrix
elements, we find that the Auger process begins to dominate at carrier
densities as low as , thus providing a plausible
explanation for the low quantum efficiencies reported for these materials.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Electronic properties of linear carbon chains: resolving the controversy
Literature values for the energy gap of long one-dimensional carbon chains
vary from as little as 0.2 eV to more than 4 eV. To resolve this discrepancy,
we use the GW many-body approach to calculate the band gap of an infinite
carbon chain. We also compute the energy dependence of the attenuation
coefficient governing the decay with chain length of the electrical
conductance of long chains and compare this with recent experimental
measurements of the single-molecule conductance of end-capped carbon chains.
For long chains, we find eV and an upper bound for of
\AA.Comment: Accepted for publication in Journal of Chemical Physic
Hybrid -tight-binding model for intersubband optics in atomically thin InSe films
We propose atomic films of n-doped -InSe as a platform for
intersubband optics in the infrared (IR) and far infrared (FIR) range, coupled
to out-of-plane polarized light. Depending on the film thickness (number of
layers) of the InSe film these transitions span from eV for bilayer
to eV for 15-layer InSe. We use a hybrid theory and tight-binding model, fully parametrized using density
functional theory, to predict their oscillator strengths and thermal linewidths
at room temperature

Tunable Berry curvature, valley and spin Hall effect in Bilayer MoS
The chirality of electronic Bloch bands is responsible for many intriguing
properties of layered two-dimensional materials. We show that in bilayers of
transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), unlike in few-layer graphene and
monolayer TMDCs, both intra-layer and inter-layer couplings give important
contributions to the Berry-curvature in the and valleys of the
Brillouin zone. The inter-layer contribution leads to the stacking dependence
of the Berry curvature and we point out the differences between the commonly
available 3R type and 2H type bilayers. Due to the inter-layer contribution the
Berry curvature becomes highly tunable in double gated devices. We study the
dependence of the valley Hall and spin Hall effects on the stacking type and
external electric field. Although the valley and spin Hall conductivities are
not quantized, in MoS 2H bilayers they may change sign as a function of the
external electric field which is reminiscent of the behaviour of lattice Chern
insulators.Comment: 19 pages, 6 figure
Breaking of valley degeneracy by magnetic field in monolayer MoSe2
Using polarization-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy, we investigate
valley degeneracy breaking by out-of-plane magnetic field in back-gated
monolayer MoSe devices. We observe a linear splitting of between luminescence peak energies in
and emission for both neutral and charged excitons. The optical
selection rules of monolayer MoSe couple photon handedness to the exciton
valley degree of freedom, so this splitting demonstrates valley degeneracy
breaking. In addition, we find that the luminescence handedness can be
controlled with magnetic field, to a degree that depends on the back-gate
voltage. An applied magnetic field therefore provides effective strategies for
control over the valley degree of freedom.Comment: expanded discussion section, corrected typo in eq.
Crossover from weakly indirect to direct excitons in atomically thin films of InSe
We perform a theory analysis of the spectra of the
lowest energy and excited states of the excitons in few-layer atomically thin
films of InSe taking into account in-plane electric polarizability of the film
and the influence of the encapsulation environment. For the thinner films, the
lowest-energy state of the exciton is weakly indirect in momentum space, with
its dispersion showing minima at a layer-number-dependent wave number, due to
an inverted edge of a relatively flat topmost valence band branch of the InSe
film spectrum and we compute the activation energy from the momentum dark
exciton ground state into the bright state. For the films with more than seven
InSe layers, the exciton dispersion minimum shifts to -point.Comment: 12 pages, 7 figure
