    Primerjalna študija genetske raznovrstnosti talnih bakterij in gliv v različnih sukcesijah vegetacije na krasu v provinci Guizhou, Kitajska

    To study the soil genetic diversity of bacteria and fungi in different vegetation successions (grassland, shrubbery, primary forest and secondary forest) from the karst area, the Polymerase Chain Reaction-Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) technology was applied. The results showed that: (1) the diversity of bacterial communities and the fungal communities in karst area were higher than non karst area in each vegetation succession. Compared with the survey from bacterial (the Shannon index was 2.97 in primary forest, 2.91 in secondary forest, 3.18 in shrubbery, 3.14 in grassland and 2.68 in non karst), fungal diversity between karst areas (the Shannon index was 3.56 in primary forest, 3.78 in secondary forest, 3.73 in shrubbery and 3.70 in grassland) and non karst areas (the Shannon index was 3.08) was more evident, which may be related to the alterations of the composition of plant community and the source of carbon in soil with the vegetation succession of karst ecosystem; (2) The comparation of bacterial diversity index and the richness comprehensively evaluated as follows: shrubbery > grassland > primary forest > nsecondary forest. The diversity index and the richness of fungal communities was as follows: secondary forest > shrubbery > grassland > primary forest. The results suggest that the fungal communities have been greatly changed via vegetation successions, but the diversity index and the richness of the bacterial communities have not been seriously affected. The results provide scientific basis for understanding karst surface ecosystem, which contributes to the future aim of protecting the karst from desertification.Za proučevanje genetske pestrosti talnih bakterij in gliv v različnih sukcesijah vegetacije (travišče, grmičevje, primarni gozd in sekundarni gozd) na krasu je bila uporabljena tehnologija verižne reakcije s polimerazo-denaturirajoča gradientna gelska elektroforeza (PCR-DGGE). Rezultati raziskave so pokazali, da: (1) je bila v vsaki sukcesiji vegetacije pestrost bakterijskih in glivnih združb na kraškem območju višja kot na nekraškem. V primerjavi z bakterijsko raznovrstnostjo (Shannonov indeks je bil 2,97 v primarnem gozdu, 2,91 v sekundarnem gozdu, 3,18 v tleh grmičevja, 3,14 v tleh travišč in 2,68 v nekraškem območju) je bila raznovrstnost gliv med kraškimi območji (Shannonov indeks je bil v primarnem gozdu 3,56, 3,78 v sekundarnem gozdu, 3,73 v tleh grmičevja in 3,70 v tleh travišč) in nekraškimi (Shannonov indeks je bil 3,08) jasneje izražena. To je lahko povezano s spremembami v sestavi rastlinske združbe in vira ogljika v tleh glede na stanje sukcesije v vegetaciji kraškega ekosistema. (2) Primerjava kazalnikov bakterijske raznovrstnosti in abundance je bila celostno ovrednotena in sledi takole: grmičevje > travišče > primarni gozd > sekundarni gozd. Kazalnika raznovrstnosti in abundance glivnih združb kažeta sledeči trend: sekundarni gozd > grmičevje > travišče > primarni gozd. Rezultati izkazujejo, da so se glivne združbe precej spremenile zaradi sukcesije v vegetaciji, vendar pa na drugi strani ni bilo bistvenega vpliva na kazalnika bakterijske raznovrstnosti in abundance. Rezultati med drugim dajejo tudi znanstveno podlago za razumevanje delovanja kraškega površinskega ekosistema, kar ključno prispeva k cilju zaščite krasa pred dezertifikacijo (širjenjem puščav)

    Efficacy and Safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Nonerosive Reflux Disease: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

    Objectives. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) therapy for nonerosive reflux disease (NERD) remains controversial. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of TCM regimens in NERD treatment. Methods. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of TCM treatment for NERD through September 31, 2017, were systematically identified in PubMed, Wanfang Data, CNKI, VIP, CBM, Ovid, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases. Quality assessment was performed by employing the Cochrane Risk of Bias assessment tool. Results. A total of 725 and 719 patients in 14 RCTs were randomly divided into TCM alone and conventional Western medicine groups, respectively. The clinical total effective rate of the TCM group was markedly higher than that of the single proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) or Prokinetics therapy group (RR = 1.19, 95% CI = 1.07–1.31, and P = 0.0008), while it was comparable to that of the combination of PPIs and Prokinetics therapy group (RR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.00–1.29, and P = 0.05). Compared with Western medicine group, the TCM group showed improved symptom relief through a reduced RDQ score (SMD = −0.91; 95% CI = −1.68–−0.15; and P = 0.02). Additionally, TCM clearly decreased the recurrence rate (RR = 0.38, 95% CI = 0.28–0.52, and P < 0.00001). Adverse events, such as constipation, sickness, fever, abdominal distension, and stomach noise, were slight for both the TCM and Western medicine groups and disappeared after the easement of pharmacological intervention; in particular, TCM possessed fewer side effects. Conclusion. Compared with PPIs or Prokinetics therapy alone, TCM single therapy can better improve the clinical total effective rate and symptom relief and decrease the recurrence rate and adverse events in the treatment of NERD. Our results suggest that TCM will be a promising alternative therapy for NERD patients in the future

    Research status, trends, and mechanisms of biochar adsorption for wastewater treatment: a scientometric review

    Abstract In the last decade, biochar application research has emerged as a hot topic in water treatment studies, which made biochar adsorption one of the primary wastewater treatment strategies. This paper presents a global bibliometric analysis of 2673 publications from the Web of Science database, spanning 2011–2022. For a comprehensive understanding of the research status and trends in biochar adsorption for wastewater treatment, the advanced quantitative and visual analysis tools (i.e., CiteSpace and ArcGIS) were employed. The results showed that China emerged as the leading country with the most published articles. The key research area is on the magnetic adsorption of biochar in wastewater. The articles summarized in the review demonstrated unequivocally that biochar can treat a wide range of wastewater even though the adsorption mechanisms of biochar on heavy metals, inorganic salts and organic pollutants in wastewater are not entirely consistent. The review further analyzes the factors affecting the performance of biochar in adsorbing pollutants from wastewater and the improvement measures of biochar functional characteristics, proposing the future research directions focusing on the improvement of the adsorption capacity of biochar products. The information synthesis and discussion would provide valuable insights on the historical, current, and future trends in biochar research, beneficial to solve the practical problems of water pollution and improve the quality of the environment

    Selenium compounds induce ROS in human high-metastatic large cell lung cancer cell line L9981

    Background and objective It has been proved that methylseleninic acid (MSA) is a kind of artificially developed selenium compound, which appeared to be the best candidate for cancer prevention and therapy. Reduced glutathione is not only critical to MSA metabolism, but also is a kind of protective antioxidant which could remove the oxygen free radical promptly and maintain the intracellular redox status stable. The aim of this study is to explore the anticancer effects of ROS induced by MSA and the molecular mechanisms of MSA on induction of ROS. Methods We confirmed that MSA and selenite have the anticancer effect in the human high-metastatic large cell lung cancer cell line L9981 by growth inhibition detection, we detect the ROS induced by MSA and selenite in L9981 by fluorescence microscopy, and use flow cytometry to quantitate the ROS induced by NAC together with selenium compounds. Results ①MSA 2.5 μM and 5.0 μM selenite could inhibit the L9981 growth, Increasing the concentration resulted in a more pronounced effect. ②MSA and selenite could induce ROS in L9981. ③incubated NAC with selenite could significantly inhibit the ROS but increase the ROS treated by NAC with MSA. Conclusions ①MSA and selenite had anti-L9981 effect. ②Oxidative stress reaction may participate in the induction of apoptosis by MSA and selenite in lung cancer cell line L9981

    Three decades of changes in water environment of a large freshwater Lake and its relationship with socio-economic indicators

    Tai Lake (Ch: Taihu) has attracted international attention forcyanobacteria blooms. However, the drivers of cultural eutrophication, especially long-term socio-economic indicators have been little researched. The results of research demonstrate how socioeconomic development affected quality of water and how it has been improved by anthropogenic activities. This study described variability in indicators of water quality in Tai Lakeand investigated thedrivers. Significant relationships existed between concentrations of annual mean total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorous (TP), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD), and population, per capital gross domestic production (CDP) and sewage discharge (p < 0.05). However, mechanisms causing change varied among TN, TP, COD and BOD. Before 2000, the main contributors to increases in concentrations of TN were human population, GDP and volumes of domestic sewage discharges. After 2000, discharges of industrial sewage become the primary contributor. After 1998, the regressions of annual mean TN, TP and COD on per capital GDP, population and domestic sewage discharge were reversed compared to the former period. Since 1999, an apparent inverted U-shaped relationship between environmental pollution and economic development has developed, which indicated that actions taken by governments have markedly improved quality of water in Tai Lake. The statistical relationship between BOD and per capital GDP didn't conform to the Kuznet curve. The Ushaped Kuznet curve may offer hope for the future that with significant environmental investments a high GDP can be reached and maintained without degradation of the environment, especially through appropriate management of industrial sewage discharge.     Chest CT Imaging Features of Indeterminate Pulmonary Nodules and Outcomes in Patients with High-grade Soft Tissue Sarcoma: A Single-center Retrospective Study

    Objective To explore the imaging features, clinical outcome, and prognosis of indeterminate pulmonary nodules (IPN) in patients with high-grade soft tissue sarcoma. Methods A retrospective study of 82 patients with high-grade soft tissue sarcoma who have IPNs. The clinical characteristics, imaging features of IPN, and survival of patients were analyzed with statistical software. Results The IPN size of 82 patients was 6.453±0.864 mm. IPN diameter, shape, density, and nodule discovery interval may be CT imaging features related to malignancy tendency. Age (HR=1.047, 95%CI: 1.007-1.088) and interval between each nodule discovery (HR=3.194, 95%CI: 1.052-9.694) are independent factors that affect the survival of patients with malignant IPN. Conclusion The imaging features of chest CT may provide important guidance for determining the nature and survival prognosis of benign and malignant nodules

    Assessment of radio frequency heating on composition, microstructure, flowability and rehydration characteristics of milk powder

    <div><p>Abstract Radio frequency heating (RFH) provides higher efficiency and more uniform heating zone compared with conventional method. The aim of present work is to evaluate the effect of RFH (at 90 °C for 5 or 10 min) on the changes in composition (protein oxidation and fat distribution), microstructure, flow characteristic and rehydration property of infant milk powder. The results indicate that the concentration of protein dityrosine was slightly enhanced, more free fat appeared on powder surfaces (> 50% increase), and porosity in powder matrix as tested by SEM was increased after RFH treatment. For powder flowability, raw sample had low cohesiveness (specific energy = 4.39 mJ/g), and RFH provided better flowability and decreased compressibility. Moreover, RFH had some negative impacts on wettability and solubility of powder particles with contact angle increase at least 5% and solubility decrease of 2%~4%, indicating worse rehydration abilities. Guggenheim-Anderson-de Boer (GAB) model was applied to fit moisture vapor sorption isotherms, and longer RFH duration leading to higher c values (about 63% increase at 10 min). In addition, the RFH initiated browning reaction as CIE a* values increased from -1.8 to -1.3.</p></div
