    An Empirical Study of Evaluation Index System and Measure Method on City’s Soft Power: 17 Cities in Shandong Province

    Based on the research of city’s soft power at home and abroad, the current study was intended to build an evaluation index system and analyzed the city’s soft power of 17cities in Shandong Province in 2010. Both the qualitative and quantitative methods were adopted. Frequency statistical method was used to build the evaluation index system of city’s soft power, and AHP and CRITIC methods were used to determine index weight. By using the evaluation system, data from Shandong 2010 statistic yearbook and SPSS18.0, the researchers analyzed the soft power of 17 cities in Shandong province, and finally constructed a measure model for city’s soft power. Results indicated that this model is practically viable and consistent with the real situation of the soft power of 17cities in Shandong Province. It is the researchers hope that this measure model would provide reference for government’s decision-making in the development of promoting urbanization

    The ALISE Project: Design of an Online Questionnaire for Integration and Processing of Statistical Information

    Each year the Association of Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) publishes the ALISE Statistical Report. The report contains statistical information on library and information science programs that are accredited by the American Library Association (ALA). The current process for collecting and compiling statistical data from schools involves many manual tasks. Among these are paper questionnaire submission via standard mail, input of data into several databases for archiving purposes, and compilation of statistics by individual authors of the report's five chapters. This paper describes the development of an online questionnaire system, to collect the statistical data and automate the process of data input, data update and data storage. A usability study was also conducted to gather feedback from users and to improve the user interface

    Global SH-wave propagation in a 2D whole Moon model using the parallel hybrid PSM/FDM method

    International audienceWe present numerical modeling of SH-wave propagation for the recently proposed whole Moon model and try to improve our understanding of lunar seismic wave propagation. We use a hybrid PSM/FDM method on staggered grids to solve the wave equations and implement the calculation on a parallel PC cluster to improve the computing efficiency. Features of global SH-wave propagation are firstly discussed for a 100-km shallow and 900-km deep moonquakes, respectively. Effects of frequency range and lateral variation of crust thickness are then investigated with various models. Our synthetic waveforms are finally compared with observed Apollo data to show the features of wave propagation that were produced by our model and those not reproduced by our models. Our numerical modeling show that the low-velocity upper crust plays significant role in the development of reverberating wave trains. Increasing frequency enhances the strength and duration of the reverberations. Surface multiples dominate wavefields for shallow event. Core-mantle reflections can be clearly identified for deep event at low frequency. The layered whole Moon model and the low-velocity upper crust produce the reverberating wave trains following each phases consistent with observation. However, more realistic Moon model should be considered in order to explain the strong and slow decay scattering between various phases shown on observation data

    A Crucial Role of IL-17 and IFN-γ during Acute Rejection of Peripheral Nerve Xenotransplantation in Mice

    Nerve injuries causing segmental loss require nerve grafting. However, autografts and allografts have limitations for clinical use. Peripheral nerve xenotransplantation has become an area of great interest in clinical surgery research as an alternative graft strategy. However, xenotransplant rejection is severe with cellular immunity, and Th1 cells play an important role in the process. To better understand the process of rejection, we used peripheral nerve xenografts from rats to mice and found that mononuclear cells expressing IFN-γ and IL-17 infiltrated around the grafts, and IFN-γ and IL-17 producing CD4+ and CD8+ T cells increased during the process of acute rejection. The changes of IL-4 level had no significant difference between xenotransplanted group and sham control group. The rejection of xenograft was significantly prevented after the treatment of IL-17 and IFN-γ neutralizing antibodies. These data suggest that Th17 cells contribute to the acute rejection process of peripheral nerve xenotransplant in addition to Th1 cells

    Increased Numbers of NK Cells, NKT-Like Cells, and NK Inhibitory Receptors in Peripheral Blood of Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

    T cells and B cells participate in the pathogenesis of COPD. Currently, NK cells and NKT cells have gained increasing attention. In the present study, 19 COPD patients and 12 healthy nonsmokers (HNS) were recruited, and their pulmonary function was assessed. The frequencies of CD3+ T, CD4+ T, CD8+ T, B, NK, and NKT-like cells were determined using flow cytometry. The frequencies of spontaneous and inducible IFN-γ+ or CD107a+ NK and NKT-like cells as well as activating or inhibitory receptors were also detected. The potential association of lymphocyte subsets with disease severity was further analyzed. Significantly decreased numbers of CD3+ and CD4+ T cells, and the CD4+/CD8+ ratio, but increased numbers of CD3−CD56+ NK and CD3+CD56+ NKT-like cells were observed in COPD patients compared to HNS. The frequencies of inducible IFN-γ-secreting NK and NKT-like cells were less in COPD patients. The frequencies of CD158a and CD158b on NK cells and CD158b on NKT-like cells were greater. The frequency of CD158b+ NK cells was negatively correlated with FEV1% prediction and FEV1/FVC. Our data indicate that COPD patients have immune dysfunction, and higher frequencies of inhibitory NK cells and NKT-like cells may participate in the pathogenesis of COPD
