    A study on seismic isolation of building used LRB

    Base isolation system with lead rubber bearing (LRB) is commonly used to prevent structure against to damage of earthquake. Design of LRB system is detailed in this study. The isolated building with LRB design according to Uniform Building Code (UBC-97) and fixed building were examined. The six-storey building with LRB and fixed building were modelled in SAP2000 with the same dynamic loads. The relative floor displacement and internal forces of the seismic isolated and fixed building are compared. In addition, transverse and longitudinal reinforcement of any axis of seismic isolated and fixed building are compared. Analyse results showed that effectiveness of using seismic isolation system on building. The weight of longitudinal and transverse reinforcement of isolated building is smaller than fixed building about 36%, 40% respectively

Analizler için ANSYS© sonlu elemanlar paket programı kullanılmıştır.In this study, a new “Expandable Pedicular Screw” is designed for use in osteoporosis vertebral patients’ treatments. Solid model of the screw is designed by using the SOLIDWORKS© program. In the light of the standards and the literature, tensile test, bending test, torsion test and peel test are simulated separately by using finite element analysis (FEA) program ANSYS©. Results of the analyses are discussed and compared with existing results

    Investigation of teacher candidates’ university life quality and professional anxiety in terms of various variables

    Bu araştırmada fen bilgisi, beden eğitimi ve spor, sosyal bilgiler ve müzik öğretmen adaylarının üniversite yaşam kalitesi ve mesleki kaygı düzeylerinin bölüm, sınıf, akademik başarı, cinsiyet, yaş ve ekonomik gelir değişkenlerine göre incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmada kesitsel tarama modeli benimsenmiştir. Araştırma 2019-2020 akademik yılında Atatürk Üniversitesi Kazım Karabekir Eğitim Fakültesi fen bilgisi eğitimi, beden eğitimi ve spor, sosyal bilgiler eğitimi ve müzik eğitimi anabilim dallarında öğrenim gören 400 öğretmen adayı ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veri toplama aracı olarak Eriş ve Anıl (2016) tarafından geliştirilen Üniversite Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği ve Cabi ve Yalçınalp (2013) tarafından geliştirilen Mesleki Kaygı Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak öğretmen adaylarının üniversite yaşam kalitelerinde öğrenim görülen bölüme, sınıf düzeyine, cinsiyete, gelir durumuna göre anlamlı farklılaşmalar olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarının mesleki kaygı düzeylerinde öğrenim görülen bölüme, cinsiyete, gelir durumuna göre farklılaşma olmadığı ve sınıf düzeyine göre anlamlı farklılaşma olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarının üniversite yaşam kalitesi memnuniyetleri ile mesleki kaygıları arasında düşük düzeyde negatif ve anlamlı bir ilişki olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.In this study, it was aimed to examine the university life quality and professional anxiety levels of science, physical education and sports, social studies and music teacher candidates according to the variables of department, grade, academic achievement, gender, age and economic income. Cross-sectional scanning model was adopted in the study. The research was carried out with 400 teacher candidates studying in the departments of science education, physical education and sports, social studies education and music education at Atatürk University Kazım Karabekir Education Faculty in the 2019-2020 academic year. The University Quality of Life Scale developed by Eriş and Anıl (2016) and the Occupational Anxiety Scale developed by Cabi and Yalçınalp (2013) were used as data collection tools. As a result, it was determined that there are significant differences in the quality of life of teacher candidates according to the department of education, class level, gender, and income level. It was determined that there are no differences in the occupational anxiety levels of the teacher candidates according to the department, gender, income level and there is a significant difference according to the grade level. It was concluded that there is a low level negative and significant relationship between teacher candidates' satisfaction with university life quality and their professional anxiety

    Inverted (hobnail) high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and invasive inverted pattern

    High-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN) is considered to be an important precursor for prostatic adenocarcinoma. The present study aimed to investigate the histological features of the uncommon inverted (hobnail) pattern of HGPIN in transrectal ultrasonographic (TRUS) prostatic needle biopsies from 13 cases. These 13 diagnosed cases of inverted HGPIN were identified out of a total of 2,034 TRUS biopsies (0.63%), obtained from patients suspected to have prostate cancer. The hobnail pattern is comprised of secretory cell nuclei, which are histologically localized at the luminal surface of the prostate gland, rather than the periphery, and exhibit reverse polarity. Histological examinations were performed and the results demonstrated that 5 of the 13 cases exhibited pure inverted histology, while HGPIN was observed to be histologically associated with other patterns in the remaining 8 patients. In addition, an association with adenocarcinoma was identified in 7 of the 13 cases. All 7 carcinomas accompanied by inverted HGPIN were conventional acinar adenocarcinoma cases; of note, for these 7 cases, the Gleason score was 7 for each. One acinar adenocarcinoma case accompanying inverted HGPIN demonstrated hobnail characteristics in large areas of the invasive component. It was observed that nuclei were proliferated in the invasive cribriform glands, which was comparable to that of inverted HGPIN, and were located on the cytoplasmic luminal surface; a similar morphology was also observed in individual glands. In conclusion, the results of the present study suggested that the hobnail HGPIN pattern may be of diagnostic importance due to its high association with adenocarcinoma and the high Gleason scores in the accompanying carcinomas

    Therapeutic role of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease: Electroencephalography microstate correlates

    Introduction: The microstate analysis is a method to convert the electrical potentials on the multi-channel electrode array to topographical electroencephalography (EEG) data. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a non-invasive method that can modulate brain networks. This study explores the pathophysiological changes through microstate analysis in two different neurodegenerative diseases, Alzheimer’s (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD), characterized by motor and cognitive symptoms and analysis the effect of rTMS on the impaired cognitive and motor functions. Materials and Methods: We included 18 AD, 8 PD patients, and 13 age-matched controls. For both groups, we applied 5 Hz rTMS on the left pre-SMA in PD patients while 20 Hz rTMS on the left lateral parietal region in AD patients. Each patient was re-evaluated 1 week after the end of the sessions, which included a detailed clinical evaluation and measurement of EEG microstates. Results: At the baseline, the common findings between our AD and PD patients were altered microstate (MS) B, MS D durations and transition frequencies between MS A–MS B, MS C–MS D while global explained variance (GEV) ratio and the extent and frequency of occurrence of MS A, MS B, and MS D were separately altered in AD patients. Although no specific microstate parameter adequately differentiated between AD and PD patients, we observed significant changes in MS B and MS D parameters in PD patients. Further, we observed that Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) performances were associated with the transition frequencies between MS A–MS B and MS C–MS D and GEV ratio. After left parietal rTMS application, we have observed significantly increased visual memory recognition and clock drawing scores after left parietal rTMS application associated with improved microstate conditions prominent, especially in the mean duration of MS C in AD patients. Also, pre-SMA rTMS resulted in significant improvement in motor scores and frequency of transitions from MS D to MS C in PD patients. Conclusion: This study shows that PD and AD can cause different and similar microstate changes that can be modulated through rTMS, suggesting the role of MS parameters and rTMS as a possible combination in monitoring the treatment effect in neurodegenerative diseases

    Mitigating Tipburn True Foliar Calcium Application in Indoor Hydroponicly Grown Mini Cos Lettuce

    Hydroponic systems provide a highly advantageous environment for cultivating green leafy vegetables. Among these advantages, there is a significant acceleration in harvest compared to conventional farming methods, the attainment of high yields, enhanced leaf coloring, increased nutritional content, and improved sweetness, all of which are crucial factors. However, a particular issue known as tip burn is encountered when cultivating, especially Yedikule (Romaine) type lettuce in hydroponic systems. This study investigates various calcium dosages applied via foliar spray to mitigate tip burn on Thespian and Suntred lettuce varieties (green and red Romaine mini types). Different calcium dosages were employed for both lettuce varieties. This experiment examined various parameters for both lettuce types, including plant height, root length, stem diameter, plant age, dry weight, root dry and fresh weight, macro and micronutrient content, dry matter, and total yield. The results indicate that combining foliar calcium and adequate ventilation effectively mitigates tipburn. This research emphasizes the significance of such a combined approach in preventing tip burn in hydroponically grown lettuce, specifically Thespian and Suntred varieties

    NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL CALCULATION OF ROLL AMPLITUDE EFFECT ON ROLL DAMPING

    Roll motion is still a challenging problem in naval architecture and an adequate prediction of this physical phenomenon is important because of its undesirable effects such as capsizing. There are several methods using linear potential theory to predict roll motion, such as strip method, however, the accuracy of the calculated results lag behind the accuracy of other degrees of freedom due to viscosity. Viscosity have an important effect on roll damping, especially near resonance, and as it is known, it is not included in potential flow methods. Vortex shedding is the main physical phenomena in viscous damping of the roll motion and it affects the flow velocity around the bilge. This may lead to pressure increase or decrease on the hull. In the present study, roll damping of a forced rolling hull with bilge keels at different roll amplitudes was calculated numerically by using an Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) solver. For the purpose of validation, forced roll experiments were carried out and the results were plotted next to numerical results. The generated vortices around the hull and bilge keel were observed in the URANS calculations. In the case of large roll amplitude motion, the vortex shedding from the bilge keel interacts with the free surface and leads to decrease on roll damping

    Ortaöğretim Öğrencilerinin Üst Düzey Okuduğunu Anlama Becerilerinin İncelenmesi

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, öğrencilerin üst düzey okuduğunu anlama becerilerini farklı değişkenlere göre incelemek ve yanlış cevapların nedenlerini belirlemektir. Karma yönteme dayanan bu araştırma, açımlayıcı desenle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler “Üst Düzey Okuduğunu Anlama Becerileri Başarı Testi” aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Nicel verilerin analizinde betimsel ve ilişkisel istatistikler, nitel verilerin analizinde doküman incelemesi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın katılımcıları amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örnekleme tekniği kullanılarak belirlenen 312 ortaöğretim ikinci sınıf öğrencisidir. Bulgulara göre öğrencilerin başarı testinden aldıkları puanların düşük olduğu; üst düzey okuduğunu anlama becerilerinin, cinsiyet değişkenine göre anlamlı farklılık göstermediği; ders notları ile üst düzey okuduğunu anlama başarı puanları arasında pozitif yönde ve düşük düzeyde ilişkiler bulunduğu; internette ve bilişsel oyunlarda nispeten fazla vakit geçirenlerin üst düzey okuduğunu anlama becerilerinin daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Öğrencilerin cevapları analiz edildiğinde sorunun çözümüne ulaşabilmeleri için çıkarımda bulunmalarını sağlayacak karşılaştırmalar yapma, analiz etme ve yorumlayabilme becerilerini kullanamadıkları; yanlış cevaplar verdikleri soruların büyük oranda süreksiz metinleri içeren sorular olduğu belirlenmiştir

    Bu araştırma, yeni bir rekreatif eğlence türü olarak son yıllarda ülkemizde de ilgi görmeye başlayan kaçış ve korku evi oyunlarının literatürle de desteklenerek mevcut durumunun incelenmesi amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada öncelikle literatür taraması yapılarak korkunun psikolojik, sosyolojik boyutları analiz edilmiş, sonraki aşamada ise kaçış ve korku evi işletmeleri ziyaret edilerek uygulama aşamaları gözlemlenmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda kaçış ve korku evi oyunlarının korku çekiciliği, korku pazarlaması, eğlence ihtiyacı boyutlarında işlev kazandığı, kaçış ve korku evi işletmelerinin bahsi geçen bu boyutlarda dizayn edilerek hizmet sunduğu anlaşılmıştır. Bir rekreatif etkinlik türü olarak kaçış ve korku evi oyunlarının ülkemizde popülerliğini arttırdığı, bu alanda bireyler için farklı bir eğlence etkinliği sunduğu ve girişimciler için de yeni bir rekreasyon işletmeciliği fırsatı verdiği düşünülmektedir
