Production of the top-pions from the higgsless--top-Higgs model at the LHC
The top-pions() predicted by extra dimensional descriptions
of the topcolor scenario have similar feature with those in four dimensional
topcolor scenario, which have large Yukawa couplings to the third generation
quarks. In the context of the higgsless--top-Higgs(HTH) model, we discuss the
production of these new particles at the CERN Large Hadron Collider(LHC) via
various suitable mechanisms (gluon-gluon fusion, bottom-bottom fusion,
gluon-bottom fusion, and the usual Drell-Yan processes) and estimate their
production rates. We find that, as long as the top-pions are not too heavy,
they can be abundantly produced at the LHC. The possible signatures of these
new particles might be detected at the LHC experiments.Comment: 18pages, 6 figures, discussions and references added, typos correcte
Clinical observation on pathologic myopia CNV treated with intravitreal bevacizumab
AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal bevacizumab(Avastin)for choroidal neovascularization(CNV)in pathologic myopia(PM)by including optical coherence tomography(OCT), fluorescein angiography(FFA)and best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA). METHODS: Totally 42 eyes in 41 patients with PM CNV were divided into 2 groups randomly, experimental group(n=22)were assigned to receive intravitreal bevacizumab injections and take fufangxueshuantong capsule; control group(n=20)just took fufangxueshuantong capsule. Subjects were followed up every month after treatment. The efficacy and safety of two group were compared by ophthalmic evaluations including OCT, FFA, and BCVA. RESULTS: BCVA: BCVA in two groups was improved after 12 months. The mean number of treatments per eye, experimental group was 4.23±2.02 and control group was 1.95±1.90. There was significant difference(P<0.005). OCT: Before and after 12 months central foveal thickness(CFD)for two groups were thin, and the mean value in experimental group was 43.41±40.39μm and in control group was 22.65±20.79μm, there was significant difference(P<0.05); FFA: In experimental group CNV was completely disappeared in 20 eyes(91%), persistent in 2 eyes(9%); the control group CNV was completely disappeared in 12 eyes(60%), persistent in 8 eyes(40%). There was significant difference(P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Intravitreal bevacizumab are safe and effective treatment for most patients of CNV in PM
Silencing of two insulin receptor genes disrupts nymph-adult transition of alate brown citrus aphid
Insulin receptors play key roles in growth, development, and polymorphism in insects. Here, we report two insulin receptor genes (AcInR1 and AcInR2) from the brown citrus aphid, Aphis (Toxoptera) citricidus. Transcriptional analyses showed that AcInR1 increased during the nymph-adult transition in alate aphids, while AcInR2 had the highest expression level in second instar nymphs. AcInR1 is important in aphid development from fourth instar nymphs to adults as verified by dsRNA feeding mediated RNAi. The silencing of AcInR1 or/and AcInR2 produced a variety of phenotypes including adults with normal wings, malformed wings, under-developed wings, and aphids failing to develop beyond the nymphal stages. Silencing of AcInR1 or AcInR2 alone, and co-silencing of both genes, resulted in 73% or 60%, and 87% of aphids with problems in the transition from nymph to normal adult. The co-silencing of AcInR1 and AcInR2 resulted in 62% dead nymphs, but no mortality occurred by silencing of AcInR1 or AcInR2 alone. Phenotypes of adults in the dsInR1 and dsInR2 were similar. The results demonstrate that AcInR1 and AcInR2 are essential for successful nymph-adult transition in alate aphids and show that RNAi methods may be useful for the management of this pest
miR-181a increases FoxO1 acetylation and promotes granulosa cell apoptosis via SIRT1 downregulation.
Oxidative stress impairs follicular development by inducing granulosa cell (GC) apoptosis, which involves enhancement of the transcriptional activity of the pro-apoptotic factor Forkhead box O1 (FoxO1). However, the mechanism by which oxidative stress promotes FoxO1 activity is still unclear. Here, we found that miR-181a was upregulated in hydrogen peroxide (
A Functional Nuclear Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor, Src and Stat3 Heteromeric Complex in Pancreatic Cancer Cells
Evidence is presented for the nuclear presence of a functional heteromeric complex of epidermal growth factor (EGFR), Src and the Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription (Stat)3 proteins in pancreatic cancer cells. Stat3 remains nuclear and associated with Src or EGFR, respectively, upon the siRNA knockdown of EGFR or Src, demonstrating the resistance of the complex to the modulation of EGFR or Src alone. Significantly, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) analyses reveal the nuclear EGFR, Src and Stat3 complex is bound to the c-Myc promoter. The siRNA knockdown of EGFR or Src, or the pharmacological inhibition of Stat3 activity only marginally suppressed c-Myc expression. By contrast, the concurrent modulation of Stat3 and EGFR, or Stat3 and Src, or EGFR and Src strongly suppressed c-Myc expression, demonstrating that the novel nuclear heteromeric complex intricately regulates the c-Myc gene. The prevalence of the transcriptionally functional EGFR, Src, and Stat3 nuclear complex provides an additional and novel mechanism for supporting the pancreatic cancer phenotype and explains in part the insensitivity of pancreatic cancer cells to the inhibition of EGFR, Src or Stat3 alone
Bis{2-[6-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl-κN 3)-2-pyridyl-κN]benzimidazolato-κN}manganese(II)
In the title compound, [Mn(C19H12N5)2], each MnII atom lies on a position of site symmetry 222 and has a distorted octahedral coordination geometry made up from six N atoms of two tridentate 2-[6-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)-2-pyridyl]benzimidazolate ligands. The complex molecules are linked into layers parallel to (001) by N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds, with the H atoms disordered over four symmetry-equivalent non-coordinated N atoms
Controlling and optimization of vehicle based on genetic algorithm method while encountering an emergency collision avoidance
In consideration of the nonlinear tire lateral deviation, a nonlinear two degrees of freedom model is established in Matlab/Simulink, which can be used for emergency avoidance steering. The correctness of the model is verified by real vehicle test. Based on vehicle handling stability evaluation and single neuron self-adaptive Proportional-Integral-Differential control theory, a control algorithm to make vehicle move along the given single route with different speed is proposed. And the result of experiment is good. Next, taking advantage of multi-island genetic algorithm, an optimal control system is achieved to optimize the controlling parameters. The same experiment is carried out again with the optimized system. The results show that the optimized control algorithm is more accurate than the previous one. And it also has good robustness and self-adaption

Epigenetic regulation of CD271, a potential cancer stem cell marker associated with chemoresistance and metastatic capacity.
Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are considered to be the cause of tumor initiation, metastasis and recurrence. Additionally, CSCs are responsible for the failure of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The isolation and identification of CSCs is crucial for facilitating the monitoring, therapy or prevention of cancer. We aimed to identify esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) stem-like cells, the epigenetic mechanism and identify novel biomarkers for targeting ESCC CSCs. Sixty-three paired ESCC tissues and adjacent non-cancerous tissues were included in this study. CD271, which was identified as the CSC marker for melanoma, was assessed using quantitative PCR (qPCR). Using flow cytometry, we isolated CD271+ cells comprising 7.5% of cancer cells from the KYSE70 cell line. Sphere formation and anchorage-independent growth were analyzed in CD271+ and CD271- cancer cells, respectively. qPCR was used to detect stem-related genes and CCK-8 was performed to analyze the sensitivity to chemotherapy in the two groups. Bisulfite genomic sequencing was used to analyze the methylation status. CD271 expression was significantly higher in ESCC tissues than in adjacent non-cancerous tissues. Compared with CD271- cancer cells, CD271+ cancer cells showed a higher ability of sphere and colony formation, a high level expression of stem-related gene, and resistance to chemotherapy. The expression of CD271 was induced by a demethylation agent. In conclusion, CD271+ ESCC cells possess stem-like properties. CD271 can potentially act as a prognostic marker for ESCC, whose expression is regulated epigenetically
UV-visible spectra character of larger diameter of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)
The dependence of the optical properties of spherical gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on particle size and wavelength were analyzed theoretically using Mie theory, where the complex refractive index of gold was corrected for the effect of a reduced mean free path of the conduction electrons in small particles. The simulation results indicated that larger diameter AuNPs have high sensitivity and the resolution compared to the small diameter AuNPs. Two different fabricated methods for synthesis larger diameter AuNPs have been proposed. One is the directly synthesis 50nm AuNPs, the other method is separated to two steps (prepared 13nm AuNPs seeds, then synthesis 50nm AuNPs). Comparing the UV-vis spectra and SEM image of the AuNPs synthesized by these two method, we find that the symmetry of the directly synthesis method is better than the other method. The experiment results show that the synthesis AuNPs are uniform. The major aim of this work is to provide a simple and fast method to synthesis larger diameter AuNPs and research the optical properties of the nanoparticles. © (2009) Trans Tech Publications
