Thermodynamic Properties of Ferromagnetic Mott- Insulators GaV4S8
We present the results of the magnetic and specific heat measurements on V4
tetrahedral-cluster compound GaV4S8 between 2 to 300K. We find two transitions
related to a structural change at 42K followed by ferromagnetic order at 12K on
cooling. Remarkably similar properties were previously reported for the cluster
compounds of Mo4. These compounds show an extremely high density of low energy
excitations in their electronic properties. We explain this behavior in a
cluster compound as due to the reduction of coulomb repulsion among electrons
that occupy highly degenerate orbits of different clusters.Comment: To be publish in Physica
Sensitivity of plume descriptors of a Gaussian plume model to deposition and source elevation
Plume descriptors, constituting the first four moments of the concentration distribution, have been obtained for a Gaussian deposition plume model. Analytical expressions for the plume descriptors (centroid, variance, skewness and kurtosis) for point source ground-level and elevated releases are derived from a solution to the
advection-diffusion equation accounting for deposition at the ground surface. A sensitivity analysis has been carried out to investigate the effect of deposition velocity and source height on the plume descriptors. For the particular case of a fully reflected Gaussian plume from a
ground-level source, the centroid and the standard deviation have been found to vary as square root of
downwind distance whereas skewness and kurtosis are independent of downwind distance, the approximate values being 0.995 for skewness and 3.87 for kurtosis
Potency test of a rape accused in India – Rationale, problems and suggestions in light of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013
AbstractIndian legal system makes it mandatory to medically examine any accused of rape as well as other forms of sexual assault. Accused is brought in the police custody for conducting medical examination which includes general physical examination, potency test and evidence collection. The medical examination report of the accused is labeled as the “POTENCY TEST REPORT”. As per the changed definition of rape after Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013, potency test stands irrelevant in rape cases because the changed law does not require peno-vaginal intercourse to call it as rape. However, even after the change in definition of rape and laws related to it, potency test is still a mandatory part of medical examination of accused. Displeasure about the same has also been raised by a fast track court of Delhi. In this paper, we have discussed the rationale of potency test of sexual assault in light of Criminal Law Amendment Act (2013), court judgment and other available literature
A report on the occurrence of Bangana dero (Hamilton, 1822) from Deepor beel (Ramsar site no. 1207), Brahmaputra valley, Assam
Deepor beel (Latitude: 26°05?26??N to 26°09?26?? N; Longitude: 90°36' E to 90°41?25?? E) located in Kamrup district, Assam is a large (water spread area of 589 ha) natural wetland and a Ramsar site of international importance (Site number 1207 declared in 2002) having enormous biological and environmental importance. The wetland receives water from surface run-off as well as from two hill streams (Basistha and Kalamoni) and drains into River Brahmaputra, through a small rivulet (Khanajan). The beel supports a number of endemic endangered and threatened animals and plants that are included under IUCN red-list. Past studies indicated the occurrence of 67 fin-fish species in the beel. In a recent survey conducted by us, the beel Bangana dero (Synonyms: Cyprinus dero/ Labeo dero), a cyprinid fish, was collected for the first time from the beel. We collected as many as 28 specimens of B. dero from the beel during October 2016. The total length of the reported specimens ranged from 8.77 - 10.14 cm and weight ranged from 6.74 - 10.61 g. The length-weight relationship of the species was worked out as W = 0.074*L2.103. B. dero reportedly inhabits upland rivers, torrential hill-streams; adults migrate to warm downstream regions during the winter season (December-February). Thus, the occurrence of this species in Deepor beel indicates its possible downstream migration from one or both the feeder rivers (Basistha and Kalamoni) or migration from Brahmaputra River through its connecting channel.
ECONOMIC DIVERSIFICATION: AN INSIGHT INTO SUSTAINABLE AND INCLUSIVE AGRICULTURE WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO PAKISTAN
Crop diversification is an important step to deal with the challenges of present and future faced today by agriculture economies. Population explosion in agriculture economies surpassed carrying capacity of resources so endangering inclusion. Our research on economic diversification and government reform measure particularly in agriculture is to deal with sustainability of agriculture economy like Pakistan. The main objective of this paper is to analyze how economic diversification and land reform can prove to be a milestone in tackling the challenges faced by agriculture economy. In order to perform numerical and qualitative analysis of primary and secondary data, the analysis is shown through the SPSS Software. As a result, it was known that through diversification and land reforms, Pakistan's agricultural economy will be strengthened. At the end of the paper, some effective suggestion regarding inclusive agriculture model have been given, which will be important in achieving the said objectives
ANN-based energy reconstruction procedure for TACTIC gamma-ray telescope and its comparison with other conventional methods
The energy estimation procedures employed by different groups, for
determining the energy of the primary -ray using a single atmospheric
Cherenkov imaging telescope, include methods like polynomial fitting in SIZE
and DISTANCE, general least square fitting and look-up table based
interpolation. A novel energy reconstruction procedure, based on the
utilization of Artificial Neural Network (ANN), has been developed for the
TACTIC atmospheric Cherenkov imaging telescope. The procedure uses a 3:30:1 ANN
configuration with resilient backpropagation algorithm to estimate the energy
of a -ray like event on the basis of its image SIZE, DISTANCE and
zenith angle. The new ANN-based energy reconstruction method, apart from
yielding an energy resolution of 26%, which is comparable to that of
other single imaging telescopes, has the added advantage that it considers
zenith angle dependence as well. Details of the ANN-based energy estimation
procedure along with its comparative performance with other conventional energy
reconstruction methods are presented in the paper and the results indicate that
amongst all the methods considered in this work, ANN method yields the best
results. The performance of the ANN-based energy reconstruction has also been
validated by determining the energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula in the energy
range 1-16 TeV, as measured by the TACTIC telescope.Comment: 23pages, 9 figures Accepted for publication in NIM
