Existence of Solutions for Generalized Vector Equilibrium Problems

    Get PDF
AbstractThe concepts of aF(C,D)-pseudomonotone mapping and of a (C,D)-pseudomonotone pair of mappings are introduced. By employing Fan's lemma, we establish several existence results for generalized vector equilibrium problems. The new results extend and modify various existence theorems for similar problems

Language Skills and Labor Market Performance of Immigrants in the Netherlands

    Get PDF
Many immigrants in the Netherlands have poor Dutch language skills. They face problems in speaking and reading Dutch. Our paper investigates how these prob- lems affect their labor market performance in terms of employment, hours of work and wages. We find that for female immigrants language problems have signifi- cantly negative effects on hourly wages but not on employment probability and hours of work. For male immigrants language problems do not affect employment probability, hours of work or hourly wages

Approximate proximal algorithms for generalized variational inequalities with paramonotonicity and pseudomonotonicity

    Get PDF
AbstractWe propose an approximate proximal algorithm for solving generalized variational inequalities in Hilbert space. Extension to Bregman-function-based approximate proximal algorithm is also discussed. Weak convergence of these two algorithms are established under the paramonotonicity and pseudomonotonicity assumptions of the operators

    On the General Variational Inequality

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this paper, we investigate the general variational inequality which extends the classical variational inequality in finite dimensional spaces. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a solution of this problem are obtained. Some existence results are derived using the fixed point theory. Uniqueness of the solution is also discussed. Application of these existence results to the implicit complementarity problem is given

On integrability of the Yao-Zeng two-component short-pulse equation

We show how the Yao-Zeng system of coupled short-pulse equations is related to the original short-pulse equation and obtain the correct zero-curvature representation of the Yao-Zeng system via this relationship.Comment: 5 page

    Assessing the Quality of Actions

    Get PDF
While recent advances in computer vision have provided reliable methods to recognize actions in both images and videos, the problem of assessing how well people perform actions has been largely unexplored in computer vision. Since methods for assessing action quality have many real-world applications in healthcare, sports, and video retrieval, we believe the computer vision community should begin to tackle this challenging problem. To spur progress, we introduce a learning-based framework that takes steps towards assessing how well people perform actions in videos. Our approach works by training a regression model from spatiotemporal pose features to scores obtained from expert judges. Moreover, our approach can provide interpretable feedback on how people can improve their action. We evaluate our method on a new Olympic sports dataset, and our experiments suggest our framework is able to rank the athletes more accurately than a non-expert human. While promising, our method is still a long way to rivaling the performance of expert judges, indicating that there is significant opportunity in computer vision research to improve on this difficult yet important task.National Science Foundation (U.S.). Daily dialect-speaking and wages among native Dutch speakers

    Get PDF
Our paper studies the efects of daily dialect-speaking on hourly wages of native Dutch workers. The unconditional diference in median hourly wage between Standard Dutch speakers and dialect speakers is about 10% for males and 8% for females. Taking into account diferences in personal characteristics, family characteristics and geographical diferences, wage diferences are reduced with about 6%-points

The role of antiphase boundaries during ion sputtering and solid phase epitaxy of Si(001)

The Si(001) surface morphology during ion sputtering at elevated temperatures and solid phase epitaxy following ion sputtering at room temperature has been investigated using scanning tunneling microscopy. Two types of antiphase boundaries form on Si(001) surfaces during ion sputtering and solid phase epitaxy. One type of antiphase boundary, the AP2 antiphase boundary, contributes to the surface roughening. AP2 antiphase boundaries are stable up to 973K, and ion sputtering and solid phase epitaxy performed at 973K result in atomically flat Si(001) surfaces.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, to be published in Surface Scienc

    Thermal radiation processes

We discuss the different physical processes that are important to understand the thermal X-ray emission and absorption spectra of the diffuse gas in clusters of galaxies and the warm-hot intergalactic medium. The ionisation balance, line and continuum emission and absorption properties are reviewed and several practical examples are given that illustrate the most important diagnostic features in the X-ray spectra.Comment: 37 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in Space Science Reviews, special issue "Clusters of galaxies: beyond the thermal view", Editor J.S.
