    CAFE: Coarse-to-Fine Neural Symbolic Reasoning for Explainable Recommendation

    Recent research explores incorporating knowledge graphs (KG) into e-commerce recommender systems, not only to achieve better recommendation performance, but more importantly to generate explanations of why particular decisions are made. This can be achieved by explicit KG reasoning, where a model starts from a user node, sequentially determines the next step, and walks towards an item node of potential interest to the user. However, this is challenging due to the huge search space, unknown destination, and sparse signals over the KG, so informative and effective guidance is needed to achieve a satisfactory recommendation quality. To this end, we propose a CoArse-to-FinE neural symbolic reasoning approach (CAFE). It first generates user profiles as coarse sketches of user behaviors, which subsequently guide a path-finding process to derive reasoning paths for recommendations as fine-grained predictions. User profiles can capture prominent user behaviors from the history, and provide valuable signals about which kinds of path patterns are more likely to lead to potential items of interest for the user. To better exploit the user profiles, an improved path-finding algorithm called Profile-guided Path Reasoning (PPR) is also developed, which leverages an inventory of neural symbolic reasoning modules to effectively and efficiently find a batch of paths over a large-scale KG. We extensively experiment on four real-world benchmarks and observe substantial gains in the recommendation performance compared with state-of-the-art methods.Comment: Accepted in CIKM 202

    MoS2 Nanosheets Assembled on Three-Way Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Tubes for Photocatalytic Water Splitting

    In this work, a micron-sized three-way nitrogen-doped carbon tube covered with MoS2 nanosheets (TNCT@MoS2) was synthesized and applied in photocatalytic water splitting without any sacrificial agents for the first time. The micron-sized three-way nitrogen-doped carbon tube (TNCT) was facilely synthesized by the calcination of commercial sponge. The MoS2 nanosheets were assembled on the carbon tubes by a hydrothermal method. Compared with MoS2, the TNCT@MoS2 heterostructures showed higher H2 evolution rate, which was ascribed to the improved charge separation efficiency and the increased active sites afforded by the TNCT

    An n-of-1 Trial Service in Clinical Practice: Testing the Effectiveness of Liuwei Dihuang Decoction for Kidney-Yin Deficiency Syndrome

    Objective. To describe the clinical use of n-of-1 RCTs for kidney-Yin deficiency syndrome that is a traditional Chinese medicine syndrome in publicly clinical practice in China. Methods. Our study included patients with kidney-Yin deficiency syndrome, using a within-patient, randomized, double-blind, crossover comparison of Liuwei Dihuang decoction versus placebo. Outcome Measures. Primary outcome measures included number of individual completion rates, response rate, and post-n-of-1 RCTs decisions. Secondary measures were the whole group score of individual Likert scale, SF-36 questionnaire. Results. Fifty patients were recruited and 3 were not completed. Forty-seven patients completed 3 pairs of periods, 3 (6.38%) were responders, 28 (59.57%) were nonresponders, and 16 (34.05%) were possible responders. Doctors and patients used the trial results to making decision. Three responders stayed on the medication management, 28 nonresponders ceased the LDD, 7 patients of the 16 possible responders could not give clear decision, and the others kept the same medication station. Among the whole group, neither the individual Likert score nor the SF-36 showed any statistical differences between LDD and placebo. Discussion. More attention should be paid to choose experienced TCM doctor as investigator and keep the simulant same with test medication in n-of-1 RCTs of TCM and sufficiently biological half-life period of Chinese medicine compound

    Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors and risk of heart failure in type 2 diabetes : systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised and observational studies

    Objectives To examine the association between dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors and the risk of heart failure or hospital admission for heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised and observational studies. Data sources Medline, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.gov searched up to 25 June 2015, and communication with experts. Eligibility criteria Randomised controlled trials, non-randomised controlled trials, cohort studies, and case-control studies that compared DPP-4 inhibitors against placebo, lifestyle modification, or active antidiabetic drugs in adults with type 2 diabetes, and explicitly reported the outcome of heart failure or hospital admission for heart failure. Data collection and analysis Teams of paired reviewers independently screened for eligible studies, assessed risk of bias, and extracted data using standardised, pilot tested forms. Data from trials and observational studies were pooled separately; quality of evidence was assessed by the GRADE approach. Results Eligible studies included 43 trials (n=68 775) and 12 observational studies (nine cohort studies, three nested case-control studies; n=1 777 358). Pooling of 38 trials reporting heart failure provided low quality evidence for a possible similar risk of heart failure between DPP-4 inhibitor use versus control (42/15 701 v 33/12 591; odds ratio 0.97 (95% confidence interval 0.61 to 1.56); risk difference 2 fewer (19 fewer to 28 more) events per 1000 patients with type 2 diabetes over five years). The observational studies provided effect estimates generally consistent with trial findings, but with very low quality evidence. Pooling of the five trials reporting admission for heart failure provided moderate quality evidence for an increased risk in patients treated with DPP-4 inhibitors versus control (622/18 554 v 552/18 474; 1.13 (1.00 to 1.26); 8 more (0 more to 16 more)). The pooling of adjusted estimates from observational studies similarly suggested (with very low quality evidence) a possible increased risk of admission for heart failure (adjusted odds ratio 1.41, 95% confidence interval 0.95 to 2.09) in patients treated with DPP-4 inhibitors (exclusively sitagliptin) versus no use. Conclusions The relative effect of DPP-4 inhibitors on the risk of heart failure in patients with type 2 diabetes is uncertain, given the relatively short follow-up and low quality of evidence. Both randomised controlled trials and observational studies, however, suggest that these drugs may increase the risk of hospital admission for heart failure in those patients with existing cardiovascular diseases or multiple risk factors for vascular diseases, compared with no use

    A New Random Walk Simulation Model for Study of Diffusion Behavior of Single Particle Within Two-Dimensional Space

    分子的扩散行为是微观化学的重要研究领域. 影响扩散行为的因素很多,但是目前各个因素的具体影响效果还不明确. 作者基于随机行走理论建立了分子在二维空间的扩散模型,依据此模型自主开发了模拟软件以及数据分析系统,并利用该模拟软件系统研究了势垒尧横向速度等因素对扩散行为的影响,验证了该模型的可靠性,证明根据该模型可以得到和实验尧理论相吻合的结果. 该软件有望成为模拟微观化学扩散行为的潜在平台,如电化学以及膜过滤过程中的扩散.Research on diffusion behaviors is of significant value in that it is closely related to transport phenomena in micro-chemistry. However, the effects of variables on diffusion are still unclear. Here, we developed and programmed a simulation methodology along with data analysis, which was capable to simulate the diffusion of a particle within twodimensional heterogeneous space in large timescale; the effects of periodically arranged impenetrable barriers of specific shape and lateral drifting velocity on diffusion behavior were studied. As well as standard mean square displacement analysis, a new method, the appearance probability distribution method, was introduced, which revealed whether the particle tended to be present at certain positions. This article introduced the construction of the simulation model and demonstrated the validity of the model. The results showed that our model fit qualitatively well with experiments and theories.     Study on the evaluation of the clinical effects of traditional chinese medicine in heart failure by complex intervention: protocol of SECETCM-HF

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Experts in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) have studied the TCM subject of the pathogenesis of heart failure (HF) for several decades. As a result, the general idea is <it>ben </it>deficiency and <it>biao </it>excess. However, the clinical evaluation system which combined the TCM and western medicine in HF has not been developed yet. The objective is to establish the evaluation index system for the integration of TCM and western medicine. The evaluation indexes which include TCM items will specify the research design and methods.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Nine medical centers in different cities in China will participate in the trial. A population of 340 patients with HF will be enrolled through a central randomized system for different test groups. Group A will be treated with only western medicine, while group B with western and Chinese medicine together. The study will last for 12 months from the date of enrollment. The cardiovascular death will be the primary outcome.</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>By putting the protocol into practice, the clinical effects of TCM for HF will be identified scientifically, objectively as well as rationally. The proper index system which built in the study will be helpful for the clinical effect expression of HF by integrated medicine in future.</p> <p>Trial Registration</p> <p>ChiCTR-TRC-00000059</p

    An image enhancement method for cable tunnel inspection robot

    Influenced by multiple factors such as low light intensity, dispersed light, excessive dust, and excessive ambient noise inside cable tunnels, the images captured by cable tunnel inspection robots have shortcomings such as low contrast, low pixel values, and high noise. To improve the image quality, this paper proposes an image enhancement method suitable for cable tunnel inspection robot. First, in this paper, a bivariate hybrid optimization module using the alternating direction multiplier method and the adaptive learning rate acceleration SVRG algorithm is constructed to achieve image pre-processing. Second, a feature extraction module combining a U-Net network and a coordinate attention mechanism is constructed to extract features from the original image and the pre-processed image. Third, the progressive feature fusion module and the image recovery module are constructed to fuse the above features and are combined with the original image to obtain the enhanced image. Finally, the pixel compensation module is constructed to compensate for the features of the enhanced image and recover the lost texture details
