Impact of the implementation of carbon emission trading on corporate financial performance : Evidence from listed companies in China
With the development of ecological paradigm coupled with the relentless implementation of myriad environmental policies in China, the rapid development of carbon emission trading and carbon trading market has had a vital impact on the financial performance of enterprises at the microlevel. This study has sampled the A-share listed companies in China, from 2009 to 2018, and adopted the difference-in-difference (DID) method to investigate the effect of the carbon emission trading on corporate financial performance from the microlevel. Evidence showed that the implementation of carbon emission trading effectively improved the total asset-liability ratio of enterprises, though it reduced the value of the current capital market. Moreover, in the regions under strict legal environment, the enhancement effect of the total asset-liability ratio was more obvious, whereas in the regions under loose legal environment, the reduction effect of the value of the capital market was more obvious. Further analysis showed that the implementation of carbon emission trading could not promote Chinese enterprises to increase R&D investment. Hence the implementation of carbon emission trading has improved the level of non-business income of enterprises incorporated into the trading system, but its impact on the investment income of enterprises was not significant.Peer reviewe
SWheg: A Wheel-Leg Transformable Robot With Minimalist Actuator Realization
This article presents the design, implementation, and performance evaluation
of SWheg, a novel modular wheel-leg transformable robot family with minimalist
actuator realization. SWheg takes advantage of both wheeled and legged
locomotion by seamlessly integrating them on a single platform. In contrast to
other designs that use multiple actuators, SWheg uses only one actuator to
drive the transformation of all the wheel-leg modules in sync. This means an
N-legged SWheg robot requires only N+1 actuators, which can significantly
reduce the cost and malfunction rate of the platform. The tendon-driven
wheel-leg transformation mechanism based on a four-bar linkage can perform fast
morphology transitions between wheels and legs. We validated the design
principle with two SWheg robots with four and six wheel-leg modules separately,
namely Quadrupedal SWheg and Hexapod SWheg. The design process, mechatronics
infrastructure, and the gait behavioral development of both platforms were
discussed. The performance of the robot was evaluated in various scenarios,
including driving and turning in wheeled mode, step crossing, irregular terrain
passing, and stair climbing in legged mode. The comparison between these two
platforms was also discussed
Src kinase up-regulates the ERK cascade through inactivation of protein phosphatase 2A following cerebral ischemia
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The regulation of protein phosphorylation requires a balance in the activity of protein kinases and protein phosphatases. Our previous data indicates that Src can increase ERK activity through Raf kinase in response to ischemic stimuli. This study examined the molecular mechanisms by which Src activates ERK cascade through protein phosphatases following cerebral ischemia.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Ischemia-induced Src activation is followed by phosphorylation of PP2A at Tyr307 leading to its inhibition in the rat hippocampus. SU6656, a Src inhibitor, up-regulates PP2A activity, resulting in a significant decreased activity in ERK and its targets, CREB and ERα. In addition, the PP2A inhibitor, cantharidin, led to an up-regulation of ERK activity and was able to counteract Src inhibition during ischemia.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Src induces up-regulation of ERK activity and its target transcription factors, CREB and ERα, through attenuation of PP2A activity. Therefore, activation of ERK is the result of a crosstalk between two pathways, Raf-dependent positive regulators and PP2A-dependent negative regulators.</p
Masked Transformer for Electrocardiogram Classification
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is one of the most important diagnostic tools in
clinical applications. With the advent of advanced algorithms, various deep
learning models have been adopted for ECG tasks. However, the potential of
Transformers for ECG data is not yet realized, despite their widespread success
in computer vision and natural language processing. In this work, we present a
useful masked Transformer method for ECG classification referred to as MTECG,
which expands the application of masked autoencoders to ECG time series. We
construct a dataset comprising 220,251 ECG recordings with a broad range of
diagnoses annoated by medical experts to explore the properties of MTECG. Under
the proposed training strategies, a lightweight model with 5.7M parameters
performs stably well on a broad range of masking ratios (5%-75%). The ablation
studies highlight the importance of fluctuated reconstruction targets, training
schedule length, layer-wise LR decay and DropPath rate. The experiments on both
private and public ECG datasets demonstrate that MTECG-T significantly
outperforms the recent state-of-the-art algorithms in ECG classification
Analysis And Control Of Severe Vibration Of A Screw Compressor Outlet Piping System
The severe vibration of a screw compressor outlet piping system caused the fatigue failure of some thermowells and the unscheduled shut down of the system. The main reasons of the abnormal vibration in the outlet piping system were investigated by developing an acoustic model to simulate the gas pulsation and establishing two finite element models to conduct the mechanical vibration analyses. The acoustic analysis results showed that the pulsation amplitudes of most nodes in the outlet piping system exceeded the allowable values. The results of mechanical vibration analyses indicated that the insufficient stiffness of the outlet piping system and the first-order structure resonance occurred on thermowells were also the key factors inducing vibration. Several methods were put forward to attenuate vibration amplitude of the outlet piping system as well as the thermowells. A new pulsation attenuator was installed and the piping layout was rearranged to reduce pulsation amplitudes and shaking forces of all nodes in the outlet piping system. Several reasonable supports were added to improve the stiffness of the outlet piping system. After reinforcing the thermowells, the first-order natural frequency of the thermowells increased from 207.4Hz to 280.7Hz, away from the excitation frequency of 196.67Hz. The field measurement results showed that vibration amplitude and the vibration velocity decreased significantly after modifications
In Vitro and In Vivo Effects of A Cyclooxygenase-2 Inhibitor Nimesulide Analog JCC76 in Aromatase Inhibitors-Insensitive Breast Cancer Cells
Third generation aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are more effective than tamoxifen in the treatment of estrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer. However, long-term use of AIs commonly results in resistance. We examined whether compound JCC76{Cyclohexanecarboxylic acid [3-(2,5-dimethyl-benzyloxy)-4-(methanesulfonyl-methyl-amino)-phenyl]-amide}, an analog of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor nimesulide, can inhibit the growth of AI-insensitive breast cancer cells and the mechanisms by which the compound affects cell proliferation. LTEDaro (long term estrogen deprived MCF-7aro cell) cells, which are a model for AI resistance, were used in this study. JCC76 effectively inhibited LTEDaro cell proliferation with an IC50 of 2.75 ± 0.31 μM. Further investigations reveal that the compound significantly induced apoptosis in LTEDaro cells by decreasing pAKT, BCL-2 and pBad protein levels, which were all up regulated in the cells after long term estrogen deprivation. LTEDaro tumor size and weight were decreased in ovariectomized nude mice treated with the compound, and cell apoptosis in the tumor tissue was increased compared to the control. The animal weight remained almost unchanged which indicated the low toxicity of the compound. These results suggest that JCC76 overcame AI resistance by inducing cell apoptosis as illustrated in the in vitro and in vivo models. Collectively, results from this study provide data to support that nimesulide analog JCC76 may be a new drug candidate to treat AI-resistant breast cancers. It could be also used as a lead to design and synthesize more potent derivatives
