    Near range path navigation using LGMD visual neural networks

    In this paper, we proposed a method for near range path navigation for a mobile robot by using a pair of biologically inspired visual neural network – lobula giant movement detector (LGMD). In the proposed binocular style visual system, each LGMD processes images covering a part of the wide field of view and extracts relevant visual cues as its output. The outputs from the two LGMDs are compared and translated into executable motor commands to control the wheels of the robot in real time. Stronger signal from the LGMD in one side pushes the robot away from this side step by step; therefore, the robot can navigate in a visual environment naturally with the proposed vision system. Our experiments showed that this bio-inspired system worked well in different scenarios

    Yue Fei (1103-1142), el famoso general de la Dinastía Song del Sur que resistió las incursiones de los Jin (Yurchen) hasta que fue asesinado a la edad de 39 años a consecuencia de las intrigas de la corte, ha sido relacionado con un cierto número de escuelas de boxeo. A pesar de que los registros históricos no sustentan dicha relación, existieron razones para apoyar estos mitos, que han pervivido hasta el presente. Este artículo clarifica la conexión entre Yue Fei y las artes marciales a partir de la utilización de fuentes originales chinas, incluyendo el registro biográfico de Yue Fei y una visita al templo de Yue Fei en Hangzhou. Confirma las conocidas habilidades marciales de Yue Fei y explica los factores que subyacen a su reconocimiento como uno de los patriotas chinos más reverenciados y símbolo de las artes marciales

    Diversity gain for DVB-H by using transmitter/receiver cyclic delay diversity

    The objective of this paper is to investigate different diversity techniques for broadcast networks that will minimize the complexity and improve received SNR of broadcast systems. Resultant digital broadcast networks would require fewer transmitter sites and thus be more cost-effective and have less environmental impact. The techniques can be applied to DVB-T, DVB-H and DAB systems that use Orthogonal Frequency Division Multplexing (OFDM). These are key radio broadcast network technologies, which are expected to complement emerging technologies such as WiMAX and future 4G networks for delivery of broadband content. Transmitter and receiver diversity technologies can increase the frequency and time selectivity of the resulting channel transfer function at the receiver. Diversity exploits the statistical nature of fading due to multipath and reduces the likelihood of deep fading by providing a diversity of transmission signals. Multiple signals are transmitted in such a way as to ensure that several signals reach the receiver each with uncorrelated fading. Transmit diversity is more practical than receive diversity due to the difficulty of locating two receive antennas far enough apart in a small mobile device. The schemes examined here comply with existing DVB standards and can be incorporated into existing systems without change.
