Simple Model Also Works: A Novel Emotion Recognition Network in Textual Conversation Based on Curriculum Learning Strategy

Emotion Recognition in Conversation (ERC) has emerged as a research hotspot in domains such as conversational robots and question-answer systems. How to efficiently and adequately retrieve contextual emotional cues has been one of the key challenges in the ERC task. Existing efforts do not fully model the context and employ complex network structures, resulting in excessive computational resource overhead without substantial performance improvement. In this paper, we propose a novel Emotion Recognition Network based on Curriculum Learning strategy (ERNetCL). The proposed ERNetCL primarily consists of Temporal Encoder (TE), Spatial Encoder (SE), and Curriculum Learning (CL) loss. We utilize TE and SE to combine the strengths of previous methods in a simplistic manner to efficiently capture temporal and spatial contextual information in the conversation. To simulate the way humans learn curriculum from easy to hard, we apply the idea of CL to the ERC task to progressively optimize the network parameters of ERNetCL. At the beginning of training, we assign lower learning weights to difficult samples. As the epoch increases, the learning weights for these samples are gradually raised. Extensive experiments on four datasets exhibit that our proposed method is effective and dramatically beats other baseline models.Comment: 12 pages,9 figure

Government Conduct: The Guiding Force for Developing National Soft Power

    Get PDF
Only the conduct of a government that strives to serve the people that empowered it can produce governmental soft power. The soft power of a government constitutes the guiding and consolidating force for the soft power of a country. In order to give full play to these forces, great attention should be paid to the dynamic composition of soft power. In the structural system of governmental soft power, the character of the head of state is the soul while universal values constitute the soil; the concept of “small government large people” becomes the practical norm; the construction of extensive social credibility is the approach that generates governmental soft power; the moral guidance of government conduct is the fundamental way to release the function of governmental soft power; constitutional politics forms the institutional cornerstone where governmental soft power can be created and developed.Key words: Governmental soft power; The character of the head of state; Universal values; Government credibility; Moral guidance of government conduc

Sea ice type is an important factor for accurately calculating sea ice parameters such as sea ice concentration, sea ice area and sea ice thickness using satellite remote sensing data. In this study, sea ice in the Weddell Sea was classified from scatterometer data by the histogram threshold method and the Spreen model method, and evaluated and validated with the Antarctic Sea Ice Processes and Climate (ASPeCt) sea ice type ship-based observations. The results show that the two methods can both distinguish multi-year (MY) ice and first-year (FY) ice during the ice growth season, and that the histogram threshold method has a relatively larger MY ice classification extent than the Spreen model. The classification accuracy of the histogram threshold method is 77.8%, while the Spreen model method accuracy is 80.3% compared with the ship-based observations, thus indicating that the Spreen model method is better for discriminating MY ice from FY ice from scatterometer data. These results provide a basis and reference for further retrieval of long-time sea ice type information for the whole Antarctica

High-Dose siRNAs Upregulate Mouse Eri-1 at both Transcription and Posttranscription Levels

    Get PDF
The eri-1 gene encodes a 3′ exonuclease that can negatively regulate RNA interference via siRNase activity. High-dose siRNAs (hd-siRNAs) can enhance Eri-1 expression, which in return degrade siRNAs and greatly reduces RNAi efficiency. Here we report that hd-siRNAs induce mouse Eri-1 (meri-1) expression through the recruitment of Sp1, Ets-1, and STAT3 to the meri-1 promoter and the formation of an Sp1-Ets-1-STAT3 complex. In addition, hd-siRNAs also abolish the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) mediated posttranscriptional repression of meri-1. Our findings demonstrate the molecular mechanism underlying the upregulation of meri-1 by hd-siRNA

Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third common cancer and the fourth leading cause of cancer death worldwide. A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), rs961253 located in 20p12, was firstly described to be associated with the increased risk of CRC in a genome-wide association study; however, more recent replication studies yielded controversial results. Methodology/Principal Findings: A hospital-based case-control study in a Chinese population was firstly performed, and then a meta-analysis combining the current and previously published studies were conducted to explore the real effect of rs961253 in CRC susceptibility. In the Chinese population including 641 cases and 1037 controls, per-A-allele conferred an OR of 1.60 (95 % CI = 1.26–2.02) under additive model. In the meta-analysis including 29859 cases and 29696 controls, per-Aallele have an OR of 1.13 (95 % CI = 1.09–1.18) under a random-effects model due to heterogeneity (P = 0.019). Nevertheless, the heterogeneity can be totally explained by ethnicity, with the tau 2 reduced to 0 after including ethnicity in metaregression model. In stratified analysis by ethnicity, per-A-allele had ORs of 1.34 (95 % CI = 1.20–1.50) and 1.11 (95% CI = 1.08–1.14) for Asian and European, respectively, without heterogeneity. Modest influence of each study was observed on overall estimate in sensitive analysis, and evident tendency to significant association was seen in cumulative analysis over time, together indicating the robust stability of the current results

AcoMYB4, an Ananas comosus L. MYB transcription factor, functions in osmotic stress through negative regulation of ABA signaling

Drought and salt stress are the main environmental cues affecting the survival, development, distribution, and yield of crops worldwide. MYB transcription factors play a crucial role in plants’ biological processes, but the function of pineapple MYB genes is still obscure. In this study, one of the pineapple MYB transcription factors, AcoMYB4, was isolated and characterized. The results showed that AcoMYB4 is localized in the cell nucleus, and its expression is induced by low temperature, drought, salt stress, and hormonal stimulation, especially by abscisic acid (ABA). Overexpression of AcoMYB4 in rice and Arabidopsis enhanced plant sensitivity to osmotic stress; it led to an increase in the number stomata on leaf surfaces and lower germination rate under salt and drought stress. Furthermore, in AcoMYB4 OE lines, the membrane oxidation index, free proline, and soluble sugar contents were decreased. In contrast, electrolyte leakage and malondialdehyde (MDA) content increased significantly due to membrane injury, indicating higher sensitivity to drought and salinity stresses. Besides the above, both the expression level and activities of several antioxidant enzymes were decreased, indicating lower antioxidant activity in AcoMYB4 transgenic plants. Moreover, under osmotic stress, overexpression of AcoMYB4 inhibited ABA biosynthesis through a decrease in the transcription of genes responsible for ABA synthesis (ABA1 and ABA2) and ABA signal transduction factor ABI5. These results suggest that AcoMYB4 negatively regulates osmotic stress by attenuating cellular ABA biosynthesis and signal transduction pathways

Study on the Optimization of the Formula of Potato Scone andIts Texture Characteristics

    Get PDF
In order to enrich potato staple products and improve the sensory quality of scones, the rheological properties of mixed dough of potato flour and wheat flour were studied. With sensory score and texture characteristics as evaluation indexes, the formulation of potato flour scone was optimized by single factor experiments and orthogonal test. The results showed that potato flour could improve the water absorption of wheat flour and shorten the formation time of dough, but it would lead to a decline in the elasticity and strength of the dough, resulting in a decrease in its quality. Therefore, the appropriate substitution ratio for whole potato flour was considered to be 20%. The best process recipe for scones was based on a mixture of wheat flour and whole potato flour quality, with 20% whole potato flour added, 68% water added, 0.8% yeast added and 6% sugar added. The hardness of the scone prepared under the optimal condition was 342.63 g, and the chewiness was 106.76 N. The research results provided a theoretical basis for the quality improvement of the scones and the development of whole potato flour products

Although the major risk factors for liver cancer have been established, preventive factors for liver cancer have not been fully explored. We evaluated the association between raw garlic consumption and liver cancer in a large population-based case-control study in Eastern China. The study was conducted in Jiangsu, China, from 2003 to 2010. A total of 2011 incident liver cancer cases and 7933 randomly selected population-controls were interviewed. Epidemiological data including raw garlic intake and other exposures were collected, and serum markers of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection were assayed. Overall, eating raw garlic twice or more per week was inversely associated with liver cancer, with an adjusted odds ratio (aOR) of 0.77 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.62-0.96) compared to those ingesting no raw garlic or less than twice per week. In stratified analyses, high intake of raw garlic was inversely associated with liver cancer among Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative individuals, frequent alcohol drinkers, those having history of eating mold-contaminated food or drinking raw water, and those without family history of liver cancer. Marginal interactions on an additive scale were observed between low raw garlic intake and HBsAg positivity (attributable proportion due to interaction (AP) = 0.31, 95% CI: -0.01-0.62) and heavy alcohol drinking (AP = 0.28, 95% CI: 0.00-0.57). Raw garlic consumption is inversely associated with liver cancer. Such an association shed some light on the potential etiologic role of garlic intake on liver cancer, which in turn might provide a possible dietary intervention to reduce liver cancer in Chinese population
