High-performance circular TE01-mode converter
[[abstract]]This study presents the design and cold testing of a Ka-band TE01-mode converter. A wave is efficiently converted from the TE10 rectangular waveguide mode into the TE01 circular waveguide mode. This converter comprises a power-dividing section and a mode-converting section. The field pattern and the working principle of each section are analyzed and discussed. A prototype was built and tested. Back-to-back transmission measurements exhibit excellent agreement to the results of computer simulations. The measured optimum transmissions are 97% with a 1-dB bandwidth of 5.8 GHz centered at 34.0 GHz. The angle-independent transmissions manifest high mode purity and the field pattern is directly demonstrated on a temperature-sensitive liquid-crystal sheet. SOCIAL NETWORK PRIVACY DISPOSITIONS: AN OBJECTIVE MEASUREMENT SCALE AND A CAUSAL MODEL
The Information Systems literature has substantially advanced understanding of privacy in both offline contexts and online environments. Despite the rich understanding, existing studies predominately focused on elucidating privacy issues specific to individuals. The increasingly popular usage of mobile apps with social media integration has fundamentally challenged current understanding and conceptualization of information privacy. In particular, mobile apps allow information collection beyond individuals’ personal scope (i.e., his/her personal information) and extend the scope of acquisition into individuals’ online social networks (i.e., his/her list of friends on Facebook). To fill this gap in the literature, drawing on the Communication Privacy Management Theory, this proposal focuses on three unique dimensions of social network privacy dispositions, namely permeability, ownership, and linkage. Second, we propose to operationalize these three dimensions of social network privacy dispositions using a second-order reflective construct, and we plan to develop an objective measurement scale for it. Regional difference of the start time of the recent warming in Eastern China: prompted by a 165-year temperature record deduced from tree rings in the Dabie Mountains
Tree-ring studies from tropical to subtropical regions are rarer than that from extratropical regions, which greatly limit our understanding of some critical climate change issues. Based on the tree-ring-width chronology of samples collected from the Dabie Mountains, we reconstructed the April-June mean temperature for this region with an explained variance of 46.8%. Five cold (1861-1869, 1889-1899, 1913-1920, 1936-1942 and 1952-1990) and three warm (1870-1888, 1922-1934 and 2000-2005) periods were identified in the reconstruction. The reconstruction not only agreed well with the instrumental records in and around the study area, but also showed good resemblance to previous temperature reconstructions from nearby regions, indicating its spatial and temporal representativeness of the temperature variation in the central part of eastern China. Although no secular warming trend was found, the warming trend since 1970 was unambiguous in the Dabie Mountains (0.064 A degrees C/year). Further temperature comparison indicated that the start time of the recent warming in eastern China was regional different. It delayed gradually from north to south, starting at least around 1940 AD in the north part, around 1970 AD in the central part and around 1980s in the south part. This work enriches the high-resolution temperature reconstructions in eastern China. We expect that climate warming in the future would promote the radial growth of alpine Pinus taiwanensis in the subtropical areas of China, therefore promote the carbon capture and carbon storage in the Pinus taiwanensis forest. It also helps to clarify the regional characteristic of recent warming in eastern China.</p
ZnO:Co Diluted Magnetic Semiconductor or Hybrid Nanostructure for Spintronics?
We have studied the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic defects in the
magnetic and electrical transport properties of Co-doped ZnO thin films. X ray
absorption measurements show that Co substitute Zn in the ZnO structure and it
is in the 2+ oxidation state. Magnetization (M) measurements show that doped
samples are mainly paramagnetic. From M vs. H loops measured at 5 K we found
that the values of the orbital L and spin S numbers are between 1 and 1.3 for L
and S = 3/2, in agreement with the representative values for isolated Co 2+.
The obtained negative values of the Curie-Weiss temperatures indicate the
existence of antiferromagnetic interactions between transition metal atoms.Comment: To be published in Journal of Materials Scienc
A Factorization Law for Entanglement Decay
We present a simple and general factorization law for quantum systems shared
by two parties, which describes the time evolution of entanglement upon passage
of either component through an arbitrary noisy channel. The robustness of
entanglement-based quantum information processing protocols is thus easily and

Feynman Rules for the Rational Part of the Standard Model One-loop Amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman Scheme
We study Feynman rules for the rational part of the Standard Model
amplitudes at one-loop level in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme.
Comparing our results for quantum chromodynamics and electroweak 1-loop
amplitudes with that obtained based on the Kreimer-Korner-Schilcher (KKS)
scheme, we find the latter result can be recovered when our
scheme becomes identical (by setting in our expressions)
with the KKS scheme. As an independent check, we also calculate Feynman rules
obtained in the KKS scheme, finding our results in complete agreement with
formulae presented in the literature. Our results, which are studied in two
different schemes, may be useful for clarifying the
problem in dimensional regularization. They are helpful to eliminate or find

Bayesian lasso binary quantile regression
In this paper, a Bayesian hierarchical model for variable selection and estimation in the context of binary quantile regression is proposed. Existing approaches to variable selection in a binary classification context are sensitive to outliers, heteroskedasticity or other anomalies of the latent response. The method proposed in this study overcomes these problems in an attractive and straightforward way. A Laplace likelihood and Laplace priors for the regression parameters are proposed and estimated with Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo. The resulting model is equivalent to the frequentist lasso procedure. A conceptional result is that by doing so, the binary regression model is moved from a Gaussian to a full Laplacian framework without sacrificing much computational efficiency. In addition, an efficient Gibbs sampler to estimate the model parameters is proposed that is superior to the Metropolis algorithm that is used in previous studies on Bayesian binary quantile regression. Both the simulation studies and the real data analysis indicate that the proposed method performs well in comparison to the other methods. Moreover, as the base model is binary quantile regression, a much more detailed insight in the effects of the covariates is provided by the approach. Semiparametric Multivariate Accelerated Failure Time Model with Generalized Estimating Equations
The semiparametric accelerated failure time model is not as widely used as
the Cox relative risk model mainly due to computational difficulties. Recent
developments in least squares estimation and induced smoothing estimating
equations provide promising tools to make the accelerate failure time models
more attractive in practice. For semiparametric multivariate accelerated
failure time models, we propose a generalized estimating equation approach to
account for the multivariate dependence through working correlation structures.
The marginal error distributions can be either identical as in sequential event
settings or different as in parallel event settings. Some regression
coefficients can be shared across margins as needed. The initial estimator is a
rank-based estimator with Gehan's weight, but obtained from an induced
smoothing approach with computation ease. The resulting estimator is consistent
and asymptotically normal, with a variance estimated through a multiplier
resampling method. In a simulation study, our estimator was up to three times
as efficient as the initial estimator, especially with stronger multivariate
dependence and heavier censoring percentage. Two real examples demonstrate the
utility of the proposed method
