Brewster's angle silicon wafer terahertz linear polarizer
International audienceWe present a new cost-effective terahertz linear polarizer made from a stack of silicon wafers at Brewster's angle, andevaluate its performances. We show that this polarizer is wide-band, has a high extinction ratio (> 6 Ă— 103) and very small insertion losses (inf 1%). We provide measurements of the temporal waveforms after linearly polarizing the THz beam and show that there is no distortion of the pulse. We compare its performances with a commercial wire-grid polarizer, and show that the Brewster's angle polarizer can conveniently be used to control the power of a terahertz beam. Beam waist measurement for terahertz time-domain spectroscopy experiments
International audienceClassical masking aperture methods are found to be mostly inaccurate to determine the terahertz beam size in terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (TDS) experiments, owing to complex diffraction effects. Here, we present a simple and reliable method for measuring beam waists in terahertz TDS. It is based on the suecessive diffraction by an opaque disk followed by a small circular aperture. Towards Full Field-of-View Fourier Ptychography for Extreme Ultraviolet Microscope
We evaluate various Fourier ptychographic microscopy (FPM) reconstruction algorithms using both simulated and experimental data acquired from an Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV, 13.5 nm wavelength) microscope. We specifically focus on the algorithms' ability to robustly address field-dependent aberrations, which enables increased spatial resolution and quantitative phase imaging across an expanded field of view. We systematically compare the algorithms' performance under aberrations for a single zoneplate imaging system, utilizing Fourier Ring Correlation (FRC) as a systematic metric for assessing reconstruction quality. Furthermore, we explore the impact of systematic errors on the reconstruction of experimental data, aiming to increase the effective field of view by 25-fold, from the nominal 5x5 um2 diffraction-limited area. Additionally, our evaluation incorporates innovative FPM-adjacent methodologies, including the Angular Ptychographic Imaging with Closed-form method (APIC), for reconstructing EUV images
The terahertz domain is a vast yet largely unexplored part of the electromagnetic spectrum, in spite of the virtues conferred by its intermediary situation between radar waves and infrared. Recent technological breakthroughs now allow to generate very short terahertz pulses and to proceed to a time-resolved detection of the associated electric field. The joint determination of phase and amplitude empowers to build new measurement schemes and opens us new possibilities in the processing of collected data. The phase plays a major role in the study on phenomena involving the polarization of electromagnetic waves, and assumes a peculiar meaning when dealing with ultra-sort pulses. The study of these particularities has motivated the design of achromatic polarizing elements fitted for the terahertz range using specific dielectric reflection conditions. These elements allow harnessing the differential phases and amplitudes between the two components of the electric field, so as to generate any kind of coherent polarization state. Associated with terahertz pulses are with submilllimeter wavelengths, which provide a decent spatial resolution when it comes to image objects, while information in the time domain can still be exploited. We carried out some imaging procedures with a view to pick the ones who were the better adapted to biological imaging. In order to take advantage of the sensitivity of the waves to ionic content of solutions and to cope with the high absorption of water in this frequency range, we developed a new imaging technique based on total internal reflection phenomenon. This technique gains its sensitivity from the measurement of the phase, while having an excellent transverse resolution which is well suited when it comes to study thin biological objects such as neurons or cell layers.
Attenuated internal reflection terahertz imaging
International audienceWe present a terahertz (THz) imaging technique based on attenuated internal reflection, which is ideally suited for the analysis of liquid and biological samples. Inserted in a THz time-domain system, and using a high-resistivity low loss silicon prism to couple the THz wave into the sample, the detection scheme is based on the relative differential spectral phase of two orthogonal polarizations. Biological sample imaging as well as subwavelength (?/16) longitudinal resolution are demonstrated. Cop. 2013 Optical Society of America
Total internal reflection Terahertz imaging
International audienceWe present a new Terahertz imaging scheme based on total internal reflection that allows the study of aqueous samples while improving the longitudinal resolution. We were able to image a frog neuron using the spectral phase of the THz pulses using this technique. © 2011 IEEE
