Far-infrared photo-conductivity of electrons in an array of nano-structured antidots

We present far-infrared (FIR) photo-conductivity measurements for a two-dimensional electron gas in an array of nano-structured antidots. We detect, resistively and spectrally resolved, both the magnetoplasmon and the edge-magnetoplasmon modes. Temperature-dependent measurements demonstrates that both modes contribute to the photo resistance by heating the electron gas via resonant absorption of the FIR radiation. Influences of spin effect and phonon bands on the collective excitations in the antidot lattice are observed.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Embedded metal oxide plasmonics using local plasma oxidation of AZO for planar metasurfaces

New methods for achieving high‐quality conducting oxide metasurfaces are of great importance for a range of emerging applications from infrared thermal control coatings to epsilon‐near‐zero nonlinear optics. This work demonstrates the viability of plasma patterning as a technique to selectively and locally modulate the carrier density in planar Al‐doped ZnO (AZO) metasurfaces without any associated topographical surface profile. This technique stands in strong contrast to conventional physical patterning which results in nonplanar textured surfaces. The approach can open up a new route to form novel photonic devices with planar metasurfaces, for example, antireflective coatings and multi‐layer devices. To demonstrate the performance of the carrier‐modulated AZO metasurfaces, two types of devices are realized using the demonstrated plasma patterning. A metasurface optical solar reflector is shown to produce infrared emissivity equivalent to a conventional etched design. Second, a multiband metasurface is achieved by integrating a Au visible‐range metasurface on top of the planar AZO infrared metasurface. Independent control of spectral bands without significant cross‐talk between infrared and visible functionalities is achieved. Local carrier tuning of conducting oxide films offers a conceptually new approach for oxide‐based photonics and nanoelectronics and opens up new routes for integrated planar metasurfaces in optical technology

Operator entanglement of two-qubit joint unitary operations revisited: Schmidt number approach

Operator entanglement of two-qubit joint unitary operations is revisited. Schmidt number is an important attribute of a two-qubit unitary operation, and may have connection with the entanglement measure of the unitary operator. We found the entanglement measure of two-qubit unitary operators is classified by the Schmidt number of the unitary operators. The exact relation between the operator entanglement and the parameters of the unitary operator is clarified too.Comment: To appear in the Brazilian Journal of Physic

Notions about the reception of print fiction as well as new media texts have a strong tendency to fall back upon the dichotomy between naïve and critical reading. It is presupposed that reception will be characterized by either the one or the other. We will try to critique this dichotomy on the basis of the hypothesis that media cultural change brings with it new and hybrid textual forms, ways of reading, and patterns of reception which not lend themselves to description in simple terms of naïve or critical. We make a case for the necessity of transgressing the dominant assumptions of transactional reception theory within literary studies and instead move in the direction of what we call creative reading and media-reflexivity

Long-distance quantum communication with atomic ensembles and linear optics

    Get PDF
Quantum communication holds a promise for absolutely secure transmission of secret messages and faithful transfer of unknown quantum states. Photonic channels appear to be very attractive for physical implementation of quantum communication. However, due to losses and decoherence in the channel, the communication fidelity decreases exponentially with the channel length. We describe a scheme that allows to implement robust quantum communication over long lossy channels. The scheme involves laser manipulation of atomic ensembles, beam splitters, and single-photon detectors with moderate efficiencies, and therefore well fits the status of the current experimental technology. We show that the communication efficiency scale polynomially with the channel length thereby facilitating scalability to very long distances.Comment: 2 tex files (Main text + Supplement), 4 figure

The research of technological drying modes of combined fermented milk protein products with vegetable additives

Milk and dairy products are often dried to reduce weight, to facilitate transportation, to extend shelf life. For examplе, dry fermentеd milk products occupy a special placе in the dairy industry. Currently, thеir assortment is significantly еxpanding and the approach to food products of this group is qualitatively changing. The articlе presents the results of drying fermented milk protein products in two ways: using thermal and microwave drying. It was found that thе duration of moisture loss in the product during heat drying increased with a decrease in temperature. With an increase in temperature from 400C to 500C, there was a decrease of about 25% in the moisture content of the test samplеs during 5 hours of drying in the dehydrator. Drying with using of microwaves, the drying time decreased with increasing microwave power. The 900 W power reduced the drying time by 2 times compared to the 270 W power to obtain a 15% humidity result and a water activity indicator in the range from 0.382 to 0.394 units
