Magnetic domain observation of hydrogenation disproportionation desorption recombination processed Ndļ¼Feļ¼B powder with a high-resolution Kerr microscope using ultraviolet light
A Kerr microscope that uses ultraviolet (UV) light for high-resolution domain observation was built, and the domain structure and magnetization process of hydrogenation disproportionation desorption recombination (HDDR) powder were examined. The UV Kerr microscope could observe nanometer-sized domain patterns. Applying a dc field of 1.0 kOe to HDDR powder at a desorption recombination (DR) time of 12 min produced abrupt wall motion. The pinning force exerted by the grain boundaries is inadequate for producing high coercivity because the Nd-rich phase layers along these boundaries are absent at a DR time of 12 min. For HDDR powder at a DR time greater than 14 min, changing the magnetic field by up to 1.0 kOe produced no observable wall motion. It follows that the high coercivity of HDDR powder is due to domain wall pinning at the grain boundaries
Diagnostic ability of maximum blink interval with Ocular Surface Disease Index score for dry eye disease
A case of maxillary sarcoma in a chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes).
Oral malignancy is rare in chimpanzees. A 34-year-old female chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) at Kumamoto Sanctuary, Japan, had developed it. Treatment is technically difficult for chimpanzees while malignant neoplasm is seemingly rising in captive populations. Widespread expert discussion, guidelines for treatment, especially for great apes in terminal stages is urgently needed
The Sol Genomics Network (solgenomics.net): growing tomatoes using Perl
The Sol Genomics Network (SGN; http://solgenomics.net/) is a clade-oriented database (COD) containing biological data for species in the Solanaceae and their close relatives, with data types ranging from chromosomes and genes to phenotypes and accessions. SGN hosts several genome maps and sequences, including a pre-release of the tomato (Solanum lycopersicum cv Heinz 1706) reference genome. A new transcriptome component has been added to store RNA-seq and microarray data. SGN is also an open source software project, continuously developing and improving a complex system for storing, integrating and analyzing data. All code and development work is publicly visible on GitHub (http://github.com). The database architecture combines SGN-specific schemas and the community-developed Chado schema (http://gmod.org/wiki/Chado) for compatibility with other genome databases. The SGN curation model is community-driven, allowing researchers to add and edit information using simple web tools. Currently, over a hundred community annotators help curate the database. SGN can be accessed at http://solgenomics.net/
Subthreshold rho^0 photoproduction on 3He
A large reduction of the rho^0 mass in the nuclear medium is reported,
inferred from dipion photoproduction spectra in the 1 GeV region, for the
reaction 3He(gamma,pi+ pi-)X with a 10% duty factor tagged-photon beam and the
TAGX multi-particle spectrometer. The energy range covered (800 < E(gamma) <
1120 MeV) lies mostly below the free rho^0 production threshold, a region which
is believed sensitive to modifications of light vector-meson properties at
nuclear-matter densities. The rho^0 masses extracted from the MC fitting of the
data, m*(rho^0) = 642 +/- 40, 669 +/- 32, and 682 +/- 56 MeV/c^2 for E(gamma)
in the 800-880, 880-960, and 960-1040 MeV regions respectively, are
independently corroborated by a measured, assumption-free, kinematical
observable. This mass shift, far exceeding current mean-field driven
theoretical predictions, may be suggestive of rho^0 decay within the range of
the nucleonic field.Comment: 40 pages, 13 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev.
Superconductivity in Fullerides
Experimental studies of superconductivity properties of fullerides are
briefly reviewed. Theoretical calculations of the electron-phonon coupling, in
particular for the intramolecular phonons, are discussed extensively. The
calculations are compared with coupling constants deduced from a number of
different experimental techniques. It is discussed why the A_3 C_60 are not
Mott-Hubbard insulators, in spite of the large Coulomb interaction. Estimates
of the Coulomb pseudopotential , describing the effect of the Coulomb
repulsion on the superconductivity, as well as possible electronic mechanisms
for the superconductivity are reviewed. The calculation of various properties
within the Migdal-Eliashberg theory and attempts to go beyond this theory are
described.Comment: 33 pages, latex2e, revtex using rmp style, 15 figures, submitted to
