    The practice of social entrepreneurship: Theory and the Swedish experience

    The notion of social entrepreneurship has gained increasing recognition in the last years, both as an increasingly visible mode of economic action, and as an important policy tool. The paper outlines a typology that departs from a Schumpeterian view of entrepreneurship, that centers on the creation of new combinations of resources, and focuses on the nature of actors engaging in the pursuit, and the nature of resources mobilized. The analysis is illustrated by case study material on social enterprises that operate on the boundaries of the Swedish Welfare State, and historical examples taken from co-operative enterprises. Social entrepreneurship may be mapped on such a typology as a category of entrepreneurship that primarily (a) is engaged in by collective actors, and (b) involves, in a central role in the undertaking's resource mix, socially embedded resources. Social entrepreneurship that involves (or centers on) a business activity is one important subcategory of the field. It necessarily spans the boundary between different rule regimes that define resources and their utilization (cf. Polanyi 1944/2001: 57). The core business activity would thus involve the tapping of socially embedded resources and their conversion into (market-) convertible resources. As importantly, to ensure the undertaking's (or enterprise's) survival over time, it would also be expected to contribute to the replenishment of such resources, reconverting market resources into social capital. --

    Mental health has become an increasingly important topic within the sports world over the past decade, with athletes raising awareness on both the professional and collegiate levels. The coach plays a key role in supporting the mental health of his or her athletes, but some coaching methods may run counter to that objective. Research was conducted through a literature review, examining the psychological trends within athletics and the ways coaches can adapt their methods. The accompanying print and audio feature stories will aim to help deliver this research to the public by educating coaches on this important issue, including interviews with coaches, athletes, and psychological experts to provide faces to the issue

    An Assessment of the Valparaiso University Transit Bus Wait Time

    The Valpo Transit Bus is a transportation option at Valparaiso University where students can request the bus at 23 different locations on campus ranging from the Gellersen Engineering and Mathematics building at the east end of campus to Wesemann Hall at the far west. This is a handy transportation option when it comes to traveling long distances on campus or when the weather is not ideal. This study examined the average time a student has to wait for the bus categorized by location and time of day. Data was collected by requesting the transit bus on the app and then timing how long it takes to arrive at that location once the request was made. This information will be used to inform student expectations on probable waiting times. Interviews with bus drivers were also performed to add additional information about the operational parameters of the service

    The rise and fall of Turkey’s soft power discourse

    Since the coming to power of the Justice and Development Party [Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP] in 2002, Turkish foreign policy has witnessed significant changes. After the euphoric years of foreign policy pro-activism geared towards the global expansion of Turkey’s influence, domestic and regional developments have raised questions concerning Ankara’s capacity to achieve its ambitious foreign policy goals. Parallel to the “rise and fall” of Turkish foreign policy, a similar cycle can be observed regarding the discourse on Turkey’s “soft power”. This paper seeks to appraise Turkey’s “soft power” and “model” discourses by establishing the chronology of their emergence and highlighting the multidimensional structure of their production. The authors argue that the discourses on Turkey’s “soft power” are created within a triadic system of discourse production. This system works through the domains of think tanks, academia, and foreign policy actors in Turkey and beyond. These domains are bound to each other through reciprocal relations of interest and are negotiated by gatekeepers, i.e. well-connected persons of influence. Turkey’s “soft power” discourse is as much a product of Turkish foreign policy itself as it is a product of Turkey’s relations with the United States (US). Circulating through these different domains, and being appropriated by a large number of actors with differing and sometimes contradictory interests, these discourses, reconstructed by the authors in this study, are highly permeable, diverse, and unstable. For a brief period, they did, however, collectively contribute to the emergence of an almost hegemonic discourse on Turkey’s soft power, thereby reinforcing the AKP regime at the beginning of the 2010s

    ANALISIS FAKTOR RISIKO KEJADIAN MUSCULOSKELETAL DISORDERS (MSDS) PADA PENGRAJIN KERAMIK DI TLOGOMAS KECAMATAN LOWOKWARU KOTA MALANG

    Keluhan musculoskeletal adalah keluhan pada bagian otot-otot skeletal yang dirasakan seseorang mulai dari keluhan yang sangat ringan sampai berat. Keluhan  Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) yang sering timbul pada pekerja adalah nyeri punggung, leher, pergelangan tangan, siku dan kaki. Tubuh bagian atas terutama punggung dan lengan adalah bagian yang paling rentan terhadap risiko terkena MSDs. Faktor risiko kejadian MSDs dibagi menjadi 2, yakni faktor individu dan faktor pekerjaan. Duduk dengan waktu yang lama dalam melakukan pekerjaan menjadi salah satu penyebab terjadinya MSDs terutama pada pekerja manual handling seperti pengrajin keramik. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui faktor risiko kejadian MSDs pada pengrajin keramik di Tlogomas Kecamatan Lowokwaru Kota Malang. Desain penelitian menggunakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan pendekatan cross sectional. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan juni-juli dengan jumlah populasi 30 orang. Penentuan sampel menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dengan sampel berjumlah 25 orang. Uji statistik yang digunakan yaitu  chi-square dan Risk Relative (RR). Berdasarkan hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa terdapat 2 variabel yang berpengaruh terhadap kejadian Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) yaitu postur tubuh (p= 0,016) dan beban kerja (p = 0,035). Variabel yang tidak berpengaruh yaitu: usia (p = 0,199), jenis kelamin (p = 0,409), masa kerja (p = 0,278), kebiasaan merokok (p = 0,169), kebiasaan olahraga (p = 0,409), indeks massa tubuh (IMT) (p = 0,739), dan durasi kerja (p = 0,409). Faktor yang paling berisiko yaitu postur tubuh kategori tidak sesuai dengan nilai Risk Relative (RR) 2,526. Untuk itu disarankan agar pengusaha keramik memfasilitasi pekerja dengan tempat duduk yang memiliki sandaran, disamping itu pekerja diharapkan melakukan peregangan ringan selama bekerja dan banyak mengkonsumsi makanan berserat

     Sanitasi kapal merupakan salah satu usaha yang ditujukan terhadap faktor risiko lingkungan dikapal untuk memutuskan mata rantai penularan penyakit guna memelihara dan mempertinggi derajat kesehatan. Sanitasi kapal mencakup seluruh aspek penilaian kompartemen kapal antara lain dapur, ruang penyediaan makanan, palka, gudang, kamar anak buah kapal, penyediaan air bersih, dan penyajian makanan serta pengendalian vektor penular penyakit atau rodent. Pada saat tim petugas melakukan pemeriksaan sanitasi kapal sering dijumpai atau ditemukannya faktor internal terhadap sanitasi kapal kargo di pelabuhan Probolinggo. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh faktor internal terhadap sanitasi kapal kargo bersandar di pelabuhan Probolinggo. Penelitian bersifat kuantitatif karena peneliti menggunakan angka mulai dari pengumpulan data, pengolahan serta penyajian hasil. Desain penelitian menggunakan observasional dengan menggunakan pendekatan cross sectional. Sampel  dalam penelitian ini adalah 10 kapal kargo yang bersandar di Pelabuhan Probolinggo dengan teknik pengambilan sampel secara Accidental Sampling, dimana pengambilan sampel dilakukan dengan mengambil kapal kargo sebagai sampel yang bersandar dan didasarkan pada suatu pertimbangan kriteria inklusi dan kriteria eksklusi. Alat yang digunakan adalah form pemeriksaan sanitasi kapal dan, kuesioner dan lembar observasi. Analisa data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan uji regresi logistik untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari variabel X terhadap variabel Y

    This thesis explores the intersection of diaspora, liminal spaces, and saudade in contemporary cinema. Drawing on the theories of Hamid Naficy, Avtar Brah, and Robin Cohen, the study examines the representation of diasporic experiences and identities in films from different regions and contexts. Additionally, the thesis delves into the concept of saudade and its representation in Lusophone literature through the works of various authors. Through the analysis of nine selected films and works of literature, the study aims to identify patterns and tendencies in the representation of diaspora and liminal spaces in cinema and saudade in cinema and literature. Overall, the research contributes to the understanding of diaspora, liminal spaces, and saudade as crucial themes in contemporary cinema and literature

    Afin d’analyser le rĂŽle des acteurs privĂ©s dans la politique Ă©trangĂšre de la Turquie, cet article Ă©tudie l’action du mouvement de Fethullah GĂŒlen au Kurdistan irakien de 1994 Ă  2014. Ce cas d’étude met en Ă©vidence le fait que des rĂ©seaux transnationaux comme le mouvement de GĂŒlen participent Ă  la production de la politique Ă©trangĂšre, et que cette participation varie en fonction de l’évolution des coalitions mobilisĂ©es pour le contrĂŽle du pouvoir sur la scĂšne nationale. Ainsi, le dĂ©veloppement du mouvement de GĂŒlen Ă©tait en partie liĂ© aux intĂ©rĂȘts de la politique Ă©trangĂšre turque lorsque celle-ci Ă©tait contrĂŽlĂ©e par l’armĂ©e au dĂ©but des annĂ©es 1990. Il a ensuite participĂ© Ă  la production d’un nouveau paradigme sur le dossier kurde irakien au sein d’une « nĂ©buleuse rĂ©formatrice » rassemblant bureaucrates et acteurs privĂ©s de divers horizons Ă  la fin des annĂ©es 2000. Suite au transfert de ce dossier de l’armĂ©e au ministĂšre des Affaires Ă©trangĂšres et au dĂ©veloppement des relations entre Ankara et Erbil, le mouvement de GĂŒlen a progressivement Ă©tĂ© marginalisĂ©, avant que l’Etat turc lui-mĂȘme demande la fermeture de ces Ă©coles suite au conflit entre l’AKP et la cemaat en dĂ©cembre 2013.This article addresses the role of private actors in Turkish foreign policy process, and more specifically the interactions between the GĂŒlen movement and Turkish foreign policy towards Iraqi Kurdistan from 1994 to 2014. This case study brings to light the fact that the role of transnational networks in foreign policy depends on the evolution of power struggle between competing coalitions on the domestic scene. Therefore, the development of the GĂŒlen movement’s activities was partly linked with the army’s foreign policy at the beginning of the 1990’s. It then evolved and participated with a reformer nexus of various actors to the production of a new paradigm on the Kurdish file at the end of the 2000’s. After the file transfer from the army to the MFA and the development of the relations between Ankara and Erbil, the GĂŒlen movement started to be marginalized, and the Turkish state even asked for the closure of the schools after the crisis between the AKP government and the movement in December 2013

    Problem Based Learning: Improve Critical Thinking Skills for Long Life Learning

    This study aims to increase the students' critical thinking. The subjects of this study were 37 students of XI-Science E from Senior High School 2 Tuban, who used the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This research was a Class Action Research (CAR) used interviews with chemistry teachers at Senior High School 2 Tuban, the observation’s instruments were used student activity sheet and posttest questions to measure the students’ critical thinking skills. The research was conducted in two cycles with a total of four meetings. The data analyzed descriptively and obtained were learning using PBL between cycles 1 and 2 experienced increase in activity of paying attention to teacher explanations, giving opinions, investigating, analyzing solutions, and students' critical thinking skills increased based on the analysis of posttest scores in cycles 1 and 2. The mean value in cycle 1 of the interpretation indicator was 45 while in cycle 2 it went up to 97, in the inference indicator the average of cycle 1 was 58 while cycle 2 increased to 98 and the analysis indicator in cycle 1 had an average value of 53 while cycle 2 was 81. The completeness of students was seen by the percentage of students whose posttest scores in cycle 2 reached KKM, namely interpretation of 97% (35) of students complete, inference of 95% (35) students complete, and analysis as much as 86% (32) students completed.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik. Subjek penelitian ini adalah peserta didik SMAN 2 Tuban kelas XI-IPA E yang berjumlah 37 , menggunakan model Problem Based Learning (PBL). Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindak Kelas (PTK) menggunakan metode wawancara kepada guru kimia SMAN 2 Tuban, observasi menggunakan instrument lembar aktivitas peserta didik dan soal posttest untuk mengukur keterampilan berpikir kritis. Penelitian dilakukan sebanyak dua siklus dengan total empat pertemuan. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan hasil sebagai berikut: 1) pembelajaran menggunakan PBL antara siklus 1 dan 2 mengalami peningkatan aktivitas dalam memperhatikan penjelasan guru,berpendapat/bertanya, investigasi dan ketika menganalisis solusi; 2) Keterampilan berpikir kritis peserta didik ketika diterapkan model PBL meningkat berdasarkan analisis nilai posttest pada siklus 1 dan 2. Nilai rerata pada siklus 1 indicator intepretasi yaitu 45 sedangkan siklus 2 naik jauh menjadi 97, pada indicator inferensi rerata siklus 1 yaitu 58 sedangkan siklus 2 naik menjadi 98 dan pada indicator analisis siklus 1 memiliki rerata nilai 53 sedangkan siklus 2 yaitu 81. Ketuntasan peserta didik dilihat presentase peserta didik yang nilai posttest siklus 2 mencapai KKM yaitu interpretasi sebanyak 97% (35) peserta didik tuntas, inferensi sebanyak 95%(35) peserta didik tuntas, dan analisis sebanyak 86% (32) peserta didik tuntas
