    Design of a core-shell catalyst : an effective strategy for suppressing side reactions in syngas for direct selective conversion to light olefins

    An elegant catalyst is designedviathe encapsulation of metallic oxide Zn-Cr inside of zeolite SAPO34 as a core-shell structure (Zn-Cr@SAPO) to realize the coupling of methanol-synthesis and methanol-to-olefin reactions. It can not only break through the limitation of the Anderson-Schulz-Flory distribution but can also overcome the disadvantages of physical mixture catalysts, such as excessive CO2formation. The confinement effect, hierarchical structure and extremely short distance between the two active components result in the Zn-Cr@SAPO capsule catalyst having better mass transfer and diffusion with a boosted synergistic effect. Due to the difference between the adsorption energies of the Zn-Cr metallic oxide/SAPO zeolite physical mixture and capsule catalysts, the produced water and light olefins are easily removed from the Zn-Cr@SAPO capsule catalyst after formation, suppressing the side reactions. The light olefin space time yield (STY) of the capsule catalyst is more than twice that of the typical physical mixture catalyst. The designed capsule catalyst has superior potential for scale-up in industrial applications while simultaneously extending the capabilities of hybrid catalysts for other tandem catalysis reactions through this strategy. © The Royal Society of Chemistry 2020

    Data sharing is critical to advance genomic research by reducing the demand to collect new data by reusing and combining existing data and by promoting reproducible research. The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) is a popular resource for individual-level genotype-phenotype cancer related data. The Database of Genotypes and Phenotypes (dbGaP) contains many datasets similar to those in TCGA. We have created a software pipeline that will allow researchers to discover relevant genomic data from dbGaP, based on matching TCGA metadata. The resulting research provides an easy to use tool to connect these two data sources

    Evaluation of the IP-10 mRNA release assay for diagnosis of TB in HIV-infected individuals

    HIV-infected individuals are susceptible to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb) infection and are at high risk of developing active tuberculosis (TB). Interferon-gamma release assays (IGRAs) are auxiliary tools in the diagnosis of TB. However, the performance of IGRAs in HIV-infected individuals is suboptimal, which limits clinical application. Interferon-inducible protein 10 (IP-10) is an alternative biomarker for identifying M.tb infection due to its high expression after stimulation with M.tb antigens. However, whether IP-10 mRNA constitutes a target for the diagnosis of TB in HIV-infected individuals is unknown. Thus, we prospectively enrolled HIV-infected patients with suspected active TB from five hospitals between May 2021 and May 2022, and performed the IGRA test (QFT-GIT) alongside the IP-10 mRNA release assay on peripheral blood. Of the 216 participants, 152 TB patients and 48 non-TB patients with a conclusive diagnosis were included in the final analysis. The number of indeterminate results of IP-10 mRNA release assay (13/200, 6.5%) was significantly lower than that of the QFT-GIT test (42/200, 21.0%) (P = 0.000026). IP-10 mRNA release assay had a sensitivity of 65.3% (95%CI 55.9% – 73.8%) and a specificity of 74.2% (95%CI 55.4% – 88.1%), respectively; while the QFT-GIT test had a sensitivity of 43.2% (95%CI 34.1% – 52.7%) and a specificity of 87.1% (95%CI 70.2% – 96.4%), respectively. The sensitivity of the IP-10 mRNA release assay was significantly higher than that of QFT-GIT test (P = 0.00062), while no significant difference was detected between the specificities of these two tests (P = 0.198). The IP-10 mRNA release assay showed a lower dependence on CD4+ T cells than that of QFT-GIT test. This was evidenced by the fact that the QFT-GIT test had a higher number of indeterminate results and a lower sensitivity when the CD4+ T cells counts were decreased (P < 0.05), while no significant difference in the number of indeterminate results and sensitivity were observed for the IP-10 mRNA release assay among HIV-infected individuals with varied CD4+T cells counts (P > 0.05). Therefore, our study suggested that M.tb specific IP-10 mRNA is a better biomarker for diagnosis of TB in HIV-infected individuals

    Space advanced technology demonstration satellite

    The Space Advanced Technology demonstration satellite (SATech-01), a mission for low-cost space science and new technology experiments, organized by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was successfully launched into a Sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of similar to 500 km on July 27, 2022, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre. Serving as an experimental platform for space science exploration and the demonstration of advanced common technologies in orbit, SATech-01 is equipped with 16 experimental payloads, including the solar upper transition region imager (SUTRI), the lobster eye imager for astronomy (LEIA), the high energy burst searcher (HEBS), and a High Precision Magnetic Field Measurement System based on a CPT Magnetometer (CPT). It also incorporates an imager with freeform optics, an integrated thermal imaging sensor, and a multi-functional integrated imager, etc. This paper provides an overview of SATech-01, including a technical description of the satellite and its scientific payloads, along with their on-orbit performance

    Financial governance and economic development: making sense of the Chinese experience

    Despite fundamental market reforms, the Chinese financial system has remained a mixed system. From the perspectives of the mainstream doctrines of financial liberalization, this system is easily judged to be entailing serious allocative inefficiencies. Nevertheless, from alternative theoretical perspectives, the system might have been conducive to promoting productive efficiency. This paper argues that the actual experience does seem to indicate that, hitherto, the gains in productive efficiency have more than compensated for the losses in allocative efficiency. This judgement helps to make sense of the Chinese anomaly that a seemingly inefficient financial system has co-existed with the outstanding performance of financial deepening and economic development over the past three decades
