Robust fuzzy PSS design using ABC

This paper presents an Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) algorithm to tune optimal rule-base of a Fuzzy Power System Stabilizer (FPSS) which leads to damp low frequency oscillation following disturbances in power systems. Thus, extraction of an appropriate set of rules or selection of an optimal set of rules from the set of possible rules is an important and essential step toward the design of any successful fuzzy logic controller. Consequently, in this paper, an ABC based rule generation method is proposed for automated fuzzy PSS design to improve power system stability and reduce the design effort. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on a 3-machine 9-bus standard power system in comparison with the Genetic Algorithm based tuned FPSS under different loading condition through ITAE performance indices

An International Comparison of Lower Elementary School Schedules

International comparisons indicate that U.S. students test below other industrialized countries. Researchers identify a shorter school day and year as a possible reason. While recognizing the fundamental differences from country to country, this study focuses on the measurable variables; days of instruction per year and total hours of instruction for lower elementary students. Comparisons with Japan, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, and the United States, find that U.S. instructional days are fewer, however, the length of day is longer, and that total annual hours are second only to Japan. The amounts of homework and out of school learning are also discussed. The three month U.S. summer vacation schedule, which results in greater review time, is examined. Summary. Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change are expected to agree on a new international climate agreement applicable to all countries from 2020 at the Paris climate summit in December 2015. This Policy Brief investigates the possible role of the European Union (EU) towards the 2015 Paris climate agreement. It argues for renewed efforts by the EU at coalition building with progressive developing countries, leadership by example and a more prominent, complementary role of individual EU member states. It also argues for a Paris agreement that provides a strong “signal” and “direction”, and discusses what this may entail
