A New Experiment to Study Hyperon CP Violation and the Charmonium System
Fermilab operates the world's most intense antiproton source, now exclusively
dedicated to serving the needs of the Tevatron Collider. The anticipated 2009
shutdown of the Tevatron presents the opportunity for a world-leading low- and
medium-energy antiproton program. We summarize the status of the Fermilab
antiproton facility and review physics topics for which a future experiment
could make the world's best measurements.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Proceedings of CTP symposium on

Multilevel semantic analysis and problem-solving in the flight domain
A computer based cockpit system which is capable of assisting the pilot in such important tasks as monitoring, diagnosis, and trend analysis was developed. The system is properly organized and is endowed with a knowledge base so that it enhances the pilot's control over the aircraft while simultaneously reducing his workload
Dynamical mean-field equations for strongly interacting fermionic atoms in a potential trap
We derive a set of dynamical mean-field equations for strongly interacting
fermionic atoms in a potential trap across a Feshbach resonance. Our derivation
is based on a variational ansatz, which generalizes the crossover wavefunction
to the inhomogeneous case, and the assumption that the order parameter is
slowly varying over the size of the Cooper pairs. The equations reduce to a
generalized time-dependent Gross-Pitaevskii equation on the BEC side of the
resonance. We discuss an iterative method to solve these mean-field equations,
and present the solution for a harmonic trap as an illustrating example to
self-consistently verify the approximations made in our derivation.Comment: replaced with the published versio
Zn-doping effect on the magnetotransport properties of Bi_{2}Sr_{2-x}La_{x}CuO_{6+\delta} single crystals
We report the magnetotransport properties of
Bi_{2}Sr_{2-x}La_{x}Cu_{1-z}Zn_{z}O_{6+\delta} (Zn-doped BSLCO) single crystals
with z of up to 2.2%. Besides the typical Zn-doping effects on the in-plane
resistivity and the Hall angle, we demonstrate that the nature of the
low-temperature normal state in the Zn-doped samples is significantly altered
from that in the pristine samples under high magnetic fields. In particular, we
observe nearly-isotropic negative magnetoresistance as well as an increase in
the Hall coefficient at very low temperatures in non-superconducting Zn-doped
samples, which we propose to be caused by the Kondo scattering from the local
moments induced by Zn impurities.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, final version (one reference added), published in

Insights on quorum-quenching properties of Lysinibacillus fusiformis strain RB21, a Malaysian municipal solid-waste landfill soil isolate, via complete genome sequence analysis
YesLysinibacillus fusiformis strain RB21 is a quorum-quenching bacterium that is able to degrade quorum-sensing signaling molecules. Here, we present the first complete genome sequence of L. fusiformis strain RB21. The finished genome is 4.8 Mbp in size, and the quorum-quenching gene was identified.University of Malaya for High Impact Research (UM-MOHE HIR) grant UM C/625/1/HIR/MOHE/CHAN/01, no. Pt Magnetic Polarization on Y\u3csub\u3e3\u3c/sub\u3eFe\u3csub\u3e5\u3c/sub\u3eO\u3csub\u3e12\u3c/sub\u3e and Magnetotransport Characteristics
Thin Pt films on an yttrium iron garnet (YIG=Y3Fe5O12) show ferromagneticlike transport properties, which may impact the functionality of Pt in spin current detection, but do not provide direct quantitative information on the Pt magnetization. We report magnetic x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements of YIG/Pt(1.5 nm) showing an average Pt moment of 0.054 μB at 300 K and 0.076 μB at 20 K. This observation indicates strong proximity effects and induced magnetic ordering in Pt on magnetic insulators and their contribution to the spin-related measurements should not be neglected. The transport characteristics also suggest considerable modifications in the Pt electronic structure due to magnetic ordering
