    Strategy for aesthetic photography recommendation via collaborative composition model

    In this study, the authors propose a collaborative composition model for automatically recommending suitable positions and poses in the scene of photography taken by amateurs. By analysing aesthetic‐aware features, the authors' strategy jointly takes attention and geometry composition into account to learn the aesthetic manifestation knowledge of professional photographers. Firstly, aesthetic composition representation exploits the strength of visual saliency to explicitly encode the spatial correlation of the professional photos. Secondly, ℓ2 regularised least square is adopted to constrain the representation coefficients, which provides a fast solution in selecting aesthetic candidates collaboratively. In addition, a novel confidence measure scheme is further designed based on reconstruction errors and the reference photos are updated adaptively according to the composition rules. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show that the model performs well for the portrait photographing recommendation

    PROZ Associated with Sorafenib Sensitivity May Serve as a Potential Target to Enhance the Efficacy of Combined Immunotherapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

    Targeted combined immunotherapy has significantly improved the prognosis of patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma and has now become the primary treatment for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. However, some patients still have poor efficacy or are resistant to treatment. The further exploration of molecular markers related to efficacy or finding molecular targets to increase efficacy is an urgent problem that needs to be resolved. In this research, we found that PROZ was a gene related to KDR expression that had significantly low expression in cancer tissue by analyzing the differential genes of cancer tissue and adjacent tissue and the intersection of KDR-related genes in hepatocellular carcinoma. The correlation analysis of clinical data showed that the low expression of PROZ was significantly correlated with the poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma, and further studies found that PROZ was closely related to the expression of p-ERK and VEGFR2 in hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, intracellular detection also showed that the expression of p-ERK increased and VEGFR2 expression decreased after PROZ interference, and PROZ downregulation with increased p-ERK and decreased VEGFR2 was also detected in sorafenib-resistant strains. At the same time, our analysis found that PROZ was negatively correlated with genes related to immunotherapy efficacy such as CD8A, CD274 and GZMA, and was also negatively correlated with T-cell infiltration in tumor tissue. Conclusion: PROZ is a gene related to the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma and it is closely related to the efficacy of sorafenib and immunotherapy. It may serve as a potential molecular target to improve the efficacy of targeted combined immunotherapy

    Pleiotrophin ameliorates age-induced adult hippocampal neurogenesis decline and cognitive dysfunction

    Summary: Cognitive impairment has been associated with an age-related decline in adult hippocampal neurogenesis (AHN). The molecular basis of declining neurogenesis in the aging hippocampus remains to be elucidated. Here, we show that pleiotrophin (PTN) expression is decreased with aging in neural stem and progenitor cells (NSPCs). Mice lacking PTN exhibit impaired AHN accompanied by poor learning and memory. Mechanistically, we find that PTN engages with protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type Z1 (PTPRZ1) to promote NSPC proliferation and differentiation by activating AKT signaling. PTN overexpression or pharmacological activation of AKT signaling in aging mice restores AHN and alleviates relevant memory deficits. Importantly, we also find that PTN overexpression improves impaired neurogenesis in senescence-accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) mice. We further confirm that PTN is required for enriched environment-induced increases in AHN. These results corroborate the significance of AHN in aging and reveal a possible therapeutic intervention by targeting PTN

    Tailorable Brillouin Light Scattering in a Lithium Niobate Waveguide

    Stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) lasers based on silicon waveguides with large SBS gain have been widely used in frequency tunable laser emissions, mode-locked pulse lasers, low-noise oscillators, optical gyroscopes and other fields. However, among SBS lasers, the realization of Brillouin laser output often requires a longer waveguide length, which not only increases waveguide loss but also increase the size of the device. As a new medium, lithium niobate has been fabricated into a new type of hybrid structure. Meanwhile, the width of a suspended waveguide is adjusted to tune the phonon frequency of an SBS laser based on lithium niobate substrate. Simulation results show that the tunable forward SBS effect is realized in a lithium niobate-suspended optical waveguide, showing a larger forward stimulated Brillouin scattering gain of 0.31 W−1m−1. The tunable phonon frequency ranges from 1 to 15 GHz. Therefore, utilizing the photon–phonon conversion effect, the waveguide system with LiNbO3 will pave a new way forward with better integration
