Effect of paclobutrazol and benzyl adenine on oriental lily hybrids
Studies on the effect of growth regulators viz., Paclobutrazol and Benzyl Adenine (PBZ and BA, respectively) on Oriental Lily Hybrids, 'Star Gazer Pink' and 'Star Gazer White' in the second year were carried out at Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan (H.P). The effect of growth regulators applied in the first year, was studied on growth and flowering of Oriental lily hybrids in the second year. Plant height and number of leaves plant-1 were recorded maximum when PBZ 25 ppm was applied in the first year. Maximum plant height and number of leaves plant-1 were found in 'Star Gazer White' (84.46 cm; 35.04 cm). Bulbs of 'Star Gazer White' when dipped in PBZ 25 ppm for 12 h in the first year resulted in maximum plant height (102.50 cm) in the second year. Leaf area in the second year was recorded maximum in 'Star Gazer White' (34.40 cm2) when PBZ 50 ppm was applied as bulb dip in the first year. Flower buds were initiated earlier in 'Star Gazer White' (84.48 days) as compared to 'Star Gazer Pink' (85.90 days). Days to bud initiation were also recorded minimum (75.81 days) when PBZ 25 ppm was applied as pre-plant bulb dip. More number of flowers plant-1 was recorded in 'Star Gazer White' (5.42) which lasted longer on stems (16.77 days). Bulbs dipped in growth regulators in the first season produced maximum number of flowers plant-1 (5.72) and duration of flowering was also maximum (18.28 days)

Loss Guided Activation for Action Recognition in Still Images
One significant problem of deep-learning based human action recognition is
that it can be easily misled by the presence of irrelevant objects or
backgrounds. Existing methods commonly address this problem by employing
bounding boxes on the target humans as part of the input, in both training and
testing stages. This requirement of bounding boxes as part of the input is
needed to enable the methods to ignore irrelevant contexts and extract only
human features. However, we consider this solution is inefficient, since the
bounding boxes might not be available. Hence, instead of using a person
bounding box as an input, we introduce a human-mask loss to automatically guide
the activations of the feature maps to the target human who is performing the
action, and hence suppress the activations of misleading contexts. We propose a
multi-task deep learning method that jointly predicts the human action class
and human location heatmap. Extensive experiments demonstrate our approach is
more robust compared to the baseline methods under the presence of irrelevant
misleading contexts. Our method achieves 94.06\% and 40.65\% (in terms of mAP)
on Stanford40 and MPII dataset respectively, which are 3.14\% and 12.6\%
relative improvements over the best results reported in the literature, and
thus set new state-of-the-art results. Additionally, unlike some existing
methods, we eliminate the requirement of using a person bounding box as an

Large magnetocrystalline anisotropy in tetragonally distorted Heuslers: a systematic study
With a view to the design of hard magnets without rare earths we explore the
possibility of large magnetocrystalline anisotropy energies in Heusler
compounds that are unstable with respect to a tetragonal distortion. We
consider the Heusler compounds FeYZ with Y = (Ni, Co, Pt), and CoYZ
with Y = (Ni, Fe, Pt) where, in both cases, Z = (Al, Ga, Ge, In, Sn). We find
that for the CoNiZ, CoPtZ, and FePtZ families the cubic phase is
always, at , unstable with respect to a tetragonal distortion, while, in
contrast, for the FeNiZ and FeCoZ families this is the case for only 2
compounds -- FeCoGe and FeCoSn. For all compounds in which a tetragonal
distortion occurs we calculate the MAE finding remarkably large values for the
Pt containing Heuslers, but also large values for a number of the other
compounds (e.g. CoNiGa has an MAE of -2.11~MJ/m). The tendency to a
tetragonal distortion we find to be strongly correlated with a high density of
states at the Fermi level in the cubic phase. As a corollary to this fact we
observe that upon doping compounds for which the cubic structure is stable such
that the Fermi level enters a region of high DOS, a tetragonal distortion is
induced and a correspondingly large value of the MAE is then observed.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure
Description of Copulatory Complex in Relation to Taxonomy in Gerridae
The family Gerridae is represented in India by 67 species (of which 4 are undescribed species and only known by the nymphs) belonging to 20 genera and representing 7 subfamilies (10 new species are described in the present work). The subfamily Charmatometrinae is not represented in India. The Gerrids or water striders are well known aquatic insects and they are the most interesting and fascinating among all insects of the tropics and subtropics. They skate, skip, glide or literally walk upon the surface of the water. The relation of copulatory complex with taxonomy is described in this research article

ZNF750 is a lineage-specific tumour suppressor in squamous cell carcinoma.
ZNF750 controls epithelial homeostasis by regulating epidermal-differentiation genes, a role underscored by its pathogenic mutations in esophageal squamous cell cancers (SCCs). However, the precise role of ZNF750 in SCC cell biology remains unclear. In this study, we report that ZNF750 is exclusively deleted, mutated and underexpressed in human SCCs, and low ZNF750 expression is associated with poor survival. Restoration of wildtype, but not mutant ZNF750 protein uniquely inhibited the malignant phenotypes of SCC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Notably, ZNF750 promoted the expression of a long non-coding RNA (TINCR), which mediated both cancer-inhibition and differentiation-induction effects of ZNF750. In addition, ZNF750 potently suppressed cell migration by directly inhibiting the transactivation of LAMC2. Together, our findings characterize ZNF750 as a crucial SCC-specific suppressor and uncover its novel anticancer-associated functions
Exploring service climate and employee performance in multicultural service settings
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new conceptual model that incorporates internal service quality as a mediator between service climate and employee performance and two personal cultural orientations (independence and interdependence) as the moderators of these relationships. Design/methodology/approach: An online survey of 353 employees representing 19 different nationalities, working in 18 branches and offices of a multinational business-to-business (B2B) civil engineering services firm, spread across 14 countries. Findings: All the hypotheses are supported. Specifically, internal service quality mediates the influence of service climate on employee performance and these relationships are stronger for employees with interdependent (vs independent) cultural orientations. Research limitations/implications: This paper uses data collected from the employees in a single B2B firm in one industry (Civil Engineering Services) and focuses on a few key variables, which may restrict the generalizability of its findings. Practical implications: The findings of this paper highlight the importance of cultural factors in building a service climate in multinational service organizations to help their employees work more effectively and efficiently with their colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds. Originality/value: This paper clarifies the relationships among service climate, internal service quality and employee performance, by showing that internal service quality mediates the influence of service climate on employee performance
Magneto-Seebeck effect in spin-valve with in-plane thermal gradient
We present measurements of magneto-Seebeck effect on a spin valve with
in-plane thermal gradient. We measured open circuit voltage and short circuit
current by applying a temperature gradient across a spin valve stack, where one
of the ferromagnetic layers is pinned. We found a clear hysteresis in these two
quantities as a function of magnetic field. From these measurements, the
magneto-Seebeck effect was found to be 0.82%.Comment: 10 Pages, 7 figure
