This paper describes the FlySpeech speaker diarization system submitted to the second \textbf{M}ultimodal \textbf{I}nformation Based \textbf{S}peech \textbf{P}rocessing~(\textbf{MISP}) Challenge held in ICASSP 2022. We develop an end-to-end audio-visual speaker diarization~(AVSD) system, which consists of a lip encoder, a speaker encoder, and an audio-visual decoder. Specifically, to mitigate the degradation of diarization performance caused by separate training, we jointly train the speaker encoder and the audio-visual decoder. In addition, we leverage the large-data pretrained speaker extractor to initialize the speaker encoder

T0001 is the first mutant of etanercept with a higher affinity to tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) than etanercept. In order to investigate the safety and tolerability of T0001, a study was carried out in healthy Chinese subjects. A first-in-human, dose escalation study was conducted in healthy Chinese subjects. Fifty-six subjects were divided into six dose cohorts (10 mg, 20 mg, 35 mg, 50 mg, 65 mg and 75 mg) to receive a single subcutaneous injection of T0001. Safety and tolerability assessment were based on the records of vital signs, physical examinations, clinical laboratory tests, 12-lead electrocardiograms and adverse events (AEs). All subjects were in good compliance and none withdraw due to AEs. No serious AEs occurred. A total of twenty-three AEs in sixteen subjects were recorded, and eighteen of these AEs were believed to be related to T0001. The most frequently reported AEs were injection site reactions and white blood cell count increase. All these AEs were of mild to moderate intensity and most of them recovered spontaneously within 14 days. In this study, no dose-limiting toxicity was observed, and the maximum tolerated dose was identified as 75 mg. T0001 was considered safe and generally well tolerated at doses up to 75 mg in healthy Chinese volunteers

Finishing the euchromatic sequence of the human genome

The sequence of the human genome encodes the genetic instructions for human physiology, as well as rich information about human evolution. In 2001, the International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium reported a draft sequence of the euchromatic portion of the human genome. Since then, the international collaboration has worked to convert this draft into a genome sequence with high accuracy and nearly complete coverage. Here, we report the result of this finishing process. The current genome sequence (Build 35) contains 2.85 billion nucleotides interrupted by only 341 gaps. It covers ∼99% of the euchromatic genome and is accurate to an error rate of ∼1 event per 100,000 bases. Many of the remaining euchromatic gaps are associated with segmental duplications and will require focused work with new methods. The near-complete sequence, the first for a vertebrate, greatly improves the precision of biological analyses of the human genome including studies of gene number, birth and death. Notably, the human enome seems to encode only 20,000-25,000 protein-coding genes. The genome sequence reported here should serve as a firm foundation for biomedical research in the decades ahead

An Automated Power Evaluation Workbench for Triboelectric Nanogenerators

    No full text
Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have high potential in self-powered sensing and energy harvesting applications. In general, TENGs’ internal source resistance is high, and their output power varies under different load resistance values. Therefore, a resistance box is required to evaluate their energy harvesting performance and obtain the power curve under different load values. The load tuning process is usually performed by hand. This repetitive process is time-consuming and error-prone. Consequently, an Automated Power Evaluation Workbench (APEW) is developed, making the resistance switching and power measuring process program-controlled. The resistance value is resolved using the Octal decomposition principle. In addition, a resistance synthesis algorithm is proposed to alter the resistance value with a minimum step of 1 Ohm. The target resistance value is physically synthesized by relay switching, while digital lines control the relays. The proposed APEW is then evaluated experimentally, and the obtained results are compared with those of the traditional manual switching approach. It is deduced that the two power curves are almost identical. Therefore, it is believed that the proposed APEW will play a crucial role in TENG’s further development

Nanoscale avalanche photodiode with self-quenching and ultrahigh ultraviolet/visible rejection ratio

A 4H-SiC based separate-absorption-multiplication (SAM) avalanche photodiode with a nanoscale multiplication region and a bulk absorption region is proposed and its optoelectronic performance is modeled. The results show that the avalanche breakdown voltage of the device is found to be dependent on the illumination condition. This is attributed to the existence of an illumination-dependent hole potential well in the upper center of the absorption region. Based on the illumination-dependence of avalanche breakdown voltage, a self-quenching and an ultrahigh UV/visible rejection ratio have been realized in this structure. Massively Digitized Power Grid: Opportunities and Challenges of Use-inspired AI

This article presents a use-inspired perspective of the opportunities and challenges in a massively digitized power grid. It argues that the intricate interplay of data availability, computing capability, and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm development are the three key factors driving the adoption of digitized solutions in the power grid. The impact of these three factors on critical functions of power system operation and planning practices are reviewed and illustrated with industrial practice case studies. Open challenges and research opportunities for data, computing, and AI algorithms are articulated within the context of the power industry's tremendous decarbonization efforts

Dynamic Changes in Carbon Sequestration from Opencast Mining Activities and Land Reclamation in China’s Loess Plateau

Opencast coal mining causes serious damage to the natural landscape, resulting in the depletion of the carbon sequestration capacity in the mining activity. There are few studies on the variation of carbon sequestration capabilities caused by land use changes in opencast mining areas. This paper uses six images were used to quantify the changes in land use types from 1986 to 2015 in the Pingshuo mining area in northwest China. At the same time, used statistical analysis and mathematical models to study soil and vegetation carbon sequestration. Results indicate that the total carbon sequestration exhibits a significant downward trend from 4.58 × 106 Mg in 1986 to 3.78 × 106 Mg in 2015, with the decrease of soil carbon sequestration accounting for the largest proportion. The carbon sequestration of arable land accounted for 51% of the total carbon sequestration in the mining area, followed by grassland (31%) and forestland (18%). Land reclamation contributed to the greatest increase in carbon sequestration of arable land from 17,890.15 Mg (1986) to 27,837.95 Mg (2015). Additionally, the downward trend in the carbon sequestration capacity of the mining ecosystem was mitigated after 2010 as the positive effects of land reclamation gradually amplified over time and as the mining techniques were greatly optimized in recent years in the Pingshuo mining area. Thus, terrestrial carbon sequestration can be improved through land reclamation projects and optimized mining activities. These results can help guide the utilization of reclaimed land in the future

The aim was to investigate the surfactant protein B (SP-B) expression in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF ) of full-term neonates with respiratory distress syndrome (RD S). The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed to assess SP-B expression in BALF of 60 full-term neonates with RD S and 23 healthy neonates and correlation of SP-B level with RD S classification according to chest x-ray findings and PaO2/FiO2 before mechanical ventilation in neonates with RD S. The SP-B level was significantly lower in the RD S group (17.63±6.80 ng/mL) than in healthy neonates (103.95±6.38 ng/mL) (P<0.001). The SP-B level correlated positively with PaO2/ FiO2 before mechanical ventilation (r=0.838, P<0.001). Moreover, the lower the SP-B level, the more severe was the RD S as determined by chest x-ray (P<0.001). In conclusion, full-term neonates with RD S had reduced SP-B in BALF , which was related to the severity of RD S, suggesting that SP-B supplement may be an effective strategy in the treatment of RD S in full-term neonates.
