    A Perspective on Hadron Physics

    The phenomena of confinement and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking are basic to understanding hadron observables. They can be explored using Dyson-Schwinger equations. The existence of a systematic, nonperturbative and symmetry preserving truncation of these equations enables the proof of exact results in QCD, and their illustration using simple but accurate models. We provide a sketch of the material qualitative and quantitative success that has been achieved in the study of pseudoscalar and vector mesons. Efforts are now turning to the study of baryons, which we exemplify via a calculation of nucleon weak and pionic form factors.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures.     Territorial behavior and the economics of Botnets

    This paper looks at the economics associated with botnets. This research can be used to calculate territorial sizes for online criminal networks. Looking at the types of systems we can compare the time required to maintain the botnet against the benefits received. In doing this it will be possible to formulate economic defence strategies that reduce the benefits received through the control of the botnet. We look at the decision to be territorial or not from the perspective of the criminal bot-herder. This is extended to an analysis of territorial size. The criminal running a botnet seeks to maximize profit. In doing this they need analyse the costs expended and benefits received against the territorial size. The result is a means to calculate the optimal size of the botnet and the expected returns. This information can be used to formulate security strategies that are designed to reduce the profitability of criminal botnets

    It ought to be a fairly safe assumption that a CI analyst would want to perform the analysis task and execute their responsibilities successfully over time. Such competencies should come with added experience on the job, as should the ability to reduce the risk of failure by diagnosing potential pitfalls. This paper presents a) a unique four-level hierarchical model of analysis failure, b) ten key continua of competitive analysis skills which we believe an analyst has to master before they can consider themselves to be truly competent in their work, c) a discussion on the paucity of high quality teaching of these skills, and d) presents eight guiding principles which a firm should consider in an attempt to improve individual performance and reduce the potential for analysis failure. Our purpose in identifying the possibility and causes of analytical failure is that we believe much can be learned by managers and practitioners from studying failures. This learning can ultimately contribute towards creating a more successful analysis function which can only be beneficial to all concerned

    From Bitcoin to Bitcoin Cash: a network analysis

    Bitcoins and Blockchain technologies are attracting the attention of different scientific communities. In addition, their widespread industrial applications and the continuous introduction of cryptocurrencies are also stimulating the attention of the public opinion. The underlying structure of these technologies constitutes one of their core concepts. In particular, they are based on peer-to-peer networks. Accordingly, all nodes lie at the same level, so that there is no place for privileged actors as, for instance, banking institutions in classical financial networks. In this work, we perform a preliminary investigation on two kinds of network, i.e. the Bitcoin network and the Bitcoin Cash network. Notably, we analyze their global structure and we try to evaluate if they are provided with a small-world behavior. Results suggest that the principle known as 'fittest-gets-richer', combined with a continuous increasing of connections, might constitute the mechanism leading these networks to reach their current structure.
