    Background: OSCC is one of the most common malignancies and numerous clinical agents currently applied in combinative chemotherapy. Here we reported a novel therapeutic strategy, SAHA and DDP-loaded PECE (SAHA-DDP/PECE), can improve the therapeutic effects of intratumorally chemotherapy on OSCC cell xenografts. Objective/Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the SAHA-DDP/PECE in situ controlled drug delivery system on OSCC cell xenografts. Methods: A biodegradable and thermosensitive hydrogel was successfully developed to load SAHA and DDP. Tumorbeared mice were intratumorally administered with SAHA-DDP/PECE at 50 mg/kg (SAHA) +2 mg/kg (DDP) in 100 ul PECE hydrogel every two weeks, SAHA-DDP at 50 mg/kg(SAHA) +2 mg/kg(DDP) in NS, 2 mg/kg DDP solution, 50 mg/kg SAHA solution, equal volume of PECE hydrogel, or equal volume of NS on the same schedule, respectively. The antineoplastic actions of SAHA and DDP alone and in combination were evaluated using the determination of tumor volume, immunohistochemistry, western blot, and TUNEL analysis. Results: The hydrogel system was a free-flowing sol at 10uC, become gel at body temperature, and could sustain more than 14 days in situ. SAHA-DDP/PECE was subsequently injected into tumor OSCC tumor-beared mice. The results demonstrated that such a strategy as this allows the carrier system to show a sustained release of SAHA and DDP in vivo, and coul

    Metamaterial Applicator for Hyperthermia Cancer Treatment Procedure: Overview Study

    This paper presents an overview of metamaterial slabs or lens as an integrated structure for applicators used in hyperthermia cancer treatment procedure. Hyperthermia treatment procedure (HTP) is a new technique that exposes a cancerous tissue by increasing tissue temperature until 41 °C to 45 °C at a certain period with electromagnetic radiation. Based on the previous study, by moving the microwave sources relative to the metamaterial (MTM) lenses from a tumor/cancer phantom alters the concentration of heating within biological tissue. In this paper, the overview of a metamaterial study on HTP from 2009 to 2019 was carried out. This study indicated that the left-handed metamaterial (LHM) lens was observed to be able to improve the focusing capabilities of HTP on the treated tissue. However, a further study is significantly required to provide different focus position distances on the treated tissue for different stages of cancer. Therefore, a modified HTP applicator integration with an MTM lens structure was proposed. It is aimed to improve focus position distance on the treated tissue and to reduce unwanted hot-spots on surrounding healthy tissues simultaneously. The proposed modified structure was presented in this paper. Specific absorption rate (SAR) simulation was carried out with SEMCAD X 14.8.4 to obtain a SAR distribution for determining penetration depth and focusing position distance on the treated tissu

    Background To identify social factors determining the frequency of community health service (CHS) utilization among CHS users in China. Methods Nationwide cross-sectional surveys were conducted in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. A total of 86,116 CHS visitors selected from 35 cities were interviewed. Descriptive analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis were employed to analyze characteristics of CHS users, frequency of CHS utilization, and the socio-demographic and socio-economic factors influencing frequency of CHS utilization. Results Female and senior CHS clients were more likely to make 3–5 and ≥6 CHS visits (as opposed to 1–2 visits) than male and young clients, respectively. CHS clients with higher education were less frequent users than individuals with primary education or less in 2008 and 2009; in later surveys, CHS clients with higher education were the more frequent users. The association between frequent CHS visits and family income has changed significantly between 2008 and 2011. In 2011, income status did not have a discernible effect on the likelihood of making ≥6 CHS visits, and it only had a slight effect on making 3–5 CHS visits. Conclusion CHS may play an important role in providing primary health care to meet the demands of vulnerable populations in China. Over time, individuals with higher education are increasingly likely to make frequent CHS visits than individuals with primary school education or below. The gap in frequency of CHS utilization among different economic income groups decreased from 2008 to 2011

    Resonances in J/ψ→ϕπ+π−J/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K−\phi K^+K^-

    A partial wave analysis is presented of J/ψ→ϕπ+π−J/\psi \to \phi \pi ^+\pi ^- and ϕK+K−\phi K^+K^- from a sample of 58M J/ψJ/\psi events in the BES II detector. The f0(980)f_0(980) is observed clearly in both sets of data, and parameters of the Flatt\' e formula are determined accurately: M=965±8M = 965 \pm 8 (stat) ±6\pm 6 (syst) MeV/c2^2, g1=165±10±15g_1 = 165 \pm 10 \pm 15 MeV/c2^2, g2/g1=4.21±0.25±0.21g_2/g_1 = 4.21 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.21. The ϕππ\phi \pi \pi data also exhibit a strong ππ\pi \pi peak centred at M=1335M = 1335 MeV/c2^2. It may be fitted with f2(1270)f_2(1270) and a dominant 0+0^+ signal made from f0(1370)f_0(1370) interfering with a smaller f0(1500)f_0(1500) component. There is evidence that the f0(1370)f_0(1370) signal is resonant, from interference with f2(1270)f_2(1270). There is also a state in ππ\pi \pi with M=1790−30+40M = 1790 ^{+40}_{-30} MeV/c2^2 and Γ=270−30+60\Gamma = 270 ^{+60}_{-30} MeV/c2^2; spin 0 is preferred over spin 2. This state, f0(1790)f_0(1790), is distinct from f0(1710)f_0(1710). The ϕKKˉ\phi K\bar K data contain a strong peak due to f2′(1525)f_2'(1525). A shoulder on its upper side may be fitted by interference between f0(1500)f_0(1500) and f0(1710)f_0(1710).Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, 1 table. Submitted to Phys. Lett.

    To prospectively evaluate the long-term clinical safety and efficacy of a newly designed self-expanding metallic stent (SEMS) in the treatment of patients with achalasia. Seventy-five patients with achalasia were treated with a temporary SEMS with a 30-mm diameter. The SEMSs were placed under fluoroscopic guidance and removed by gastroscopy 4–5 days after stent placement. Follow-up data focused on dysphagia score, technique and clinical success, clinical remissions and failures, and complications and was performed at 6 months, 1 year, and within 3 to 5 years, 5 to 8 years, 8 to 10 years, and >10 years postoperatively. Stent placement was technically successful in all patients. Complications included stent migration (n = 4, 5.33%), chest pain (n = 28, 38.7%), reflux (n = 15, 20%), and bleeding (n = 9, 12%). No perforation or 30-day mortality occurred. Clinical success was achieved in all patients 1 month after stent removal. The overall remission rates at 6 months, 1, 1–3, 3–5, 5–8, 8–10, and >10 year follow-up periods were 100%, 96%, 93.9%, 90.9%, 100%, 100%, and 83.3%, respectively. Stent treatment failed in six patients, and the overall remission rate in our series was 92%. The median and mean primary patencies were 2.8 ± 0.28 years (95% CI: 2.25–3.35) and 4.28 ± 0.40 years (95% CI: 3.51–5.05), respectively. The use of temporary SEMSs with 30-mm diameter proved to be a safe and effective approach for managing achalasia with a long-term satisfactory clinical remission rate

    First observation of psi(2S)-->K_S K_L

    Full text link
    The decay psi(2S)-->K_S K_L is observed for the first time using psi(2S) data collected with the Beijing Spectrometer (BESII) at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPC); the branching ratio is determined to be B(psi(2S)-->K_S K_L) = (5.24\pm 0.47 \pm 0.48)\times 10^{-5}. Compared with J/psi-->K_S K_L, the psi(2S) branching ratio is enhanced relative to the prediction of the perturbative QCD ``12%'' rule. The result, together with the branching ratios of psi(2S) decays to other pseudoscalar meson pairs (\pi^+\pi^- and K^+K^-), is used to investigate the relative phase between the three-gluon and the one-photon annihilation amplitudes of psi(2S) decays.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables, submitted to Phys.
