    Using NMR to Measure Fractal Dimensions

    A comment is made on the recent PFG NMR measurements by Stallmach, et al. on water-saturated sands [Phys. Rev. Lett. 88, 105505 (2002)]. It is pointed out that the usual law for the time-dependent diffusion coefficient D(t) used by these authors is not valid for a fractal surface. It is shown that (1-D(t)/D0) \~ t^[(3-Ds)/2] at short times for a surface of fractal dimension Ds, where D0 is the bulk diffusion coefficient. Preliminary PFG NMR data on water saturated limestone and plastic beads are presented to illustrate this analysis.Comment: 1 page, 1 figur

    Recent results on top-quark mass measurements with the ATLAS detector using proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider are presented. These results correspond to the measurements in the ttˉt\bar{t} all-hadronic and dilepton channels at s=8 TeV\sqrt{s} = 8\ \mathrm{TeV} collisions and an integrated luminosity of 20 fb−120\ \mathrm{fb}^{-1}.Comment: 5 page

    Quality of Move-Optimal Schedules for Minimizing the Vector Norm of the Workloads

    We study the problem of minimizing the vector norm ∣∣⋅∣∣p||\cdot||_p of the workloads. We examine move-optimal assignments and prove a performance guarantee of 2p−1p⋅(p−12p−2)p−1p,\frac{2^p-1}{p} \cdot \left(\frac{p-1}{2^p-2}\right)^{\frac{p-1}{p}}, for any integer p>1p>1 and moreover, we show that this guarantee is tight. Additionally, we consider assignments obtained by applying the LPT-heuristic of Graham (1969). We prove that an LPT-assignment has a performance guarantee of 3p−2pp⋅(p−12⋅3p−3⋅2p)p−1p,\frac{3^p-2^p}{p} \cdot \left(\frac{p-1}{2 \cdot 3^p - 3 \cdot 2^p}\right)^{\frac{p-1}{p}}, which reproves a result of Chandra and Wong (1975)

    ABSTRAK Sumber Daya Manusia merupakan unsur penting yang ada pada diri individu (karyawan) dan dikembangkan secara maksimal untuk mencapai tujuan perusahaan dan pengembangan dalam kinerja karyawan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh komunikasi interpersonal, stress kerja, dan motivasi kerja terhadap kinerja karyawan PT Wong Bejo Joyo Surabaya. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan kuantitatif. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan nonprobability sampling dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 63 responden. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh karyawan PT Wong Bejo Joyo Surabaya. Metode analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode linier berganda, uji kelayakan model dan pengujian hipotesis dengan menggunakan SPSS. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa variabel komunikasi interpersonal berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan dengan diperoleh tingkat signifikasi pada uji t sebesar 0.000 < 0.05. Stress kerja berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan dengan diperoleh tingkat signifikasi pada uji t sebesar 0.000 < 0.05. Motivasi kerja berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja karyawan dengan diperoleh tingkat signifikasi pada uji t sebesar 0.024 < 0.05.
