Background: Pregnancy preparation is still not the focus of attention for pregnant women. Good pregnancy preparation is supported by three factors, namely social demographics, pregnancy characteristics, and a history of depression. This study aims to analyze pregnancy preparation and its determinant factors in pregnant women in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. Methods: This research is quantitative correlational analytic research with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was all pregnant women at health centers in Medan City, North Sumatra. The sampling technique used simple random sampling, with a total of 375 pregnant women. The data were analyzed through the Chi-Square test. Results: There was a significant relationship between age ( p = 0.005), education (p = 0.001), economic status (p = 0.012), pregnancy status  (p = 0.000), and history of depression (p = 0.002) with preparation for pregnancy in pregnant women.  Conclusion: The existence of socio-demographic relationships, pregnancy characteristics, and a history of depression with pregnancy preparation in pregnant women provide an overview for health workers to assist in pregnancy preparation during preconception

ABSTRACT Cervical cancer is known as the highest cause of death after breast cancer. It is gynecological cancer contributing to the top cause of death in women. Sexual and reproductive issues can reduce the quality of life of women with cervical cancer. WHO defines the quality of life as an individual's perception in the cultural context and value system in which the individual experiences and is related to their goals, expectations, standards, and affairs. It gives the concept of an individual's physical health, psychological conditions, one's beliefs, social relationships, and one's involvement with something meaningful in their environment. This article will explain the definition, symptoms, and staging of cervical cancer, the definition of the quality of life, the meaning of excellence for the cervical cancer patient, and the facts that affect the quality of life.  Keywords           : quality of life, cervical cancer, reproductive organ cancerCorrespondence  : [email protected]

Adherence has an important role in therapy management in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This research is to identify and analyze factors related to medication adherence. The design used in this study was a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population is type 2 Diabetes Mellitus sufferers of Prolanis Group in Primary Health Care Facilities in the Ponorogo Regency. A sample of 180 respondents was taken by purposive sampling technique. Variable X includes age, gender, education, occupation, income, and length of suffering. Variable Y was medication compliance with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Data collection used a Morisky Medication Adherence (MMAS-8) questionnaire and was analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significant level of α <0.05. From the results of the study, it was found that the factors of age, sex, education, employment, income and duration of suffering had a significant relationship with medication adherence for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is expected that health services develop family and community-based service management. Researchers are further advised to develop programs to improve medication adherence

Cognitive and histopathological effects of olive leaf extract in colchicine-induced hippocampal neurodegeneration in rats

Introduction: Olive leaf extract (OLE) has robust anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. A toxic dose of colchicine (COL) injected into the hippocampus disrupts the microtubules’ neuronal structure causing it to be unstable and depolymerized. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the protective effects of OLE treatment on the CA1 hippocampal pyramidal cells of rats that are injected with intracranial COL. Methods: Eighteen rats were divided into control, COL-injected, and OLE-treated-colchicine-injected (COL+OLE) groups (n=6). A vehicle solution was injected into the hippocampi of the control rats, whereas 15 µg/5 µL of COL was injected into the hippocampi of COL and COL+OLE groups. Forced oral treatment with 100 mg/kg OLE was commenced a week later and continued for 15 days. Short-term memory (STM) test using the Morris water maze (MWM) was performed followed by the retention probe memory test. Hippocampal samples from animals of all groups were collected for histopathological examination and qualitative assessment of the viable pyramidal cells at the CA1 hippocampal region. Results: The control and COL+OLE groups demonstrated significantly better performance (P<0.05) in the STM test and its subsequent retention probe memory test as compared to the COL group. The morphology of the pyramidal cells of the COL+OLE treated rats was preserved, showing less distortion than the COL group. Conclusion: OLE treatment led to a considerable preservation in the STM function of rats challenged with intrahippocampal COL injection. This memory improvement of the OLE might be attributed to its promising neuroprotective potential on hippocampal pyramidal cells
