Parameter Estimation for Class a Modeled Ocean Ambient Noise
A Gaussian distribution is used by all traditional underwater acoustic signal processors, thus neglecting the impulsive property of ocean ambient noise in shallow waters. Undoubtedly, signal processors designed with a Gaussian model are sub-optimal in the presence of non-Gaussian noise. To solve this problem, firstly a quantile-quantile (Q-Q) plot of real data was analyzed, which further showed the necessity of investigating a non-Gaussian noise model. A Middleton Class A noise model considering impulsive noise was used to model non-Gaussian noise in shallow waters. After that, parameter estimation for the Class A model was carried out with the characteristic function. Lastly, the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper was verified by using simulated data and real data
The inverse electromagnetic scattering problem in a piecewise homogeneous medium
This paper is concerned with the problem of scattering of time-harmonic
electromagnetic waves from an impenetrable obstacle in a piecewise homogeneous
medium. The well-posedness of the direct problem is established, employing the
integral equation method. Inspired by a novel idea developed by Hahner [11], we
prove that the penetrable interface between layers can be uniquely determined
from a knowledge of the electric far field pattern for incident plane waves.
Then, using the idea developed by Liu and Zhang [21], a new mixed reciprocity
relation is obtained and used to show that the impenetrable obstacle with its
physical property can also be recovered. Note that the wave numbers in the
corresponding medium may be different and therefore this work can be considered
as a generalization of the uniqueness result of [20].Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures, submitted for publicatio
Surface Morphology of Laser-Superheated Pb(111) and Pb(100)
The surface step density on the vicinal Pb(111) and the surface vacancy density on Pb(100) after laser superheating and melting are investigated using reflection high-energy electron diffraction. With ∼100-ps laser pulses, Pb(111) surface superheating does not significantly change the density of the steps and step-edge roughness. However, after laser surface melting, the average terrace width and the string length at the step edge become as large as those at room temperature. The average terrace width at 573 K changes from 38±15 to 64±19 Å after laser surface melting, while the average string length at the step edge changes from 90±14 to 250±38 Å. For Pb(100), the surface vacancy density remains unchanged when the surface is superheated without melting. However, when the laser fluence is high enough to cause surface melting, the surface vacancy density increases. This increase in vacancy density is attributed to fast diffusion of atoms in the liquid film formed on Pb(100) during laser melting

Asymmetry of Strange Sea in Nucleons
Based on the finite-temperature field theory, we evaluate the medium effects
in nucleon which can induce an asymmetry between quarks and antiquarks of the
strange sea. The short-distance effects determined by the weak interaction can
give rise to where is the medium-induced mass of strange quark by a few KeV at
most, but the long-distance effects by strong interaction are sizable. Our
numerical results show that there exists an obvious mass difference between
strange and anti-strange quarks, as large as 10-100 MeV.Comment: 15 latex pages, 3 figures, to appear in PR
Quantum theory of electronic double-slit diffraction
The phenomena of electron, neutron, atomic and molecular diffraction have
been studied by many experiments, and these experiments are explained by some
theoretical works. In this paper, we study electronic double-slit diffraction
with quantum mechanical approach. We can obtain the results: (1) When the slit
width is in the range of we can obtain the obvious
diffraction patterns. (2) when the ratio of , order are missing in
diffraction pattern. (3)When the ratio of , there isn't missing order in diffraction pattern. (4) We
also find a new quantum mechanics effect that the slit thickness has a
large affect to the electronic diffraction patterns. We think all the
predictions in our work can be tested by the electronic double-slit diffraction
experiment.Comment: 9pages, 14figure
