3E: Energy-Efficient Elastic Scheduling for Independent Tasks in Heterogeneous Computing Systems

Get PDF
Reducing energy consumption is a major design constraint for modern heterogeneous computing systems to minimize electricity cost, improve system reliability and protect environment. Conventional energy-efficient scheduling strategies developed on these systems do not sufficiently exploit the system elasticity and adaptability for maximum energy savings, and do not simultaneously take account of user expected finish time. In this paper, we develop a novel scheduling strategy named energy-efficient elastic (3E) scheduling for aperiodic, independent and non-real-time tasks with user expected finish times on DVFS-enabled heterogeneous computing systems. The 3E strategy adjusts processors’ supply voltages and frequencies according to the system workload, and makes trade-offs between energy consumption and user expected finish times. Compared with other energy-efficient strategies, 3E significantly improves the scheduling quality and effectively enhances the system elasticity

Anhui Tobacco Corporation (ATC) is a large state-owned group corporation. After a long period of planned economy system, ATC is not suit for marketing economy. With rigid management method, bad service and high trade cost, ATC is weak in competition. Shortly after 1-year’s construction, ATC built up an E-commerce platform which has the largest bargain and perfectly combines the traditional industry with modern information technology. The information system is based on a network connecting all the subordinate factories, branches and wholesale center. It is centered by e-business, including e-commerce platform, centralized fund management system, and ERP for manufacturing factories and MIS for sales firms will be applied later. Since the platform went into operation in Oct.,2001,an average of thousand boxes of cigarette has been dealt. Up to March,2002, the trading fund amounts to 400 million yuan. This figure is forecasted to be one billion in 2002. At the same time, income grows rapidly. The allot income increases 24% compared with the same period last year; wholesale increases 14%, profit increases 21%. Information system must service the strategy target, and be driven by management innovation. The success is due to idea renewing, leadership, organization and Training from beginning to end

Research methods on the role of financial inclusion, energy efficiency and energy R&D: Evidence from G7 economies

Get PDF
Countries around the globe are rapidly targeting energy efficiency goal achievement due to the unproductive and inefficient use of traditional energy sources. Several factors are discovered that are critical for energy efficiency in the region. Still, there are many economic, financial, energy, and research and development factors that could influence energy efficiency and remained ignored in the scholarly research, which is important from economic growth as well as environmental sustainability perspective. This research contributes to the existing literature by providing novel factors affecting energy efficiency in the developed nations. Specifically, the current study investigates the influence of financial inclusion, energy R&D, political- economic-financial risk index, and the energy-related inflation on the energy efficiency of G7 economies covering the period from 2004 to 2020. This study employed the slope heterogeneity and cross-section dependence test, which led to using the second-generation unit root test. For empirical estimations, the current study utilizes the panel Quantile regression, and the outcomes reveal that all the considered variables positively influence the energy efficiency in the region. However, the influence of these variables increases except for the energy-related inflation when moving from lower quantile Q0.25 to medium Q0.50 to higher quantile Q0.75, respectively. The estimated results are found robust, confirmed by the FMOLS estimator. Based on the empirical findings, it is recommended that financial inclusion and energy-related research and development be enhanced to achieve the region’s energy efficiency

Thermal expansion of kyanite at ambient pressure: An X-ray powder diffraction study up to 1000 °C

Get PDF
AbstractThe thermal expansion coefficients of kyanite at ambient pressure have been investigated by an X-ray powder diffraction technique with temperatures up to 1000 °C. No phase transition was observed in the experimental temperature range. Data for the unit-cell parameters and temperatures were fitted empirically resulting in the following thermal expansion coefficients: αa = 5.8(3) × 10−5, αb = 5.8(1) × 10−5, αc = 5.2(1) × 10−5, and αV = 7.4(1) × 10−3 °C−1, in good agreement with a recent neutron powder diffraction study. On the other hand, the variation of the unit-cell angles α, ÎČ and Îł of kyanite with increase in temperature is very complicated, and the agreement among all studies is poor. The thermal expansion data at ambient pressure reported here and the compression data at ambient temperature from the literature suggest that, for the kyanite lattice, the most and least thermally expandable directions correspond to the most and least compressible directions, respectively

RecycleGPT: An Autoregressive Language Model with Recyclable Module

Existing large language models have to run K times to generate a sequence of K tokens. In this paper, we present RecycleGPT, a generative language model with fast decoding speed by recycling pre-generated model states without running the whole model in multiple steps. Our approach relies on the observation that adjacent tokens in a sequence usually have strong correlations and the next token in a sequence can be reasonably guessed or inferred based on the preceding ones. Experiments and analysis demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach in lowering inference latency, achieving up to 1.4x speedup while preserving high performance.Comment: Technical Repor

Reversible resistance switching properties in Ti-doped polycrystalline Ta2O5 thin films

Get PDF
Unipolar reversible resistance switching effects were found in 5 at% Ti-doped polycrystalline Ta 2O 5 films with the device structure of Pt/Ti-Ta 2O 5/Pt. Results suggest that the recovery/rupture of the conductive filaments which are involved in the participation of oxygen vacancies and electrons leads to the resistance switching process. Tidoped Ta 2O 5 thin films possess higher resistance whether in low-resistance state or high-resistance state and higher resistance switching ratio than Ta 2O 5 thin films, where Ti addition plays an important role in the resistance switching process by suppressing the migration of oxygen vacancies via forming an electrically inactive Ti/O-vacancy complex. Excellent retention properties of the high and low resistances under constant stress of applied voltage were obtained

The Histone H3 Lysine 4 Presenter WDR5 as an Oncogenic Protein and Novel Epigenetic Target in Cancer

Get PDF
The histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4) presenter WDR5 forms protein complexes with H3K4 methyltransferases MLL1-MLL4 and binding partner proteins including RBBP5, ASH2L, and DPY30, and plays a key role in histone H3K4 trimethylation, chromatin remodeling, transcriptional activation of target genes, normal biology, and diseases such as MLL-rearranged leukemia. By forming protein complexes with other proteins such as Myc, WDR5 induces transcriptional activation of key oncogenes, tumor cell cycle progression, DNA replication, cell proliferation, survival, tumor initiation, progression, invasion, and metastasis of cancer of a variety of organ origins. Several small molecule MLL/WDR5 protein-protein interaction inhibitors, such as MM-401, MM-589, WDR5-0103, Piribedil, and OICR-9429, have been confirmed to reduce H3K4 trimethylation, oncogenic gene expression, cell cycle progression, cancer cell proliferation, survival and resistance to chemotherapy without general toxicity to normal cells. Derivatives of the MLL/WDR5 interaction inhibitors with improved pharmacokinetic properties and in vivo bioavailability are expected to have the potential to be trialed in cancer patients

Molecular cloning and expression profiles of MnSOD and CAT genes from the turbot Scophthalmus maximus

Get PDF
Manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and catalase (CAT) could eliminate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and maintain the reduction-oxidation balance in cells. This study aimed to investigate their functions in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) response to the *Vibro anguillarum* challenge. SmMnSOD, the full-length liver cDNA of MnSOD from *S. maximus*, was cloned by fast amplification of cDNA ends (RACE). Sequencing of nucleotides indicated that the SmMnSOD cDNA was 1267 base pairs with a 684-base-pair open reading frame, encoding a 228 amino acid protein with 28 amino acid residues. The SmMnSOD sequence contains MnSOD signatures (DVWEHAYY) and probable N-glycosylation sites (NVT, NHT, and NLS). The deduced sequence of SmMnSOD revealed sequence homology between 85.3% and 92.9% with those of other species. A phylogenetic study found that SmMnSOD clustered with other fish MnSOD, indicating that SmMnSOD was a member of the MnSOD family. The SmMnSOD transcript was discovered by qRT-PCR in the gill, stomach, head-kidney, muscle, liver, intestine, and heart of *S. maximus*, with the highest expression in the liver. Upon intervention by *V. anguillarum*, the liver and head kidney transcript levels of SmMnSOD were up-regulated at 12 and 48 h, whereas the temporal expression profiles of the CAT transcript increased at 6 and 24 h. As the pathogenic bacterial stress processing was prolonged to 72 h, the liver and head kidney transcript levels of SmMnSOD and CAT decreased gradually. Thus, SmMnSOD was triggered and may be related to *S. maximus*' immunological responses against *V. anguillarum*
