A new lookup model for multiple flow tables of open flow with implementation and optimization considerations

    Get PDF
This is the author accepted manuscript. The final version is available from IEEE via the DOI in this record.Open Flow has become the key standard for the southbound interface of software defined networking. The single flow table of Open Flow implementation can lead to fast storage space growth, and finally cause table-overflow, the multiple flow tables can address this problem and provide greater efficiency and flexibility. Through analyzing the potential deployment challenges of Open Flow, this paper proposes a new lookup model with implementation and optimization considerations for multiple flow tables in an Open Flow switch. With the developed lookup model, the original single flow table is split into multiple sub-flow tables, and the fields in each sub-flow table are further divided into several categories according to different field types. Preliminary simulation results demonstrate that the proposed solution can effectively reduce the storage space of flow tables

Understanding Avatar Sentiments Using Verbal and Non-Verbal Cues

    Get PDF
With the increased popularity of virtual worlds, hundreds of thousands of people from different physical locations can join virtual worlds. In this computer-based simulated 3D environment, avatars can both interact with each other and the environment. This new type of world has important implications for business, education, and society at large. In order to fully use the benefits of virtual worlds, it is important to know how the residents (i.e., avatars) behave, such as how they express sentiments. This research in progress seeks to study avatar sentiments in virtual worlds to examine whether and how sentiments are conveyed by avatars. Both verbal and non-verbal cues will be utilized in the sentiment analysis. To conduct the study, an advanced data collection method is leveraged to obtain various types of avatar data from a large number of real virtual world residents in Second Life in an effective and efficient way

H-SOFT: a heuristic storage space optimisation algorithm for flow table of OpenFlow

PublishedThis is the peer reviewed version of the article, which has been published in final form at DOI 10.1002/cpe.3206. This article may be used for non-commercial purposes in accordance with Wiley Terms and Conditions for Self-Archiving.OpenFlow has become the key standard and technology for software defined networking, which has been widely adopted in various environments. However, the global deployment of OpenFlow encountered several issues, such as the increasing number of fields and complex structure of flow entries, making the size of flow table in OpenFlow switches explosively grows, which results in hardware implementation difficulty. To this end, this paper presents the modelling on the minimisation for storage space of flow table and proposes a Heuristic Storage space Optimisation algorithm for Flow Table (H-SOFT) to solve this optimisation problem. The H-SOFT algorithm degrades the complex and high-dimensional fields of a flow table into multiple flow tables with simple and low-dimensional fields based on the coexistence and conflict relationships among fields to release the unused storage space due to blank fields. Extensive simulation experiments demonstrate that the H-SOFT algorithm can effectively reduce the storage space of flow table. In particular, with frequent updates on flow entries, the storage space compression rate of flow table is stable and can achieve at ~70%. Moreover, in comparison with the optimal solution, the H-SOFT algorithm can achieve the similar compression rate with much lower execution time.National Natural Science Foundation of ChinaNational Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program)Strategic Priority Research Program of the Chinese Academy of SciencesNational High-Tech R&D Program of China (863 Program

Evaluating sentiment in financial news articles: Working paper series--11-10

    Get PDF
We investigate the pairing of a financial news article prediction system, AZFinText, with sentiment analysis techniques. From our comparisons we found that news articles of a subjective nature were easier to predict in both price direction (59.0% vs 50.4% without sentiment) and through a simple trading engine (3.30% return vs 2.41% without sentiment). Looking into sentiment further, we found that news articles of a negative sentiment were easiest to predict in both price direction (50.9% vs 50.4% without sentiment) and our simple trading engine (3.04% return vs 2.41% without sentiment). Investigating the negative sentiment further, we found that AZFinText was best able to predict price decreases in articles of a positive sentiment (53.5%) and price increases in articles of a negative or neutral sentiment (52.4% and 49.5% respectively)

Valley-polarized quantum anomalous Hall effect in van der Waals heterostructures based on monolayer jacutingaite family materials

We numerically study the general valley polarization and anomalous Hall effect in van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures based on monolayer jacutingaite family materials Pt2_{2}AX3_{3} (A = Hg, Cd, Zn; X = S, Se, Te). We perform a systematic study on the atomic, electronic, and topological properties of vdW heterostructures composed of monolayer Pt2_{2}AX3_{3} and two-dimensional ferromagnetic insulators. We show that four kinds of vdW heterostructures exhibit valley-polarized quantum anomalous Hall phase, i.e., Pt2_{2}HgS3_{3}/NiBr2_{2}, Pt2_{2}HgSe3_{3}/CoBr2_{2}, Pt2_{2}HgSe3_{3}/NiBr2_{2}, and Pt2_{2}ZnS3_{3}/CoBr2_{2}, with a maximum valley splitting of 134.2 meV in Pt2_{2}HgSe3_{3}/NiBr2_{2} and sizable global band gap of 58.8 meV in Pt2_{2}HgS3_{3}/NiBr2_{2}. Our findings demonstrate an ideal platform to implement applications on topological valleytronics

Expressions of CXCL12/CXCR4 in Oral Premalignant and Malignant Lesions

    Get PDF
Objective. The chemokine receptor CXCR4 and its ligand CXCL12 have been suggested to play important roles in the initiation or progression of cancers. The goal of the present study was to investigate alterations of CXCL12/CXCR4 in oral premalignant lesions and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Methods. In 13 normal oral epithelia, 24 dysplastic oral leukoplakia (OLK), and 40 OSCC specimens, expressions of CXCL12 and CXCR4 were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Results. CXCR4 was expressed in 37.5% of OLK and 60% of OSCC. CXCL12 was detected in 50% of OLK and 62.5% of OSCC. In OLK, CXCR4 positive ratio showed no significant difference from normal epithelia, but the CXCL12 positive ratio was significantly higher. Significant relationship between CXCL12 and CXCR4 was found both in OLK and OSCC. Conclusion. Our results indicated that CXCL12/CXCR4 axis may play roles from early steps of oral malignant transformation and contribute to the progress of oral carcinogenesis
