Improving "color rendering" of LED lighting for the growth of lettuce

Light plays a vital role on the growth and development of plant. On the base of white light with high color rendering to the benefit of human survival and life, we proposed to improve “color rendering” of LED lighting for accelerating the growth of lettuce. Seven spectral LED lights were adopted to irradiate the lettuces under 150 μmol·m−2·s−1 for a 16 hd−1 photoperiod. The leaf area and number profiles, plant biomass, and photosynthetic rate under the as-prepared LED light treatments were investigated. We let the absorption spectrum of fresh leaf be the emission spectrum of ideal light and then evaluate the “color rendering” of as-prepared LED lights by the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and CIE chromaticity coordinates. Under the irradiation of red-yellow-blue light with high correlation coefficient of 0.587, the dry weights and leaf growth rate are 2-3 times as high as the sharp red-blue light. The optimized LED light for lettuce growth can be presumed to be limited to the angle (about 75°) between the vectors passed through the ideal light in the CIE chromaticity coordinates. These findings open up a new idea to assess and find the optimized LED light for plant growth

Grain boundary migration in polycrystalline α\alpha-Fe

High energy x-ray diffraction microscopy was used to image the microstructure of α\alpha-Fe before and after a 600 ^\circC anneal. These data were used to determine the areas, curvatures, energies, and velocities of approximately 40,000 grain boundaries. The measured grain boundary properties depend on the five macroscopic grain boundary parameters. The velocities are not correlated with the product of the mean boundary curvature and grain boundary energy, usually assumed to be the driving force. Boundary migration is made up of area changes (lateral motion) and translation (normal motion) and both contribute to the total migration. Through the lateral motion component of the migration, low energy boundaries tend to expand in area while high energy boundaries shrink, reducing the average energy through grain boundary replacement. The driving force for this process is not related to curvature and might disrupt the expected curvature-velocity relationship.Comment: 33 pages, double spaced, accepted for publication in Acta Materiali

Mesoporous Polydopamine Loaded Pirfenidone Target to Fibroblast Activation Protein for Pulmonary Fibrosis Therapy

Recently, fibroblast activation protein (FAP), an overexpressed transmembrane protein of activated fibroblast in pulmonary fibrosis, has been considered as the new target for diagnosing and treating pulmonary fibrosis. In this work, mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA), which is facile prepared and easily modified, is developed as a carrier to load antifibrosis drug pirfenidone (PFD) and linking FAP inhibitor (FAPI) to realize lesion-targeted drug delivery for pulmonary fibrosis therapy. We have found that PFD@MPDA-FAPI is well biocompatible and with good properties of antifibrosis, when ICG labels MPDA-FAPI, the accumulation of the nanodrug at the fibrosis lung in vivo can be observed by NIR imaging, and the antifibrosis properties of PFD@MPDA-FAPI in vivo were also better than those of pure PFD and PFD@MPDA; therefore, the easily produced and biocompatible nanodrug PFD@MPDA-FAPI developed in this study is promising for further clinical translations in pulmonary fibrosis antifibrosis therapy

PSR J1926-0652: A Pulsar with Interesting Emission Properties Discovered at FAST

We describe PSR J1926-0652, a pulsar recently discovered with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). Using sensitive single-pulse detections from FAST and long-term timing observations from the Parkes 64-m radio telescope, we probed phenomena on both long and short time scales. The FAST observations covered a wide frequency range from 270 to 800 MHz, enabling individual pulses to be studied in detail. The pulsar exhibits at least four profile components, short-term nulling lasting from 4 to 450 pulses, complex subpulse drifting behaviours and intermittency on scales of tens of minutes. While the average band spacing P3 is relatively constant across different bursts and components, significant variations in the separation of adjacent bands are seen, especially near the beginning and end of a burst. Band shapes and slopes are quite variable, especially for the trailing components and for the shorter bursts. We show that for each burst the last detectable pulse prior to emission ceasing has different properties compared to other pulses. These complexities pose challenges for the classic carousel-type models.Comment: 13pages with 12 figure

Preparation and Performance of Catalytic Hollow Fibre Membranes for Hydrogenation Reduction of Nitrites in Water

    Get PDF
Porous Al2O3 hollow fiber membranes have been fabricated via a phase inversion – sintering technique. Pd-loaded carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are formed inside the hollow fibre wall by the catalytic decomposition of methane over Fe particles, followed by impregnation and reduction with hydrogen to form catalytic hollow fibre membranes. Hydrophobic modification of the hollow fibres is conducted by gas permeable polymeric coating. The resultant hollow fibre membranes exhibit highly catalytic activity to the hydrogenation reduction of nitrites in aqueous solution. Hollow fibre membrane reactors are assembled for nitrite hydrogenation by pumping nitrite solution into the tube side and introducing hydrogen countercurrently to the shell side of the reactor. The nitrite removal in the hollow fibre membrane reactors increases with the operation temperature and the hydrogen feed concentration at lower hydrogen partial pressures, but less influenced by the hydrogen feed concentration when it is higher than 50%. A higher nitrite concentration favors the nitrite hydrogenation reaction but lowers the nitrite removal efficiency
