Wave induced oscillatory and steady flows in the annulus of a catheterized viscoelastic tube
A perturbation analysis based on equations of motion in Lagrangian form is presented for the oscillatory and time-mean viscous flows induced by a propagating wave of small amplitude in an annulus with a viscoelastic outer wall. Owing to the steady streaming effect, the existence of a catheter in a blood vessel brings in an additional steady pressure gradient, a correction to that predicted by the linear theory, and an additional steady shear stress, which may increase the possibility of hemolysis of red blood cells. © 2010 Publishing House for Journal of Hydrodynamics.postprin
Sub-6GHz 4G/5G Conformal Glasses Antennas
© 2013 IEEE. The difficulty of antenna design applied to glasses is that the structure of glasses is too single, and the space available for antenna design is greatly limited. In this background, the integrated design of 4G antennas and 5G antennas applied to glasses is proposed in this paper. The most important highlight of this design is that it makes full use of the limited three-dimensional space structure provided by glasses and achieves the perfect combination of the antenna and glasses in the physical structure. Specifically, two antennas for 4G communication are arranged on two glasses frames, and four antennas for 5G communication are arranged on two glasses legs. In this way, we can make full use of the space provided by the glasses to design antennas and ensure that there is a certain distance between the 4G antennas and 5G antennas so that the performance of both 4G antennas and 5G antennas can be guaranteed. The 4G antenna consists of a loop structure printed on the frame and leg of the glasses and a parasitic branch strip printed on the front of the leg of the glasses. The resonance modes of the 4G antenna are mainly loop, monopole, and dipole modes, which can cover two 4G bands of 0.824-0.96 GHz and 1.71-2.69 GHz. Each 5G antenna mainly comes from the open slot mode etched on the metal ground surface of an FR4 substrate of the glasses leg. In addition, the slot antennas operate in two 5G bands of 3.3-3.6 GHz and 4.8-5.0 GHz. Finally, the glasses and the antennas are fabricated based on FR4 substrates and measured. The measured results show that the proposed antennas perform well and have the potential to be used in 4G/5G communications through glasses
Rock-salt SnS and SnSe: Native Topological Crystalline Insulators
Unlike time-reversal topological insulators, surface metallic states with
Dirac cone dispersion in the recently discovered topological crystalline
insulators (TCIs) are protected by crystal symmetry. To date, TCI behaviors
have been observed in SnTe and the related alloys PbSnSe/Te,
which incorporate heavy elements with large spin-orbit coupling (SOC). Here, by
combining first-principles and {\it ab initio} tight-binding calculations, we
report the formation of a TCI in the relatively lighter rock-salt SnS and SnSe.
This TCI is characterized by an even number of Dirac cones at the high-symmetry
(001), (110) and (111) surfaces, which are protected by the reflection symmetry
with respect to the (10) mirror plane. We find that both SnS and SnSe
have an intrinsically inverted band structure and the SOC is necessary only to
open the bulk band gap. The bulk band gap evolution upon volume expansion
reveals a topological transition from an ambient pressure TCI to a
topologically trivial insulator. Our results indicate that the SOC alone is not
sufficient to drive the topological transition.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

The Directed Dominating Set Problem: Generalized Leaf Removal and Belief Propagation
A minimum dominating set for a digraph (directed graph) is a smallest set of
vertices such that each vertex either belongs to this set or has at least one
parent vertex in this set. We solve this hard combinatorial optimization
problem approximately by a local algorithm of generalized leaf removal and by a
message-passing algorithm of belief propagation. These algorithms can construct
near-optimal dominating sets or even exact minimum dominating sets for random
digraphs and also for real-world digraph instances. We further develop a core
percolation theory and a replica-symmetric spin glass theory for this problem.
Our algorithmic and theoretical results may facilitate applications of
dominating sets to various network problems involving directed interactions.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures in EPS forma
Second-harmonic generation of ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by laser ablation of solids in liquids
We report the synthesis of small zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) based colloidal suspensions and the study of second-harmonic generation from aggregated ZnO NPs deposited on glass substrates. The colloidal suspensions were obtained using the laser ablation of solids in liquids technique, ablating a Zn solid target immersed in acetone as the liquid medium, with ns-laser pulses (1064 nm) of a Nd-YAG laser. The per pulse laser fluence, the laser repetition rate frequency and the ablation time were kept constant. The absorption evolution of the obtained suspensions was optically characterized through absorption spectroscopy until stabilization. Raman spectroscopy, SEM and HRTEM were used to provide evidence of the ZnO NPs structure. HRTEM results showed that 5–8 nm spheroids ZnO NPs were obtained. Strong second-harmonic signal is obtained from random ZnO monocrystalline NPs and from aggregated ZnO NPs, suggesting that the high efficiency of the nonlinear process may not depend on the NPs size or aggregation state
Selective interaction of Hpn-like protein with nickel, zinc and bismuth in vitro and in cells by FRET
Hpn-like (Hpnl) is a unique histidine- and glutamine-rich protein found only in Helicobacter pylori and plays a role on nickel homeostasis.Weconstructed the fluorescent sensor proteins CYHpnl and CYHpnl_1-48 (C-terminal glutamine-rich region truncated) using enhanced cyan and yellow fluorescent proteins (eCFP and eYFP) as the donor–acceptor pair to monitor the interactions of Hpnl with metal ions and to elucidate the role of conserved Glu-rich sequence in Hpnl by fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). CYHpnl and CYHpnl_1-48 exhibited largest responses towards Ni(II) and Zn(II) over other metals studied and the binding of Bi(III) to CYHpnl was observed in the presence of an excess amount of Bi(III) ions (Kd =115±4.8 μM). Moreover, both CYHpnl and CYHpnl_1-48 showed positive FRET responses towards the binding to Ni(II) and Zn(II) in Escherichia coli cells overexpressing CYHpnl and CYHpnl_1-48, whereas a decrease in FRET upon Bi(III)-binding in E. coli cells overexpressing the latter. Our study provides clear evidence on Hpnl binding to nickel in cells, and intracellular interaction of Hpnl with Bi(III) could disrupt the protein function, thus probably contributing to the efficacy of Bi(III) drugs against H. pylori.postprin
High-Performance Light Field Reconstruction with Channel-wise and SAI-wise Attention
© Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019. Light field (LF) images provide rich information and are suitable for high-level computer vision applications. To acquire capabilities of modeling the correlated information of LF, most of the previous methods have to stack several convolutional layers to improve the feature representation and result in heavy computation and large model sizes. In this paper, we propose channel-wise and SAI-wise attention modules to enhance the feature representation at a low cost. The channel-wise attention module helps to focus on important channels while the SAI-wise attention module guides the network to pay more attention to informative SAIs. The experimental results demonstrate that the baseline network can achieve better performance with the aid of the attention modules
Human dietary and internal exposure to zearalenone based on a 24-hour duplicate diet and following morning urine study
Zearalenone is a widespread mycotoxin with high estrogenic activity. This study aimed to characterize the exposure of ZEN in a Chinese population during harvest season in 2016. Exposure to ZEN was measured using both duplicate diet method and human biomonitoring approaches. Duplicate diet samples from 199 individuals (4–80 years old) and their following morning urine samples were collected and analyzed using LC-MS/MS methods sensitive for ZEN, ZAN, α/β-ZEL and α/β-ZAL. ZEN was detected in 59.8% of the food samples at a mean level of 1.21 ± 2.15 μg/kg. The estimated daily intake (EDI) of ZEN was calculated from food contamination and consumption data at a mean level of 25.6 ± 38.6 ng/kg bw/day, representing 10.2% of the tolerable daily intake (TDI) set by EFSA and 5.1% of the provisional maximum tolerable daily intake (PMTDI) set by JECFA, respectively. Wheat appears to be the main diet source of ZEN exposure, contributing over 80% of the mean EDI. Children had the highest EDI at 37.5 ± 56.3 ng/kg bw/day (p < 0.05). Urine samples were analyzed both before and after enzymatic hydrolysis to determine the free and total amounts of ZEN biomarkers. The majority of ZEN was excreted as conjugates with the mean fZEN/tBM ratio of 25.4%. Adolescents had the highest excretion of ZEN biomarkers among all age groups (p < 0.05). Probable daily intake (PDI) was calculated from ZEN biomarkers and an excretion rate of 36.8%, giving a mean value of 41.6 ± 65.5 ng/kg bw/day. Significant correlation between internal and external exposure measurement was evidenced in this study (r = 0.344, p < 0.01). Although the mean PDI was approximately 1.6 times the mean EDI, these two approaches resulted in similar calculated degrees of ZEN exposure, both markedly below the health-based guidance value. This study is the first to compare ZEN exposure in a same population based on both diet study and human biomonitoring approaches. Significant differences of PDI/EDI ratios were found in different age groups (p < 0.05), possibly indicative of diversified excretion capabilities and metabolism patterns within the population
The Role of Arabidopsis ABCG9 and ABCG31 ATP Binding Cassette Transporters in Pollen Fitness and the Deposition of Steryl Glycosides on the Pollen Coat
The pollen coat protects pollen grains from harmful environmental stresses such as drought and cold. Many compounds in the pollen coat are synthesized in the tapetum. However, the pathway by which they are transferred to the pollen surface remains obscure. We found that two Arabidopsis thaliana ATP binding cassette transporters, ABCG9 and ABCG31, were highly expressed in the tapetum and are involved in pollen coat deposition. Upon exposure to dry air, many abcg9 abcg31 pollen grains shriveled up and collapsed, and this phenotype was restored by complementation with ABCG9(pro):GFP:ABCG9. GFP-tagged ABCG9 or ABCG31 localized to the plasma membrane. Electron microscopy revealed that the mutant pollen coat resembled the immature coat of the wild type, which contained many electron-lucent structures. Steryl glycosides were reduced to about half of wild-type levels in the abcg9 abcg31 pollen, but no differences in free sterols or steryl esters were observed. A mutant deficient in steryl glycoside biosynthesis, ugt80A2 ugt80B1, exhibited a similar phenotype. Together, these results indicate that steryl glycosides are critical for pollen fitness, by supporting pollen coat maturation, and that ABCG9 and ABCG31 contribute to the accumulation of this sterol on the surface of pollen.X1133Ysciescopu
