Distance-dependent emission spectrum from two qubits in a strong-coupling regime

We study the emission spectrum of two distant qubits strongly coupled to a waveguide by using the numerical and analytical approaches, which are beyond the Markovian approximation and the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). The numerical approach combines the Dirac-Frenkel time-dependent variational principle with the multiple Davydov D1D_{1} ansatz. A transformed RWA (TRWA) treatment and a standard perturbation (SP) are used to analytically calculate the emission spectrum. It is found that the variational approach and the TRWA treatment yield accurate emission spectra of the two distant qubits in certain strong coupling regimes while the SP breaks down. The emission spectrum is found to be asymmetric irrespective of the two-qubit distance and exhibits a single peak, doublet, and multipeaks depending on the two-qubit distance as well as the initial states. In sharply contrast with the single-qubit case, the excited-state populations of the two qubits can ultraslowly decay due to the subradiance even in the presence of a strong qubit-waveguide coupling, which in turn yields ultranarrow emission line. Our results provide insights into the emission spectral features of the two distant qubits in the strong light-matter coupling regime.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figure

Effects of Tonal Coarticulation and Prosodic Positions on Tonal Contours of Low Rising Tones: In the Case of Xiamen Dialect

Few studies have worked on the effects of tonal coarticulation and prosodic positions on the low rising tone in Xiamen Dialect. This study addressed such an issue. To do so, a new method, the Tonal Contour Analysis in Tonal Triangle, was proposed to measure the subtle curvature of the tonal contour. Findings are as follows: (1) The low rising tone in Xiamen Dialect has a tendency towards the falling-rising tone, which is significantly affected by the tonal coarticulation and prosodic positions. (2) The low rising tone presents as a falling-rising tone when preceded by a tone with a high offset, and as a low rising tone when preceded by a tone that ends up low. (3) The curvature of the low rising tone is greatest in the sentence-initial position, and is positively correlated to its own duration.Comment: To be published in InterSpeech 202

Abstract. Applying the new iterative method (DGJM), which have been used to handle the nonlinear models, we investigate the approximate analytical solutions for a nonlinear fractional ordinary differential equation (FODE), where the fractional derivatives are considered in Caputo sense. On the process of dealing with nonlinear terms, we particularly employ Taylor series expansion to obtain the analytical solutions

BackgroundViolence to others (hereinafter referred to as “violence-TO”) is common in individuals with schizophrenia. The reported prevalence of violence-TO among schizophrenics ranges widely in existing studies. Improved prevalence estimates and identification of moderators are needed to guide future management and research.MethodsWe searched EBSCO, EMBASE, Medline, PubMed, Science Direct, Web of Science, CNKI, VIP, WANFANG data, and CBM for relevant articles published before June 5, 2022. Meanwhile, violence-TO was summarized into four categories: (a) violence-TO on the reviews of official criminal or psychiatric records (type I); (b) less serious forms of violence-TO (type II); (c) physical acts causing demonstrable harm to victims (type III); (d) homicide (type IV). We did meta-analysis for the above types of violence-TO, respectively, and applied subgroup analyses and meta-regression analyses to investigate the source of heterogeneity.ResultsA total of 56 studies were eligible in this study and 34 of them were high-quality. The prevalence of type I to type IV in individuals with schizophrenia in China was 23.83% (95% CI: 18.38–29.75%), 23.16% (95% CI: 8.04–42.97%), 17.19% (95%CI: 8.52–28.04%), and 0.62% (95% CI: 0.08–1.54%) respectively. The results of the subgroup analysis showed that the prevalence of type I was higher among subjects in the inland than in the coastal non-economic zone, while the prevalence of type III was the highest in the coastal economic zone, followed by the inland region and the lowest in the coastal non-economic zone. The results of multivariate meta-regression analyses showed that: patient source in type I (β = 0.15, P < 0.01), patient source (β = 0.47, P < 0.01), and proportion of male (β = 0.19, P < 0.01) in type II, age (β = 0.25, P < 0.01), and GDP per capita (β = 0.05, P = 0.01) in type III were statistically significant.ConclusionThe prevalence of different types of violence-TO and their influencing factors varied. Therefore, the authorities should take different management measures. In addition to individual factors, regional factors may also affect violence-TO, which suggests the need for a multi-sectorial approach to prevention and treatment for subjects in different regions and adopting targeted control strategies.Systematic Review Registration[www.ClinicalTrials.gov], identifier [CRD42021269767]

    2023 roadmap for potassium-ion batteries

The heavy reliance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) has caused rising concerns on the sustainability of lithium and transition metal and the ethic issue around mining practice. Developing alternative energy storage technologies beyond lithium has become a prominent slice of global energy research portfolio. The alternative technologies play a vital role in shaping the future landscape of energy storage, from electrified mobility to the efficient utilization of renewable energies and further to large-scale stationary energy storage. Potassium-ion batteries (PIBs) are a promising alternative given its chemical and economic benefits, making a strong competitor to LIBs and sodium-ion batteries for different applications. However, many are unknown regarding potassium storage processes in materials and how it differs from lithium and sodium and understanding of solid–liquid interfacial chemistry is massively insufficient in PIBs. Therefore, there remain outstanding issues to advance the commercial prospects of the PIB technology. This Roadmap highlights the up-to-date scientific and technological advances and the insights into solving challenging issues to accelerate the development of PIBs. We hope this Roadmap aids the wider PIB research community and provides a cross-referencing to other beyond lithium energy storage technologies in the fast-pacing research landscape

Genome-wide meta-analysis uncovers novel loci influencing circulating leptin levels

    Get PDF
Leptin is an adipocyte-secreted hormone, the circulating levels of which correlate closely with overall adiposity. Although rare mutations in the leptin (LEP) gene are well known to cause leptin deficiency and severe obesity, no common loci regulating circulating leptin levels have been uncovered. Therefore, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of circulating leptin levels from 32,161 individuals and followed up loci reaching P <10(-6) in 19,979 additional individuals. We identify five loci robustly associated (P <5 x 10(-8)) with leptin levels in/near LEP, SLC32A1, GCKR, CCNL1 and FTO. Although the association of the FTO obesity locus with leptin levels is abolished by adjustment for BMI, associations of the four other loci are independent of adiposity. The GCKR locus was found associated with multiple metabolic traits in previous GWAS and the CCNL1 locus with birth weight. Knockdown experiments in mouse adipose tissue explants show convincing evidence for adipogenin, a regulator of adipocyte differentiation, as the novel causal gene in the SLC32A1 locus influencing leptin levels. Our findings provide novel insights into the regulation of leptin production by adipose tissue and open new avenues for examining the influence of variation in leptin levels on adiposity and metabolic health.Peer reviewe

    No full text
BackgroundPelvic floor muscle (PFM) dysfunction and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are common in stroke patients. Although pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is a promising intervention, its effects on stroke patients have not been fully studied.ObjectiveThe goal of this study was to conduct a systematic review of the effect of PFMT on PFM and urinary function of stroke patients.MethodsThe databases AMED, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, and PEDro were searched for title/abstract on PFMT and stroke. RCTs and quasi-experimental trials that compared the effects of PFMT to a control intervention in stroke patients were included. The RoB 2.0 and ROBINS-I were used to assess the methodological quality of the included studies. The Standardized mean difference (SMD) and its 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated.ResultsThe current review included three RCTs and one quasi-experimental study, all of which were moderate to high quality. The analysis revealed that PFMT significantly improved PFM contraction (SMD: 0.92; 95% CI, 0.47 to 1.38; p < .0001), dynamic endurance (SMD: 0.61; 95% CI, 0.06 to 1.16; p = .030), daytime frequency (SMD: −0.81; 95% CI, −1.37 to −0.25; p = .004), ICIQ-SF (SMD: −1.64; 95% CI, −2.39 to −0.89; p < .0001), and LUTS (SMD: −1.82; 95% CI, −2.67 to −0.96; p < .0001). Differences in PFM strength, static endurance, nocturia, UI frequency, and 24-hour pad weight were insignificant or non-existent between the two groups.ConclusionThis review demonstrates that PFMT improves PFM contraction, PFM dynamic endurance, daytime frequency, and overall LUTS in stroke patients. To validate these findings, well-designed RCTs with large sample sizes and reliable outcome measures should be conducted
