Obesity prevalence and time trend among youngsters in China, 1982-2002
Purpose of present study is to describe the prevalence and trend of overweight and obesity, as well as its coexistence with stunting, among youngsters in China, from 1982 to 2002. Data from children 7-17 years of age from three cross-sectional national surveys: 1982 China National Nutrition Survey (5 334 boys and 4 793 girls), 1992 China National Nutrition Survey (8 048 boys and 7 453 girls) and 2002 China National Nutrition and Health Survey (23 242 boys and 21 638 girls) were used in this study. Overweight and obesity were defined according to age, sex specific BMI cut-off points from the International Obesity Task Force, while stunting was defined as height-for-age below -2 standard deviation from the NCHS/WHO reference median value. Results: Overweight prevalence of Chinese youngsters was 1.2%, 3.7% and 4.4%, while the obesity prevalence was 0.2%, 0.9% and 0.9% in 1982, 1992 and 2002, respectively. Both the overweight and obesity prevalence and their increment were higher among boys in urban areas. In 1982, 28.4% of overweight and 69.6% of obese youngsters were stunted, this decreased to 22.0% and 46.4% in 1992, and then to 5.7% and 7.7% in 2002, respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence of overweight and obesity in Chinese youngsters were low in 1982. There has been a rapid increase since then. If this trend continues, overweight will soon reach epidemic proportions. Stunting among overweight and obese youngsters decreased dramatically at the same time
Production Optimization,Molecular Characterization and Biological Activities of Exopolysaccharides from Xylaria nigripes
The optimal culture conditions of exopolysaccharides (EPS) production in submerged culture medium by Xylaria nigripes were determined using orthogonal matrix method. The optimal medium (per liter) EPS was 60.0 g L–1 maltose, 1.0 g L–1 peptone,
5 mmol L–1 KH2PO4, and initial pH 7.0 at 28 oC. In the optimal culture medium, the maximum EPS production was 11.967 g L–1 in shake flask. Two groups of EPSs (designated as Fr-I and Fr-II) were obtained from the culture filtrates by size exclusion chromatography
(SEC), and their molecular characteristics were examined by a multiangle laser-light scattering (MALLS) and refractive index (RI) detector system. The weight-average molar masses of Fr-I and Fr-II of EPS were determined to be 6.327104 and 1.478104 g mol–1, respectively. The SEC/MALLS analysis revealed that the molecular
formation of Fr-I is of nearly globular shape. Furthermore, the experiments in vitro indicated that X. nigripes EPS exhibited high antioxidative effects though its antitumour activity was limited
Evidencia experimental de la abundancia de bacterias del suelo como el principal iniciador del efecto de preparación de la rizosfera
Se piensa que las comunidades microbianas del suelo son responsables del efecto de preparación de la rizósfera (RPE). Sin embargo, desde que las comunidades microbiales están compuestas de diversos componentes, se conoce muy poco acerca de cuál es el componente que tiene el rol principal en dicho efecto. En este estudio, se hicieron crecer soja y algodón en dos lugares a diferentes latitudes con diferentes condiciones de luz y temperatura in situ. Se cuantificó RPE usando un método natural de δC13 y se midió la abundancia, riqueza y composición de las comunidades de hongos y bacterias con métodos moleculares basados en el ADN. Entre todas las variables potenciales, incluyendo los tres índices de comunidades de hongos y bacterias anteriormente mencionados, e índices vegetales y físico-químicos del suelo, se mostró que la abundancia de bacterias explicó una gran proporción de la variación en RPE. Nuestro estudio identificó el mecanismo biológico que subyace este importante proceso ecológico.Soil microbial communities are thougth to be responsible for the rhizosphere priming effect (RPE). However, because soil microbial communities are comprised of diverse components, very little is known about which component plays the critical role. Here, soybean and cottonwood were grown at two latitudinal locations with different temperature and light conditions in-situ. We quantified RPE using a natural 13C method, and measured the abundance, richness and composition of bacteria and fungi communities with DNA-based molecular methods. Among all potential variables, including the three aforementioned indexes of bacteria and fungi communities and soil physiochemical and plant indexes, bacterial abundance was found to explain a large proportion of variation in RPE. A joint sustainable order-packing vehicle routing optimisation for the cold chain e-fulfilment
Due to the new normal caused by the pandemic, consumer behaviour has now shifted to online shopping not only for general commodities but also for food and other perishable products. Therefore, e-commerce fulfilment is now integrated with cold chain capabilities to satisfy stringent requirements on time-criticality and product quality, leading to the concept of cold chain e-fulfilment. Aiming to achieve the desired insulation effect within a specific timeframe, use of thermal packaging materials could be excessive, which creates an adverse environmental impact on our ecosystem. Aligning with low-carbon business practices, this study proposes a novel joint optimization model, namely the Joint Optimization of Sustainable Order Packing and Multi-Temperature Delivery Problem (JOSOPMDP), for order packing and vehicle routing decisions, where the optimal packaging and distribution solution is achieved through the combinatorial optimisation of two complicated problems, rather than making two independent decisions. It promotes sustainable use of thermal packaging materials without negatively influencing product quality and customer satisfaction. To evaluate its viability and performance, three sets of computational experiments are subsequently conducted. It is found that the proposed model is feasible to strike a balance between order packing and vehicle routing decisions. Compared with the traditional strategy, the average total cost and satisfaction level are improved by 3.26% and 47.88%, respectively. Reexamining radiative decays of quarkonium into and
Recently CLEO has studied the radiative decay of into and
an upper limit for the decay has been determined. Confronting with this upper
limit,most of theoretical predictions for the decay fails. After briefly
reviewing these predictions we re-examine the decay by separating
nonperturbative effect related to the quarkonium and that related to or
, in which the later is parameterized by distribution amplitudes of
gluons in . With this factorization approach we obtain theoretical
predictions which are in agreement with experiment. Uncertainties in our
predictions are discussed. The possibly largest uncertainties are from
relativistic corrections for and the value of the charm quark mass. We
argue that the effect of these uncertainties can be reduced by using quarkonium
masses instead of using quark masses. An example of the reduction is shown with
an attempt to explain the violation of the famous 14% rule in radiative decays

Determination of oxygen stoichiometry in the mixed-valent manganites
The possible redox (oxidation reduction) chemical methods for precisely
determining the oxygen content in the perovskite manganites including
hole-doped La1-xCaxMnOy and electron-doped La1-xTexMnOy compounds are
described. For manganites annealed at different temperatures, the oxygen
content of the samples was determined by a redox back titration in which the
powder samples taken in a quartz crucible were dissolved in (1+1) sulfuric acid
containing an excess of sodium oxalate, and the excess sodium oxalate was
titrated with permanganate standard solution. The results indicate that the
method is effective and highly reproducible. Moreover, the variation of oxygen
content is also reflected in significantly affecting the electrical transport
property of the samples, which is mainly considered to be closely related to

Measurements of the observed cross sections for exclusive light hadrons containing at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV
By analyzing the data sets of 17.3, 6.5 and 1.0 pb taken,
respectively, at , 3.650 and 3.6648 GeV with the BES-II
detector at the BEPC collider, we measure the observed cross sections for
, , ,
and at the three energy
points. Based on these cross sections we set the upper limits on the observed
cross sections and the branching fractions for decay into these
