    Cloaking and imaging at the same time

    In this letter, we propose a conceptual device to perform subwavelength imaging with positive refraction. The key to this proposal is that a drain is no longer a must for some cases. What's more, this device is an isotropic omnidirectional cloak with a perfect electric conductor hiding region and shows versatile illusion optical effects.     Reconstruct gene regulatory network using slice pattern model

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Gene expression time series array data has become a useful resource for investigating gene functions and the interactions between genes. However, the gene expression arrays are always mixed with noise, and many nonlinear regulatory relationships have been omitted in many linear models. Because of those practical limitations, inference of gene regulatory model from expression data is still far from satisfactory.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>In this study, we present a model-based computational approach, Slice Pattern Model (SPM), to identify gene regulatory network from time series gene expression array data. In order to estimate performances of stability and reliability of our model, an artificial gene network is tested by the traditional linear model and SPM. SPM can handle the multiple transcriptional time lags and more accurately reconstruct the gene network. Using SPM, a 17 time-series gene expression data in yeast cell cycle is retrieved to reconstruct the regulatory network. Under the reliability threshold, <it>θ </it>= 55%, 18 relationships between genes are identified and transcriptional regulatory network is reconstructed. Results from previous studies demonstrate that most of gene relationships identified by SPM are correct.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>With the help of pattern recognition and similarity analysis, the effect of noise has been limited in SPM method. At the same time, genetic algorithm is introduced to optimize parameters of gene network model, which is performed based on a statistic method in our experiments. The results of experiments demonstrate that the gene regulatory model reconstructed using SPM is more stable and reliable than those models coming from traditional linear model.</p

    \tau^- \to \mu^- \pi^0(\eta,\eta') Decays in New Physics Scenarios beyond the Standard Model

    The semileptonic decays τμM(M=π0,η,η)\tau^- \to \mu^- M (M=\pi^0,\eta,\eta') could be sensitive probe for new physics scenarios with lepton flavor violation(LFV). Motivated by the recent Belle measurement, we investigate these decays in type III two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM III), R-parity violating supersymmetric models(RPV SUSY) and flavor changing ZZ' models with family non-universal couplings, respectively. In these new physics scenarios, there are LFV couplings at tree level. Our results have shown that the decays are very sensitive to the LFV couplings and could be enhanced to the present experimental sensitivities. We have derived strong bounds on relevant couplings of these models, which may be useful for further relevant studies.Comment: 18 pages, 7 eps figures.     Identification of transcription factor and microRNA binding sites in responsible to fetal alcohol syndrome

    This is a first report, using our MotifModeler informatics program, to simultaneously identify transcription factor (TF) and microRNA (miRNA) binding sites from gene expression microarray data. Based on the assumption that gene expression is controlled by combinatorial effects of transcription factors binding in the 5'-upstream regulatory region and miRNAs binding in the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR), we developed a model for (1) predicting the most influential cis-acting elements under a given biological condition, and (2) estimating the effects of those elements on gene expression levels. The regulatory regions, TF and miRNA, which mediate the differential genes expression in fetal alcohol syndrome were unknown; microarray data from alcohol exposure paradigm was used. The model predicted strong inhibitory effects of 5' cis-acting elements and stimulatory effects of 3'-UTR under alcohol treatment. Current predictive model derived a key hypothesis for the first time a novel role of miRNAs in gene expression changes associated with abnormal mouse embryo development after alcohol exposure. This suggests that disturbance of miRNA functions may contribute to the alcohol-induced developmental deficiencies

    Adiabatic spin pumping through a quantum dot with a single orbital level

    We investigate an adiabatic spin pumping through a quantum dot with a single orbital energy level under the Zeeman effect. Electron pumping is produced by two periodic time dependent parameters, a magnetic field and a difference of the dot-lead coupling between the left and right barriers of the dot. The maximum charge transfer per cycle is found to be ee, the unit charge in the absence of a localized moment in the dot. Pumped charge and spin are different, and spin pumping is possible without charge pumping in a certain situation. They are tunable by changing the minimum and maximum value of the magnetic field.Comment: RevTeX4, 5 pages, 3 figure

    Nonlinear voltage dependence of shot noise

    The current noise in a multi-probe mesoscopic conductor can have a nonlinear dependence on the strength of driving bias voltage. This paper presents a theoretical formulation for the nonlinear noise spectra. We pay special attention to maintain gauge invariance at the nonlinear level. At small but finite voltages, explicit expressions for nonlinear noise spectra, expanded order by order in the bias, have been derived. In the wideband limit, a closed form solution of the noise spectra for finite voltages is obtained

    Carbon nanotube-based quantum pump in the presence of superconducting lead

    Parametric electron pump through superconductor-carbon-nanotube based molecular devices was investigated. It is found that a dc current, which is assisted by resonant Andreev reflection, can be pumped out from such molecular device by a cyclic variation of two gate voltages near the nanotube. The pumped current can be either positive or negative under different system parameters. Due to the Andreev reflection, the pumped current has the double peak structure around the resonant point. The ratio of pumped current of N-SWNT-S system to that of N-SWNT-N system (I^{NS}/I^N) is found to approach four in the weak pumping regime near the resonance when there is exactly one resonant level at Fermi energy inside the energy gap. Numerical results confirm that in the weak pumping regime the pumped current is proportional to the square of the pumping amplitude V_p, but in the strong pumping regime the pumped current has the linear relation with V_p. Our numerical results also predict that pumped current can be obtained more easily by using zigzag tube than by using armchair tube

    Dissipation and noise in adiabatic quantum pumps

    We investigate the distribution function, the heat flow and the noise properties of an adiabatic quantum pump for an arbitrary relation of pump frequency ω\omega and temperature. To achieve this we start with the scattering matrix approach for ac-transport. This approach leads to expressions for the quantities of interest in terms of the side bands of particles exiting the pump. The side bands correspond to particles which have gained or lost a modulation quantum ω\hbar \omega. We find that our results for the pump current, the heat flow and the noise can all be expressed in terms of a parametric emissivity matrix. In particular we find that the current cross-correlations of a multiterminal pump are directly related a to a non-diagonal element of the parametric emissivity matrix.     Combining three mechanisms, we reanalysis processes of BηK(K),ηK(K)B \to \eta^{\prime} K(K^*),\eta K(K^*) and calculate their branching ratios. The results are compared with other mechanisms in the literature.
