Long sandwich modules for photon veto detectors
Long lead-scintillator sandwich modules developed for the BNL experiment
KOPIO are described. The individual 4 m long module consists of 15 layers of 7
mm thick extruded scintillator and 15 layers of 1 mm lead absorber. Readout is
implemented via WLS fibers glued into grooves in a scintillator with 7 mm
spacing and viewed from both ends by the phototubes. Time resolution of 300 ps
for cosmic MIPs was obtained. Light output stability monitored for 2 years
shows no degradation beyond the measurement errors. A 4 m long C-bent sandwich
module was also manufactured and tested.Comment: 14 pages, 13 figures, 1 tabl
Pinning down the kaon form factors in K^+ -> mu^+ nu_mu gamma decay
We find that the normal muon polarization in the decay K->mu nu_mu gamma is
very sensitive to the values of the kaon vector F_V and axial-vector F_A form
factors. It is shown that the ongoing KEK-E246 experiment can definitely
determine the signs of the sum of the form factors if their difference is fixed
from other considerations. This method can also verify the form factor values
and signs obtained from the K^+ -> l^+ nu_l e^+ e^- decays. A new experiment
with sensitivity to the normal and transverse muon polarizations of about 10^-4
will provide a unique possibility to determine the F_V and F_A values with a

Search for T-violation in K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma Decays
The recent progress in search for T-violating transverse muon polarization in
the decays K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma in the on-going
experiment E246 at KEK is reported. Future prospects in polarization

Beam test results of 3D fine-grained scintillator detector prototype for a T2K ND280 neutrino active target
An upgrade of the long baseline neutrino experiment T2K near detector ND280
is currently being developed with the goal to reduce systematic uncertainties
in the prediction of number of events at the far detector Super-Kamiokande. The
upgrade program includes the design and construction of a new highly granular
fully active scintillator detector with 3D WLS fiber readout as a neutrino
target. The detector of about in size and a mass
of 2.2~tons will be assembled from about plastic
scintillator cubes of . Each cube is read out by three
orthogonal Kuraray Y11 Wave Length Shifting (WLS) fibers threaded through the
detector. A detector prototype made of 125 cubes was assembled and tested in a
charged particle test beam at CERN in the fall of 2017. This paper presents the
results obtained on the light yield and timing as well as on the optical

Scintillator counters with WLS fiber/MPPC readout for the side muon range detector (SMRD)of the T2K experiment
The T2K neutrino experiment at J-PARC uses a set of near detectors to measure
the properties of an unoscillated neutrino beam and neutrino interaction
cross-sections. One of the sub-detectors of the near-detector complex, the side
muon range detector (SMRD), is described in the paper. The detector is designed
to help measure the neutrino energy spectrum, to identify background and to
calibrate the other detectors. The active elements of the SMRD consist of 0.7
cm thick extruded scintillator slabs inserted into air gaps of the UA1 magnet
yokes. The readout of each scintillator slab is provided through a single WLS
fiber embedded into a serpentine shaped groove. Two Hamamatsu multi-pixel
avalanche photodiodes (MPPC's) are coupled to both ends of the WLS fiber. This
design allows us to achieve a high MIP detection efficiency of greater than
99%. A light yield of 25-50 p.e./MIP, a time resolution of about 1 ns and a
spatial resolution along the slab better than 10 cm were obtained for the SMRD

Application of Hamamatsu MPPC to T2K Neutrino Detectors
A special type of Hamamatsu MPPC, with a sensitive area of 1.3x1.3mm^2
containing 667 pixels with 50x50um^2 each, has been developed for the near
neutrino detector in the T2K long baseline neutrino experiment. About 60 000
MPPCs will be used in total to read out the plastic scintillator detectors with
wavelength shifting fibers. We report on the basic performance of MPPCs

Scintillator detectors with long WLS fibers and multi-pixel photodiodes
We have studied the possibility of using Geiger mode multi-pixel photodiodes
to read out long scintillator bars with a single wavelength-shifting fiber
embedded along the bar. This detector configuration can be used in large volume
detectors in future long baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. Prototype
bars of 0.7 cm thickness and different widths have been produced and tested
using two types of multi-pixel photodiodes: MRS APD (CPTA, Moscow) and MPPC
(Hamamatsu). A minimum light yield of 7.2 p.e./MeV was obtained for a 4 cm wide
