    Small-scale fluctuation and scaling law of mixing in three-dimensional rotating turbulent Rayleigh-Taylor instability

    The effect of rotation on small-scale characteristics and scaling law in the mixing zone of the three-dimensional turbulent Rayleigh-Taylor instability (RTI) is investigated by the lattice Boltzmann method at small Atwood number. The mixing zone width h ( t ) , the root mean square of small scale fluctuation, the spectra, and the structure functions are obtained to analyze the rotating effect. We mainly focus on the process of the development of plumes and discuss the physical mechanism in the mixing zone in rotating and nonrotating systems. The variation of kinetic energy spectra E u and temperature energy spectra E θ with the dimensionless rotation Ω τ demonstrate the suppression effect of rotation. Two scaling laws between the mixing layer width h ( t ) and dimensionless time t / τ are obtained at various Coriolis forces( √ h ( t ) ≃ t 0.9 and √ h ( t ) ≃ t 0.35 ). The rotation increasingly suppresses the growth of the mixing layer width h ( t ) . The velocity and temperature fluctuations are also suppressed by the rotation effect. The relation between the Nusselt number (Nu) and the Rayleigh number (Ra) indicates that the heat transfer is suppressed by the rotation effect in the rotating RT system. The width of the inertial subrange increasingly narrows with increasing Ω τ

    Rare pediatric synchronous bilateral testicular germ cell tumors of different pathological types: a case report

    The occurrence of synchronous bilateral testicular germ cell tumors (BTGCTs) of different pathologic histologic types in pediatric patients is rare. We reported a case of a left testicular yolk sac tumor (YST) combined with a right testicular mature teratoma. Left orchiectomy and right testis-sparing surgery were performed. Retroperitoneal recurrence was noted 6 months after surgery. The patient underwent reoperation for the resection of a retroperitoneal mass, which was pathologically diagnosed as a recurrent YST. A full cycle of chemotherapy was then administered. No tumor metastasis or recurrence has yet been detected. We present this new case, and we review the previous literature on synchronous BTGCTs to explore the clinicopathologic features and summarize the diagnostic and therapeutic experience. Radical orchiectomy, as the standard treatment for YSTs, should be considered with caution in patients with bilateral testicular tumors. Rapid intraoperative frozen pathology provides support for timely surgical planning. In patients with intraoperative frozen pathologic specimens suggestive of benign lesions, testis-sparing surgery is the preferred treatment option

    An adaptive forecasting method for the aggregated load with pattern matching

    Electrical load forecasting plays a vital role in the operation of power system. In this paper, a novel adaptive short-term load forecasting method for the aggregated load is built. The proposed method consists of two stages: load forecast model preparation stage and adaptive load forecast model selection stage. In the first stage, based on historical load data of all consumers, the typical monthly load patterns are firstly identified in an optimal fashion with the aid of the cosine similarity. Then, for each identified monthly load pattern, a stacking ensemble learning method is proposed to train the load forecasting model. In the second stage, according to the similarity between individual load data of the latest month and the identified monthly load pattern, all the consumers are firstly classified into different groups where each group corresponds to a particular load pattern. Then, for each group, the corresponding trained load forecasting model is employed for short-term load forecast and the final forecast of the aggregated load is calculated as a simple aggregation of the produced load forecast for each group of consumers. Case studies conducted on open dataset show that, compared with the single forecasting model, the proposed adaptive load forecasting method can effectively improve the load forecasting accuracy

    Orbital Nature of Carboionic Monoradicals Made from Diradicals

    The electronic, optical, and solid state properties of a series of monoradicals, anions and cations obtained from starting neutral diradicals have been studied. Diradicals based on s-indacene and indenoacenes, with benzothiophenes fused and in different orientations, feature a varying degree of diradical character in the neutral state, which is here related with the properties of the radical redox forms. The analysis of their optical features in the polymethine monoradicals has been carried out in the framework of the molecular orbital and valence bond theories. Electronic UVVis-NIR absorption, X-ray solid-state diffraction and quantum chemical calculations have been carried out. Studies of the different positive-/negative-charged species, both residing in the same skeletal π-conjugated backbone, are rare for organic molecules.     The Eukaryotic Pathogen, Vector and Host Informatics Resource (VEuPathDB, https://veupathdb.org) is a Bioinformatics Resource Center funded by the National Institutes of Health with additional funding from the Wellcome Trust. VEuPathDB supports >600 organisms that comprise invertebrate vectors, eukaryotic pathogens (protists and fungi) and relevant free-living or non-pathogenic species or hosts. Since 2004, VEuPathDB has analyzed omics data from the public domain using contemporary bioinformatic workflows, including orthology predictions via OrthoMCL, and integrated the analysis results with analysis tools, visualizations, and advanced search capabilities. The unique data mining platform coupled with >3000 pre-analyzed data sets facilitates the exploration of pertinent omics data in support of hypothesis driven research. Comparisons are easily made across data sets, data types and organisms. A Galaxy workspace offers the opportunity for the analysis of private large-scale datasets and for porting to VEuPathDB for comparisons with integrated data. The MapVEu tool provides a platform for exploration of spatially resolved data such as vector surveillance and insecticide resistance monitoring. To address the growing body of omics data and advances in laboratory techniques, VEuPathDB has added several new data types, searches and features, improved the Galaxy workspace environment, redesigned the MapVEu interface and updated the infrastructure to accommodate these changes
