Comparison of daily and sub-daily SWAT models for daily streamflow simulation in the Upper Huai River Basin of China
Despite the significant role of precipitation in the hydrological cycle, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the impacts of the temporal resolution of rainfall inputs on the performance of SWAT (soil and water assessment tool) models in large-sized river basins. In this study, both daily and hourly rainfall observations at 28 rainfall stations were used as inputs to SWAT for daily streamflow simulation in the Upper Huai River Basin. Study results have demonstrated that the SWAT model with hourly rainfall inputs performed better than the model with daily rainfall inputs in daily streamflow simulation, primarily due to its better capability of simulating peak flows during the flood season. The sub-daily SWAT model estimated that 58% of streamflow was contributed by baseflow compared to 34 % estimated by the daily model. Using the future daily and three-hour precipitation projections under the RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 scenario as inputs, the sub-daily SWAT model predicted a larger amount of monthly maximum daily flow during the wet years than the daily model. The differences between the daily and sub-daily SWAT model simulation results indicated that temporal rainfall resolution could have much impact on the simulation of hydrological process, streamflow, and consequently pollutant transport by SWAT models. There is an imperative need for more studies to examine the effects of temporal rainfall resolution on the simulation of hydrological and water pollutant transport processes by SWAT in river basins of different environmental conditions
Enhancing thermoelectric figure-of-merit by low-dimensional electrical transport in phonon-glass crystals
Low-dimensional electronic and glassy phononic transport are two important
ingredients of highly-efficient thermoelectric material, from which two
branches of the thermoelectric research emerge. One focuses on controlling
electronic transport in the low dimension, while the other on multiscale phonon
engineering in the bulk. Recent work has benefited much from combining these
two approaches, e.g., phonon engineering in low-dimensional materials. Here, we
propose to employ the low-dimensional electronic structure in bulk phonon-glass
crystal as an alternative way to increase the thermoelectric efficiency.
Through first-principles electronic structure calculation and classical
molecular dynamics simulation, we show that the - stacking
Bis-Dithienothiophene molecular crystal is a natural candidate for such an
approach. This is determined by the nature of its chemical bonding. Without any
optimization of the material parameter, we obtain a maximum room-temperature
figure of merit, , of at optimal doping, thus validating our idea.Comment: Nano Lett.201
Elastic-plastic endochronic constitutive model of 0Crl7Ni4Cu4Nb stainless steels
We presented an elastic-plastic endochronic constitutive model of 0Crl7Ni4Cu4Nb stainless steel based on the plastic endochronic theory (which does not need the yield surface) and experimental stress-strain curves. The key feature of the model is that it can precisely describe the relation of stress and strain under various loading histories, including uniaxial tension, cyclic loading-unloading, cyclic asymmetric-stress axial tension and compression, and cyclic asymmetric-stress axial tension and compression. The effects of both mean stress and amplitude of stress on hysteresis loop based on the elastic-plastic endochronic constitutive model were investigated. Compared with the experimental and calculated results, it is demonstrated that there was a good agreement between the model and the experiments. Therefore, the elastic-plastic endochronic constitutive model provides a method for the accurate prediction of mechanical behaviors of 0Crl7Ni4Cu4Nb stainless steel subjected to various loadings
Hyper-IgE Syndrome with STAT3 Mutation: A Case Report in Mainland China
Hyper-immunoglobulin E syndromes (HIES) including compound primary immunodeficiency and nonimmunological abnormalities are characterized by extremely high serum IgE levels, eosinophilia, eczema, susceptibility to infections, distinctive facial appearance, retention of deciduous teeth, cyst-forming pneumonias, and skeletal abnormalities. Itis reported that some cases of familial HIES are relative to autosomal dominant or recessive inheritance, but most cases are sporadic, and result from mutations in the human signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) gene. In this paper, we firstly report a young man diagnosed of Hyper-IgE syndrome with STAT3 mutation in Mainland China, and investigate the autosomal dominant trait of his family members
