non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for their anticancer activities. Besides being non-selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors, both NSAIDs are also direct ligands for peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR).

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of collaborative problem solving with SPM economic background and without SPM economic background on critical thinking and academic performance of lower six students

Mediating role of employee engagement between Blue Ocean Leadership and team performance

    Get PDF
The study examined the mediating effect of employee engagement between blue ocean leadership and team performance among lecturers. A cross-sectional study design was used, and quantitative data were collected using a structured survey from 2,580 lecturers from the population across the 22 vocational colleges in Malaysia's north zone. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was used for data analysis. The results revealed a considerable positive relationship between blue ocean leadership and employee engagement, as well as between employee engagement and team performance. Employee engagement, as demonstrated through the use of bootstrapping analysis, acts as a mediator between blue ocean leadership and team performance. The finding supported the Blue Ocean Leadership theory and Social Exchange theory in this study. Future research is be recommended to conduct in other states as well as private institutions to get a comprehensive understanding

The incidence and the effect of overskilling on individuals’ wages in Malaysia: a quantile regression approach

This paper examines the incidence and the effect of overskilling on wages by taking individuals’ unobserved heterogeneity in ability using quantile regression (QR) method. Using data from the second Malaysia Productivity and Investment Climate Survey (PICS-2), the incidence of overskilling was reported around 31 percent - for which moderately overskilled accounted for 23 percent and severely overskilled accounted for 8 percent. Preliminary analysis revealed that overskilling was found to be heavily concentrated within low-ability segments of the workers’ conditional wage distributions. Using quantile regression (QR) method, the results revealed that although being overskilled resulted in wage penalty, the penalty, however, was heterogeneous across the entire workers’ conditional wages distribution. Indeed, the penalty for moderately overskilled was greater at the lower deciles and became smaller or even disappears as one moved up the wages distribution. This may be consistent with the view that the overskilled workers are likely amongst the lowability workers. By contrast, the penalty for severely overskilled, in particular women was evident all the way through the conditional wage distribution. This perhaps suggests that unobserved heterogeneity unable to explain the wages penalty for mismatched women. Nevertheless, this study may suggest the importance of including explicit controls for individuals’ unobserved ability where possible, as a mean to avoid bias estimation of the wage impacts of the overskilling

Mangos with Chili: Two-Spirit, Queer and Trans People of Colour Performance as Social Movement Building

    Get PDF
Mangos with Chili (MWC) is a two-spirit, queer and trans people of color (2-QTPOC) performance arts cabaret based in the San Francisco Bay Area. This research focuses on MWC performance content and personal interviews with four of MWC’s artists: Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Landa Lakes, Micha Cárdenas and Manish Vaidya. The author examines three aspects of MWC to consider: the economic context of precarity of cultural work; spirituality and healing in performance; and the politics of vulnerability and interdependence. By examining the challenges MWC faces and the methods MWC offers for social justice movement building, the author argues that MWC offers a politics and set of practices that hold difference affirmatively while leaving enough space to imagine and enact new worlds

Factors that influence Malaysian-based financial literacy model among teenagers

    Get PDF
Most of the young generation do not realize the importance of decision making, money-saving, and budget planning. Consequently, a total of 47% of bankruptcies in Malaysia occurred among young adults between the ages of 18-35. Young individuals account for the majority of bankruptcies, public awareness of financial literacy should be raised. More effective teaching in secondary school has attracted researchers' attention. One of the general objectives of the Malaysian curriculum for the students is to practice moral values. Money-saving can be considered as one of the moral values. Still, school teachers have to cover many other academic topics, and they always feel overburdened with all types of examination-oriented textbooks. Students' value towards money and attitude influence their financial decision. Other factors needed in financial literacy are decision-making and accountability. This study aimed to examine factors that influence students' human values in financial literacy. This study had instilled human values to encourage students to practice time-saving, decision making, money-saving, and other values related to their well-being in the future. The survey was employed in this study. Then, a video that integrated financial literacy and human values with a Malaysian-based real-world learning experience was created in stage two. In addition, the questionnaire was administered to 327 secondary school students after they watched the video. The structural equation modeling method was used to determine the factors that influenced the financial literacy model. The findings from the analysis retained four elements: practices, decision making, accountability, and human values. Future research can focus on a comparative analysis with neighboring countries

Incorporating financial literacy in video clips amongst high school students

    Get PDF
Young adults with enough financial knowledge can commonly make good financial decisions, whereas those who lack financial literacy are always burdened by student loans and credit card debts. Acquiring adequate financial knowledge has become crucial among young adults. The present study investigated the effectiveness of incorporating financial literacy into videos among high school students. The video clips were incorporated into financial literacy in the economics curriculum to engage students and facilitate their learning of financial literacy. This study employed the mixed-methods explanatory design. The data analysis procedures in this design involved collecting the quantitative data, analyzing the data, and using the data to guide the follow-up interviews. A total of 327 students participated in this study. The results showed a significant change in students’ behavior regarding financial literacy (F=271.847, p<.05). Financial literacy should be instilled to students from primary school through tertiary education to ensure long-term sustainability effects

The influence of students’ concept of mole, problem representation ability and mathematical ability on stoichiometry problem solving

    Get PDF
Students’ success in stoichiometry problem solving depends mainly on their understanding of the concept of mole and conceptual understanding of the problems. The challenge of enhancing students’ performance in solving stoichiometry problems remain a daunting task as many resort to just teaching how solve stoichiometry problems algorithmically. Two purposes of this study are: first, identifying the major factors influencing students’ performance in stoichiometry problem solving and second, investigating problems faced by students and teachers in stoichiometry learning and teaching in the classroom. A mixed method research design was employed in this study which involved a test and interview protocols. To conclude, students’ understanding of the concept of mole and their problem representation ability are significant predictors, however mathematical ability is not a significant factor in determining students’ success in solving the problems. Students have difficulties in ‘making sense’ of the chemical reaction itself. This implies teachers should not practice the ‘short cut’ approach in the entirety. Students ought to be exposed and guided to understand the underlying conceptual foundation of stoichiometry before introducing the algorithmic way of solving the problems.
