Design Issues for Axially Loaded Anchors in Strengthening Applications
Over the past few decades, due to the developments of chemical adhesives, usage of anchorages
is spread out in strengthening applications. Anchorages have a vital role to ensure those
applications accurate. In case of misapplications, connection between existing structural member
and added one may not transfer required forces which means non-efficient retrofitting.
Therefore, a number of recommendations are done regarding free-edge distance and embedment
depth of axially loaded anchors embedded to both low and normal strength concrete.
Furthermore, experimental results are compared with ACI-318 Appendix D recommendations
Öğretmenlerin örgütsel özdeşleşme ile anlamlı iş algıları arasındaki ilişkinin analizi
Teachers that identify with their organizations and find meaning at work can contribute to their
students and schools from various aspects. However, there is limited evidence on teacher perceptions of
organizational identification and meaningful work in the literature. The present research aims to determine the
relationship between teachers’ organizational identification and meaningful work perceptions. This quantitative
research is in correlational design. The sample of the research consists of 330 teachers working in Kahramanmaraş.
The scales of meaningful work for educational organizations and organizational identification were used as data
collection tools. In the analysis of the data, Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated, and regression analyses
were performed. Research findings show that there is a positive, moderately significant relationship between
organizational identification and meaningful work. Organizational identification is a significant predictor of
meaningful work. Organizational identification has positive and moderately significant relationships with the subdimensions of meaningful work (meaning at work, transcendence at work, work relationships, meaning leadership at
work, humility at work), and it is a significant predictor of these dimensions. Nevertheless, it shows no significant
relationship with the dimension of search for meaning at work. Implications for identifying with organizations and
meaningful work are discussed.Örgütleriyle özdeşleşen ve işte anlam bulan öğretmenler, öğrencilerine ve okullarına çeşitli yönlerden katkı
Shear capacity of post-installed anchors according to ACI318 and TS500
Applications of strengthening works have accelerated gradually due to earthquakes in recent years. Different strengthening methods are being used in order to bring the structures with insufficient strength to those levels specified by current codes. In most of the applications, the bonding between the new structural elements and the concrete of the old structure is established with the chemical anchors. Although they are used widespread in the practice, there are not any sufficient details in Turkish Standards for the design and application of these anchors. In this work, a comparison of ACI318 and the Turkish Standards for anchor shear strength is given. As the result, it has been concluded that there are vital differences between ACI and the Turkish Standards and that an immediate revision is needed for the Turkish Standards
Ground motion predictive modelling based on genetic algorithms
This study aims to utilise genetic algorithms for the estimation of peak ground accelerations (PGA). A case study is carried out for the earthquake data from south-west Turkey. The input parameters used for the development of attenuation relationship are magnitude, depth of earthquake, epicentral distance, average shear wave velocity and slope height of the site. Earthquake database compiled by the Earthquake Research Institute of Turkey was used for model development. An important contribution to this study is the slope/hill data included into the dataset. Developed empirical model has a good correlation (R = 0.78 and 0.75 for the training and overall datasets) between measured and estimated PGA values. The proposed model is also compared with local empirical predictive models and its results are found to be reasonable. The slope-hill effect found to be an important parameter for the estimation of PGA. © Author(s) 2011
The effect of the material based on the 7E model on the fourth grade students' comprehension skill about fraction concepts
Conference: 2nd World Conference on Educational Sciences (WCES-2010)
Location: Bahceschir Univ, Istanbul, TURKEYThe purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the material on the fourth grade primary school students' comprehension skill about fraction concept. Quasi-experimental research design including 44 students (22 experimental, 22 control group) were used. While the experimental group was taught with the materials based on the 7E model, the control group was taught with the existing textbook material. An open ended test including ten questions about fraction developed by the researchers and teachers was used as pre and post-test. Pre and post-test results were compared by using t-test in SPSS packet program and it was determined that there was a meaningful difference between experiment and control groups' success (t(42)=2.052, p=.046 <.05) about fraction
Myxoma of the ovary
Myxomas are benign tumors that generally arise from the heart,
soft tissues, muscle, skin and bone (1). Herein we present a
myxoma case found on the ovary.
A 12-year-old girl was under follow-up for menstrual
irregularities for 1 year and pelvic ultrasonography revealed
bilateral para-ovarian simple semisolid lesions. Pelvic magnetic
resonance imaging was performed, and a cystic lesion (65×4
cm) in the right adnexal region that was hyperintense on T2-AG
and hypointense on T1-AG was observed (Figure 1a). Ovarian
tumor markers and routine laboratory evaluations were all
within normal limits. The right adnexal para-ovarian cystic mass
was completely excise
Role of Mg doping in the structural, optical, and electrical characteristics of ZnO-based DSSCs
ZnO- and Mg-doped ZnO samples are prepared by spray pyrolysis on conducting glass substrates to fabricate ZnO-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). In uences of Mg-doping content on the power conversion efficiencies of ZnO-based DSSCs are investigated. X-ray diffraction results show that all the samples exhibit a hexagonal wurtzite structure. Scanning electron microscopy data indicate that the ZnO sample has uniform rods with 1 ? m diameter. With respect to ZnO, the band gap value of 4 at.% Mg-doped ZnO samples improves to the value of 3.27 eV and a further increase in Mg level up to 6 at.% gives rise to a decline in the band gap value of 3.22 eV. Photoluminescence measurements illustrate that intensities of the ultraviolet peak and a red luminescence peak take their maximum values for 4 at.% Mg doping. From solar cell performance measurements, the best power conversion efficiency of 0.08% is obtained for the doping amount of 4 at.% Mg
Seismic Behavior of Welded Precast Panel Connections
The behavior of connection between precast panels is important as it controls the failure
mode of the shear wall. Therefore, it is aimed to test the behavior of different type of precast
panel connections in this study. One monolithic reference model and two precast panel models
having different horizontal connection details were produced. The behavior of connections was
tested under reversed-cyclic lateral loads. It was concluded that welded connections can be
designed in high and normal ductility levels
