    A meta-analysis of efficacy and safety of doripenem for treating bacterial infections

    AbstractObjectiveThe aim of this article is to compare the efficacy and safety of doripenem for bacterial infections.MethodsWe included six randomized clinical trials identified from PubMed and Embase up to July 31, 2014. The included trials compared efficacy and safety of doripenem for complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infection, nosocomial pneumonia, and acute biliary tract infection. The meta-analysis was carried on by the statistical software of Review Manager, version 5.2.ResultsCompared with empirical antimicrobial agents on overall treatment efficacy, doripenem was associated with similar clinical and microbiological treatment success rates (for the clinical evaluable population, odds ratio [OR]=1.26, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.93–1.69, p=0.13; for clinical modified intent-to-treatment population, OR=0.88, 95% CI 0.55–1.41, p=0.60; for microbiology evaluable population, OR=1.16, 95% CI 0.90–1.50, p=0.26; for microbiological modified intent-to-treatment (m-mITT), OR=0.98, 95% CI 0.81–1.20, p=0.87). We compared incidence of adverse events and all-cause mortality to analyze treatment safety. The outcomes suggested that doripenem was similar to comparators in terms of incidence of adverse events and all-cause mortality on modified intent-to-treatment population (for incidence of AEs, OR=1.10, 95% CI 0.90–1.35, p=0.33; for all-cause mortality, OR=1.08, 95% CI 0.77–1.51, p=0.67). In nosocomial pneumonia and ventilator-associated pneumonia treatment, doripenem was not inferior to other antibacterial agents in terms of efficacy and safety.ConclusionFrom this meta-analysis, we can conclude that doripenem is as valuable and well-tolerated than empirical antimicrobial agents for complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infection, acute biliary tract infection and nosocomial pneumonia treatment

    The title compound, C8H8N4, possesses crystallographic mirror symmetry, with four C atoms lying on the reflecting plane, which bis­ects the phenyl and tetra­zole rings. It is composed of a planar r.m.s. deviation (0.0012 Å) tetra­zole ring which is nearly coplanar with the benzene ring, the dihedral angle being 2.67 (9)°. In the crystal, symmetry-related mol­ecules are linked by inter­molecular N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds. The mol­ecules stack along [100] with a π⋯π inter­action involving the phenyl and tetra­zole rings of adjacent mol­ecules [centroid–centroid distance = 3.5639 (15) Å]. The H atom of the N—H group is disordered over two sites of equal occupancy. The methyl H atoms were modelled as disordered over two sets of sites of equal occupancy rotated by 60° with respect to each other

    Traumatic neuroma in a patient with breast cancer after mastectomy: a case report and review of the literature

    The incidence of traumatic neuroma is extremely low, especially in those patients with breast cancer after mastectomy. There are only 10 cases reported in the literature. We report a patient who developed a palpable nodular mass near the mastectomy scar. The result of excisional biopsy was traumatic neuroma. Review of the literature reveal 10 cases with breast cancer of traumatic neuromas after mastectomy. Traumatic neuroma is a benign lesion and a reparative response of the nerve to injury, either direct/indirect trauma or chronic inflammation. Benign lesions as traumatic neuromas are more rarely seen after mastectomy. However, in order to manage patients' treatment, the most critical problem is to distinguish it from recurrent breast carcinoma. Although assistant examination methods such as ultrasound and computed tomography are valuable to a certain extent, the final diagnosis can only be confirmed on pathologic examination

    Molecular identification of endophytic fungi from Aquilaria sinensis and artificial agarwood induced by pinholes-infusion technique

    Agarwood, the resinous portions of Aquilaria plants, have been used as medicines and incenses. Aquilaria sinensis is the major producer of agarwood in China. Agarwood are generally viewed as pathological products formed as defense symptom against fungal infection. In this study, microbial communities inhabiting the leaves of non-resinous and agarwood-producing wounded A. sinensis tree were investigated by cultivation-independent approaches, such as PCR, restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis and sequencing of rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) library. Molecular phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that Botryosphaeria, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Phomopsis and Cylindrocladium species are members of the agarwood-producing wounded tree, while Phoma, Mycosphaerella, Sagenomella, Alternaria and Ramichloridium species is able to colonize the non-resinous tree internally. C. gloeosporioides was the only fungus shared by the two rDNA ITS libraries. C. gloeosporoides, Botryosphaeria, and Cylindrocladium were considered to be related to agarwood formation. A pinholes-infusion method to induce the generation of agarwood by chemically stimulated and/or inoculate combined method was established. One to two years after the artificial inoculation, resinous wood were collected and the inoculating effects were detected by ethanol extraction content, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) techniques.     A Novel Parallel Transmission Strategy for Data Grid

    Creation of multi-copies accelerates data transmission and reduces network traffic, but it causes overhead storage and additional network traffic. A variety of parallel transmission algorithms based on GridFTP and multi-copy can be used to accelerate data transmission further, but they can not adapt to a wide range of network, and they can not be used to solve the problems of storage space and network traffic waste. GridTorrent combined with BitTorrent and GridFTP has compatibility with grid and has flexible scalability, but the speed is very slow when there are few peers, to solve this problem multicopy is needed also. To achieve multiple optimization objectives of storage space saving, suitable for two kinds of application modes(i.e. parallel transfer based on GridFTP and BitTorrent), adaptability for wide range of network and higher performance when there are fewer peers, based on the idea of GridTorrent, a distributed storage model, parallel transfer algorithm and virtual peer strategy are proposed. In experiments the performance is compared among the verification system VPG-Torrent and original parallel transfer algorithm(DCDA) only based on GridfTP & multi-copy and GridTorrent. When the same amount of data is deployed VPG-Torrent has better performance than DCDA, and when there are fewer peers VPG-Torrent also exceed GridTorrent, which prove the effectiveness of VPG-Torrent

    EdgeMA: Model Adaptation System for Real-Time Video Analytics on Edge Devices

    Real-time video analytics on edge devices for changing scenes remains a difficult task. As edge devices are usually resource-constrained, edge deep neural networks (DNNs) have fewer weights and shallower architectures than general DNNs. As a result, they only perform well in limited scenarios and are sensitive to data drift. In this paper, we introduce EdgeMA, a practical and efficient video analytics system designed to adapt models to shifts in real-world video streams over time, addressing the data drift problem. EdgeMA extracts the gray level co-occurrence matrix based statistical texture feature and uses the Random Forest classifier to detect the domain shift. Moreover, we have incorporated a method of model adaptation based on importance weighting, specifically designed to update models to cope with the label distribution shift. Through rigorous evaluation of EdgeMA on a real-world dataset, our results illustrate that EdgeMA significantly improves inference accuracy.Comment: Accepted by 30th International Conference on Neural Information Processing (ICONIP 2023

    Altered Brain Functional Hubs and Connectivity Underlie Persistent Somatoform Pain Disorder

    This study investigated the degree of brain functional impairment in persistent somatoform pain disorder (PSPD) by examining changes in the patterns of brain functional hubs. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging was performed in 21 PSPD patients with headache as the main symptom and 17 sex- and age-matched healthy controls. Degree centrality (DC) analysis as well as the connectivity among these hubs by functional connectivity (FC) analysis and Granger causality analysis (GCA) were performed to characterize abnormal brain networks in PSPD (Gaussian random field corrected: P < 0.001, Z > 3.09). The relationships between DC and connectivity and clinical parameters were also examined. DC values in the bilateral inferior occipital gyrus (IOG), bilateral calcarine fissure (CAL), and left paracentral lobule (PCL) and FC values of right IOG–left CAL, right IOG–right CAL, right IOG–left IOG, left CAL–right CAL, left CAL–left IOG, left CAL–left PCL, right CAL–left PCL, and left IOG–left PCL were lower in PSPD patients as compared to controls. A negative causal effect from the left CAL to the left paracentral lobule and a positive effect from the right CAL to the right IOG were observed in PSPD patients. Abnormal DC, FC, and signed-path coefficients in PSPD patients were negatively correlated with self-rating anxiety and depression scale scores. These results indicate that altered functional hubs and connectivity patterns in the somatosensory cortex may reflect emotional disturbance in PSPD patients

    Radio Plateaus in Gamma-Ray Burst Afterglows and Their Application in Cosmology

    The plateau phase in the radio afterglows has been observed in very few gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), and 27 radio light curves with plateau phase were acquired from the published literature in this article. We obtain the related parameters of the radio plateau, such as temporal indexes during the plateau phase (α1\alpha_1 and α2\alpha_2), break time (\Tbz) and the corresponding radio flux (FbF_{\rm b}). The two parameter Dainotti relation between the break time of the plateau and the corresponding break luminosity (\Lbz) in radio band is \Lbz \propto \Tbz^{-1.20\pm0.24}. Including the isotropic energy \Eiso and the peak energy \Epi, the three parameter correlations for the radio plateaus are written as \Lbz \propto \Tbz^{-1.01 \pm 0.24} \Eiso^{0.18 \pm 0.09} and \Lbz \propto \Tbz^{-1.18 \pm 0.27} \Epi^{0.05 \pm 0.28}, respectively. The correlations are less consistent with that of X-ray and optical plateaus, implying that radio plateaus may have a different physical mechanism. The typical frequencies crossing the observational band may be a reasonable hypothesis that causes the breaks of the radio afterglows. We calibrate GRBs empirical luminosity correlations as standard candle for constraining cosmological parameters, and find that our samples can constrain the flat Λ\LambdaCDM model well, while are not sensitive to non-flat Λ{\Lambda}CDM model. By combining GRBs with other probes, such as SN and CMB, the constraints on cosmological parameters are \om = 0.297\pm0.006 for the flat Λ{\Lambda}CDM model and \om = 0.283\pm0.008, \oL = 0.711\pm0.006 for the non-flat Λ{\Lambda}CDM model, respectively.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures and 6 tables, accepted for publication in Ap

    Authentic Leadership and Proactive Behavior: The Role of Psychological Capital and Compassion at Work

    This study, which is based on survey data provided by 445 employees from a Chinese enterprise, examines the impact of authentic leadership on the proactive behavior of subordinates, in particular the mediating effect of subordinate psychological capital and the moderating effect of compassion at work. The results of our structural equation model reveal that: (1) There is a significant positive correlation between authentic leadership and the proactive behavior of subordinates; (2) psychological capital plays a full mediating role between authentic leadership and subordinate proactive behavior; (3) Compassion at work has a moderating effect on the positive relationship between authentic leadership and subordinate psychological capital and proactive behavior
