    Fault diagnosis of rope tension in hoisting systems based on vibration signals

    Fault diagnosis of rope tension is of great significance for safety in hoisting systems. A novel diagnosis method based on the vibration signals of the head sheaves is proposed. First, the signal is decomposed by the ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD); then the main intrinsic module functions (IMFs) are extracted by correlation analysis. Second, the energy and the permutation entropy (PE) of the main IMFs were calculated to create the feature vector. Third, a particle swarm optimization - support vector machine (PSO-SVM) is applied to classify tension states. The effectiveness and advantage of the proposed method are validated by experiments. Compared with the conventional force-sensor-based method, it has clear advantages in sensor installation, data transmission, safety, and reliability

    Is caffeine intake a risk factor leading to infertility? A protocol of an epidemiological systematic review of controlled clinical studies

    Background: Previous studies showed that high dose of caffeine intake may induce some specific human reproductive system diseases, even lead to infertility. Objectives: In consideration of the high consumption of caffeine according to the latest population-based survey, this review is aimed to systematically review the evidence from all controlled clinical studies of caffeine intake for infertility. Designs: Relevant randomized/quasi-randomized controlled trials, non-randomized clinical studies, cohort studies, and case-control studies will be included in this review. Participants will be either those without a history of infertility who are willing to have a baby (for prospective studies) or infertile patients with confirmed diagnosis (for retrospective studies). Caffeine or caffeine-containing beverage will be observed as the exposure factor. The key outcome will be the diagnosis of infertility in participants. All relevant published/unpublished or ongoing studies will be searched from seven databases and four online systems until December 2015. Two authors will screen the literatures and extract the data independently. Methodological quality of the included studies will be assessed by two authors according to either Risk of Bias Assessment or Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. We will use R software to analyze the data. Dose of caffeine will be quantified on a daily basis, and relative risk with their 95 % confidence interval will be measured. If data permit, meta-analysis and dose-response analysis will be conducted

    Acoustic Tweezing Cytometry Induces Rapid Initiation of Human Embryonic Stem Cell Differentiation.

    Mechanical forces play critical roles in influencing human embryonic stem cell (hESC) fate. However, it remains largely uncharacterized how local mechanical forces influence hESC behavior in vitro. Here, we used an ultrasound (US) technique, acoustic tweezing cytometry (ATC), to apply targeted cyclic subcellular forces to hESCs via integrin-bound microbubbles (MBs). We found that ATC-mediated cyclic forces applied for 30 min to hESCs near the edge of a colony induced immediate global responses throughout the colony, suggesting the importance of cell-cell connection in the mechanoresponsiveness of hESCs to ATC-applied forces. ATC application generated increased contractile force, enhanced calcium activity, as well as decreased expression of pluripotency transcription factors Oct4 and Nanog, leading to rapid initiation of hESC differentiation and characteristic epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) events that depend on focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activation and cytoskeleton (CSK) tension. These results reveal a unique, rapid mechanoresponsiveness and community behavior of hESCs to integrin-targeted cyclic forces

    China collection 2.1: Aerosol Optical Depth dataset for mainland China at 1km resolution

    A wide range of data products have been published since the operation of the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on NASA's TERRA and AQUA satellites. Based on DarkTarget and DeepBlue method, NASA has published Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) products Collection 6.0 with spatial resolution of 3km. Although validated globally, regional and systematic errors are still found in the MODIS-retrieved AOD products. This is especially remarkable for bright heterogeneous land surface, such as mainland China. In order to solve the aerosol retrieval problem over heterogeneous bright land surface, the Synergetic Retrieval of Aerosol Properties algorithm (SRAP) has been developed based on the synergetic use of the MODIS data of TERRA and AQUA satellites. Using the SRAP algorithm, we produced AOD dataset-China Collection 2.1 at 1km spatial resolution, dated from August 2002 to 2012. We compared the China Collection 2.1 AOD datasets for 2010 with AERONET data. From those 2460 collocations, representing mutually cloud-free conditions, we find that 62% of China Collection 2.1 AOD values comparing with AERONET-observed values within an expected error envelop of 20% and 55% within an expected error envelop of 15%. Compared with MODIS Level 2 aerosol products, China Collection 2.1 AOD datasets have a more complete coverage with fewer data gaps over the study region
