Integrated Platform for Whole Building HVAC System Automation and Simulation
Integrated optimal control strategies can reduce the overall building HVAC system energy consumption as well as improved air quality resulting in improved health and cognitive function for the occupants. However, it is time consuming to quantitatively evaluate the design-intended building HVAC automation system performance before on-site deployment, because: 1) the building and HVAC system design specs are in 2D or 3D drawings that require significant efforts to develop the system steady state or dynamic models based on them; 2) the building HVAC control strategies are designed and implemented in building automation (BA) system that could not smoothly connect with the building HVAC system steady state or dynamic models for performance evaluation through close-loop simulation. This paper presents the tool chain of an integrated simulation platform for building HVAC system automation and simulation as well as its implementation in a real case. First, building information from a Revit BIM model is automatically parsed to an EnergyPlus building energy model. Second, the HVAC system model is quickly populated with a scalable HVAC system library in Dymola. Third, the HVAC controls are developed in WebCTRL, a building HVAC automation system by Automated Logic Corporation (ALC). Finally, both the building energy model and HVAC system model are wrapped up as Functional Mock-up Units (FMU) and connected with embedded simulator in WebCTRL to perform close-loop building automation system performance simulation. A real case study, a chiller plant system in a hotel building, is conducted to verify the scalability and benefit of the developed tool chain. The case study demonstrates the values in identifying both HVAC automation system design-intended control issues and improvement areas for integrated optimal controls. This platform enables testing of building HVAC control strategies before on-site deployment, which reduces the labor and time required for building HVAC control development-to-market process and ensure the delivering quality. Furthermore, this platform can be calibrated with metered real-time data from the specific building HVAC system and serve as its âdigital twinâ that empowers the system fault detection, diagnostics and predictive maintenance
Size Effect on the Behavior of Thermal Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Roller Pairs
In order to investigate the size effect on elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of roller pairs, complete numerical solutions for both the Newtonian fluid and the Eyring fluid thermal EHL problems of roller pairs under steady state conditions have been achieved. It can be seen that there is no size effect on the isothermal EHL performance; however, there is a very strong size effect on the thermal EHL performance. Results show that the term of shearing heat is the most important factor for the film temperature when the size of a contact changes. Comparison between the Newtonian solution and the Eyring solution has been made under some operating conditions. It is interesting to see that the effective viscosity of the Eyring fluid is nearly the same as that of the Newtonian fluid when the size of a contact is large enough. The non-Newtonian effect, therefore, can be ignored when the size of a contact is very large. It is equally interesting to see that the thermal effect can be ignored when the size of a contact is very small. In addition, the influence of the velocity parameter, the load parameter, and the slide-roll ratio on the lubricating performance for various sizes of contacts has been investigated
Effects of Calcination Temperature on Preparation of Boron-Doped TiO 2
Boron-doped TiO2 photocatalyst was prepared by a modified sol-gel method. Being calcinated at temperatures from 300°C to 600°C, all the 3% B-TiO2 samples presented anatase TiO2 phase, and TiO2 crystallite sizes were calculated to be 7.6, 10.3, 13.6, and 27.3ânm, respectively. The samples were composed of irregular particles with rough surfaces in the size range within 3âÎŒm. Ti atoms were in an octahedron skeleton and existed mainly in the form of Ti4+, while the Ti-O-B structure was the main boron existing form in the 3% B-TiO2 sample. When calcination temperature increased from 300°C to 600°C, specific surface area decreased sharply from 205.6âm2/g to 31.8âm2/g. The average pore diameter was 10.53ânm with accumulative pore volume of 0.244âmL/g for the 3% B-TiO2 sample calcinated at 400°C, which performed optimal photocatalytic degradation activity. After 90âmin of UV-light irradiation, degradation rate of methyl orange was 96.7% on the optimized photocatalyst

Big data, big challenges: risk management of financial market in the digital economy
Purposeâ The purpose of the research is to assess the risk of the financial market in the digital economy through the quantitative analysis model in the big data era. Itâs a big challenge for the government to carry out financial market risk management in the big data era.
Design/methodology/approachâ In this study, a generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity-vector autoregression (GARCH-VaR) model is constructed to analyze the big data financial market in the digital economy. Additionally, the correlation test and stationarity test are carried out to construct the best fit model and get the corresponding VaR value.
Findingsâ Owing to the conditional heteroscedasticity, the index return series shows the leptokurtic and fat tail phenomenon. According to the AIC (Akaike Information Criterion), the fitting degree of the GARCH model is measured. The AIC value difference of the models under the three distributions is not obvious, and the differences between them can be ignored.
Originality/valueâ Using the GARCH-VaR model can better measure and predict the risk of the big data finance market and provide a reliable and quantitative basis for the current technology-driven regulation in the digital economy
The effects of high-intensity interval exercise and hypoxia on cognition in sedentary young adults
© 2019 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Background and Objectives: Limited research has evaluated the effects of acute exercise on cognition under different conditions of inspired oxygenation. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the effects of high-intensity interval exercise (HIE) under normoxia (inspired fraction of oxygen (FIO2): 0.209) and moderate hypoxia (FIO2: 0.154) on cognitive function. Design: A single-blinded cross-over design was used to observe the main effects of exercise and oxygen level, and interaction effects on cognitive task performance. Methods: Twenty inactive adults (10 males and 10 females, 19â27 years old) performed a cognitive task (i.e., the Go/No-Go task) before and immediately after an acute bout of HIE under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. The HIE comprised 10 repetitions of 6 s high-intensity cycling against 7.5% body weight interspersed with 30 s passive recovery. Heart rate, peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) and rating of perceived exertion were monitored. Results: The acute bout of HIE did not affect the reaction time (p = 0.204, η2 = 0.083) but the accuracy rate decreased significantly after HIE under both normoxic and hypoxic conditions (p = 0.001, η2 = 0.467). Moreover, moderate hypoxia had no influence either on reaction time (p = 0.782, η2 = 0.004) or response accuracy (p = 0.972, η2 \u3c 0.001). Conclusions: These results indicate that an acute session of HIE may impair response accuracy immediately post-HIE, without sacrificing reaction time. Meanwhile moderate hypoxia was found to have no adverse effect on cognitive function in inactive young adults, at least in the present study
Characteristic of fixed abrasive polishing for fused silica in anhydrous environment
Abstract(#br)In order to overcome the randomness of free abrasive polishing (CMP), abrasive waste and the resulting hydration layer, this paper presents a fixed abrasive polishing technique in the anhydrous environment. We have achieved a stable polishing wheel sintering process. The pellet we made have applied to fused silica polishing.(#br)It is found that the surface profile accuracy and roughness convergence speed are significantly improved comparing with the free abrasive polishing, and the pellet did not break and wears evenly. The influences of changing parameters including pressure, rotation speed on the material removal rate and surface roughness is examined. Removal rate does not increase with applied pressure and rotation speed, which is inconsistent with Prestonâs formula. The heat generated in machine process is paramount parameters determining removal efficiency. In order to get the most suitable processing temperature, We employed in-situ infrared camera and finite element analysis to test the temperature, which clarify the material removal does not increase with applied pressure and rotation speed in dry fixed abrasive polishing. Further, for testing the properties and stability of the pellet, the chips and polishing wheel were chemical analyzed using EDS and XRD, the results show a probable mechanism
Severe hypoxia does not offset the benefits of exercise on cognitive function in sedentary young women
© 2019 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland. Purpose: To examine the effect of acute moderate-intensity continuous exercise performed under normobaric severe hypoxia on cognition, compared to sea-level normoxia. Methods: Thirty healthy inactive women randomly performed two experimental trials separated by at least three days but at approximately the same time of day. Executive functions were measured during the follicular stage via an interference control task before (rest) and during exercise with 45% peak power output under normobaric normoxia (PIO 2 = 150 mmHg, FIO 2 = 0.21), and (2) hypoxia (PIO 2 = 87 mmHg, FIO 2 = 0.12, simulated at an altitude of 4000 m). Reaction time (RT), accuracy rate (AC), heart rate, ratings of perceived exertion, and peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO 2 ) were collected before and during exercise. Results: RT (p \u3c 0.05, η 2p = 0.203) decreased during moderate exercise when compared at rest, while a short bout of severe hypoxia improved RT (p \u3c 0.05, η 2p = 0.134). Exercise and hypoxia had no effects on AC (p \u3e 0.05). No significant associations were found between the changes of RT and SpO 2 under the conditions of normoxia and hypoxia (p \u3e 0.05). Conclusions: At the same phase of the menstrual cycle, a short bout of severe hypoxia simulated at 4000 m altitude caused no impairment at rest. RT during moderate exercise ameliorated in normoxia and severe hypoxia, suggesting that both exercise and short-term severe hypoxia have benefits on cognitive function in sedentary young women
Li2O-Reinforced Solid Electrolyte Interphase on Three-Dimensional Sponges for Dendrite-Free Lithium Deposition
Lithium (Li) metal, with ultra-high theoretical capacity and low electrochemical potential, is the ultimate anode for next-generation Li metal batteries. However, the undesirable Li dendrite growth usually results in severe safety hazards and low Coulombic efficiency. In this work, we design a three-dimensional CuO@Cu submicron wire sponge current collector with high mechanical strength SEI layer dominated by Li2O during electrochemical reaction process. The 3D CuO@Cu current collector realizes an enhanced CE of above 91% for an ultrahigh current of 10 mA cmâ2 after 100 cycles, and yields decent cycle stability at 5 C for the full cell. The exceptional performances of CuO@Cu submicron wire sponge current collector hold promise for further development of the next-generation metal-based batteries
