Calculable One-Loop Contributions to S and T Parameters in the Gauge-Higgs Unification
We investigate the one-loop contributions to S and T oblique parameteres in
gauge-Higgs unification. We show that these parameters are finite in five
dimensional space-time, but are divergent in more than five dimensions.
Remarkably, however, we find that a particular linear combination of S and T
parameters, S - 4 \cos \theta_{W} T, becomes finite for six dimensional
space-time, though each of these parameters is divergent. This is because, in
the Gauge-Higgs unification scenario, the operators relevant for S and T
parameters are not independent, but are included in a unique higher dimensional
gauge invariant operator. Thus the predictable linear combination is model
independent, irrespectibly of the detail of the matter content.Comment: 25 pages, 1 eps file, minor corrections, version to appear in PR
Two loop finiteness of Higgs mass and potential in the gauge-Higgs unification
The zero mode of an extra-dimensional component of gauge potentials serves as
a 4D Higgs field in the gauge-Higgs unification. We examine QED on and determine the mass and potential of a 4D Higgs field (the
component) at the two loop level with gauge invariant reguralization. It is
seen that the mass is free from divergences and independent of the
renormalization scheme.Comment: 18 pages, 1 figur
Infant feeding practice of HIV positive mothers and its determinants in selected health institutions of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Background: Avoidance of all breast-feeding by HIV infected mothers is recommended when replacement feeding is acceptable, feasible, affordable, sustainable, and safe. Whereas for women whose HIV status is unknown or negative, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months is the single infant feeding option recommended. Objective: To assess the infant feeding practice of HIV positive mothers and its determinants. Methods: A cross sectional study with analytical component was conducted in 13 purposively selected health institutions with ART and PMTCT facilities in Addis Ababa during March, 2008. A total of 327 HIV positive motherswith their young infants visiting the respective health institutions were recruited in order of arrival, and assessed for their infant feeding practices. Results: Exclusive replacement feeding (ERF), exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) and mixed feeding (MF) were 46.8%, 30.6%, and 15.3% respectively. The predictors for choosing ERF were mode of delivery (
Flavor Mixing in the Gauge-Higgs Unification
Gauge-Higgs unification is the fascinating scenario solving the hierarchy
problem without supersymmetry. In this scenario, the Standard Model (SM) Higgs
doublet is identified with extra component of the gauge field in higher
dimensions and its mass becomes finite and stable under quantum corrections due
to the higher dimensional gauge symmetry. On the other hand, Yukawa coupling is
provided by the gauge coupling, which seems to mean that the flavor mixing and
CP violation do not arise at it stands. In this talk, we discuss that the
flavor mixing is originated from simultaneously non-diagonalizable bulk and
brane mass matrices. Then, this mechanism is applied to various flavor changing
neutral current (FCNC) processes via Kaluza-Klein (KK) gauge boson exchange at
tree level and constraints for compactification scale are obtained.Comment: 5 pages, prepared for the proceedings of the International Workshop

Bulk Mass Effects in Gauge-Higgs Unification at Finite Temperature
We study the bulk mass effects on the electroweak phase transition at finite
temperature in a five dimensional SU(3) gauge-Higgs unification model on an
orbifold. We investigate whether the Higgs mass satisfying the experimental
lower bound can be compatible with the strong first order phase transition
necessary for a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Our numerical results show
that the above statement can be realized by matter with bulk mass yielding a
viable Higgs mass. We also find an interesting case where the heavier Higgs
gives the stronger first order phase transition.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur
D-term Dynamical Supersymmetry Breaking Generating Split N=2 Gaugino Masses of Mixed Majorana-Dirac Type
Under a few mild assumptions, N=1 supersymmetry in four dimensions is shown
to be spontaneously broken in a self-consistent Hartree-Fock approximation of
BCS/NJL type to one-loop off-shell, in the gauge theory specified by the gauge
kinetic function and the superpotential of adjoint chiral superfields, in
particular, that possesses N=2 extended supersymmetry spontaneously broken to
N=1 at tree level. The N=2 gauginos receive mixed Majorana-Dirac masses and are
split. We derive an explicit form of the gap equation, showing the existence of
a nontrivial solution.Comment: 4 pages, the paper extended (a numerical plot of the solution to the
gap equation, an estimate of the decay rate of the metastable vacuum, and
discussion on nonvanishing term induced by the D term dynamical
supersymmetry breaking diven), references adde
Aspects of Phase Transition in Gauge-Higgs Unification at Finite Temperature
We study the phase transition in gauge-Higgs unification at finite
temperature. In particular, we obtain the strong first order electroweak phase
transition for a simple matter content yielding the correct order of Higgs mass
at zero temperature. Two stage phase transition is found for a particular
matter content, which is the strong first order at each stage. We further study
supersymmetric gauge models with the Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking. We
again observe the first order electroweak phase transition and multi stage
phase transition.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, references corrected, minor correctio
A possible minimal gauge-Higgs unification
A possible minimal model of the gauge-Higgs unification based on the higher
dimensional spacetime M^4 X (S^1/Z_2) and the bulk gauge symmetry SU(3)_C X
SU(3)_W X U(1)_X is constructed in some details. We argue that the Weinberg
angle and the electromagnetic current can be correctly identified if one
introduces the extra U(1)_X above and a bulk scalar triplet. The VEV of this
scalar as well as the orbifold boundary conditions will break the bulk gauge
symmetry down to that of the standard model. A new neutral zero-mode gauge
boson Z' exists that gains mass via this VEV. We propose a simple fermion
content that is free from all the anomalies when the extra brane-localized
chiral fermions are taken into account as well. The issues on recovering a
standard model chiral-fermion spectrum with the masses and flavor mixing are
also discussed, where we need to introduce the two other brane scalars which
also contribute to the Z' mass in the similar way as the scalar triplet. The
neutrinos can get small masses via a type I seesaw mechanism. In this model,
the mass of the Z' boson and the compactification scale are very constrained as
respectively given in the ranges: 2.7 TeV < m_Z' < 13.6 TeV and 40 TeV < 1/R <
200 TeV.Comment: 20 pages, revised versio

(S)fermion Masses in Fat Brane Scenario
We discuss the fermion mass hierarchy and the flavor mixings in the fat brane
scenario of a five dimensional SUSY theory. Assuming that the matter fields
lives in the bulk, their zero mode wave functions are Gaussians, and Higgs
fields are localized on the brane, we find simple various types of the matter
configurations generating the mass matrices consistent with experimental data.
Sfermion mass spectrum is also discussed using the matter configurations found
above. Which type of squark mass spectra (the degeneracy, the decoupling and
the alignment) is realized depends on the relative locations of SUSY breaking
brane and the brane where Higgs fields are localized.Comment: 18 pages, LaTe
