Ectopic splenic tissue in the testis: a case report

Splenogonadal fusion is a rare congenital anomaly that has been encountered in all age groups. It is defined as an abnormal connection between spleen and gonad or mesonephros derivatives. We report a case of splenogonadal fusion which was diagnosed incidentally in a 38-year-old man with a history of infertility. This rare entity should be considered in the differential diagnosis of testicular masses.Key Words: Splenogonadal fusion, testicular mass

Case Report: An Epididymal Abscess Which Imitates Epididiymal Tumor Radiologically and Clinically

DergiPark: 379047tmsjAims: Testicular and extratesticular masses can be found in scrotum. Although most of those masses are intratesticular, some develop from paratesticular tissues. In this case report, we analyzed the results of a patient admitted to the hospital complaining of a scroted mass causing pain. Case Report: Epididymectomy was performed to a 5-year-old man patient with an expanding scrotal mass which was causing pain. After running some tests, performing initial investigations like scrotal ultrasound scan and MR, there were still doubts about the risk of malignancy. To be sure about the mass whether it is a tumor or an infection, epididymectomy was decided to be performed. The day after the operation, the patient was discharged with no complications. His complaints eased after the operation. Conclusion: The scrotum is the sac that contains the testicles. A scrotal mass can be originated from testicles or paratesticular tissues. Although 3% of all solid extratesticular masses are malignant, previous studies have shown that the malignancy rate can raise up to 16%. That’s why scrotal masses which are not certainly benign must not be ignored and epididymectomy should be performed

If Deficits are Not the Culprit, What Determines Indian Interest Rates? An Evaluation Using the Maximum Entropy Bootstrap Method

This paper challenges two clichés that have dominated the macroeconometric debates in India. One relates to the neoclassical view that deficits are detrimental to growth, as they increase the rate of interest, and in turn displace the interest-rate-sensitive components of private investment. The second relates to the assumption of "stationarity" - which has dominated the statistical inference in time-series econometrics for a long time - as well as the emphasis on unit root-type testing, which involves detrending, or differencing, of the series to achieve stationarity in time-series econometric models. The paper examines the determinants of rates of interest in India for the periods 1980-81 and 2011-12, using the maximum entropy bootstrap (Meboot) methodology proposed in Vinod 1985 and 2004 (and developed extensively in Vinod 2006, Vinod and Lopez-de-Lacalle 2009, and Vinod 2010 and 2013). The practical appeal of Meboot is that it does not necessitate all pretests, such as structural change and unit root-type testing, which involve detrending the series to achieve stationarity, which in turn is problematic for evolutionary short time series. It also solves problems related to situations where stationarity assumptions are difficult to verify - for instance, in mixtures of I(0) and nonstationary I(d) series, where the order of integration can be different for different series. Crowds in or crowds out? The effect of foreign direct investment on domestic investment in Chinese cities

This study investigates the empirical relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and domestic investment (DI) in China using a comprehensive city-level panel over the period from 2003 to 2011. System-generalized method-of-moment estimation reveals mixed results. At the national level, FDI neither crowds in nor crowds out DI, indicating a neutral FDI–DI nexus. However, when the full sample is segmented by geographical topology, a positive and significant FDI–DI nexus can be found in eastern and, to a lesser extent, central cities. A negative, although insignificant, association is reported among western cities. Further, the empirical nexus is conditional on several local absorptive capacities including human capital, financial development, and institutional quality. These findings suggest that a region-based FDI strategy in general and local governments should strengthen their absorptive capacities to fully internalize FDI spillovers

Population Genetic Analysis of Alpacas Huacaya (Vicugna Pacos) of the Puno Region using SSR

Las alpacas en el Perú se ubican en las zonas alto andinas a más de 4000 msnm y son la principal fuente de ingresos de las comunidades. Debido a esto, la Sociedad Peruana de Criadores de Alpacas Registrada (SPAR) de Macusani con el objetivo de mejorar la productividad en la región, seleccionaron reproductores basados en rasgos fenotípicos, formando dos núcleos de reproducción: Munay Paqocha y Fundo Itita; sin embargo, no existe información de la variabilidad genética de sus rebaños, además de no contar con registro genealógicos confiables; información necesaria para adecuadas estrategias de mejoramiento y de conservación. Por otro lado, los microsatélites (SSR) son una herramienta molecular altamente informativas y útil en estos casos (Aranguren-Mendéz et.al., 2001). Synovial Hemangioma of the Knee: A Rare Pathology

A 77 year old female patient was admitted to our clinic with a history of swelling in the right knee. After surgical excision of the mass, the pathological examination was found to be consistent with the synovial hemangioma of the knee which has been rarely reported up till now.
