Quasi-point separation of variables for the Henon-Heiles system and a system with quartic potential
We examine the problem of integrability of two-dimensional Hamiltonian
systems by means of separation of variables. The systematic approach to
construction of the special non-pure coordinate separation of variables for
certain natural two-dimensional Hamiltonians is presented. The relations with
SUSY quantum mechanics are discussed.Comment: 11 pages, Late
The reasons for occupational burnout in nursing
Here, the factors responsible for the occurrence of occupational burnout syndrome are discussed in detail. The personal features of a person who is highly susceptible for this syndrome are characterized. The attention is paid to the fact that the overload of work is dependent on two factors, namely a nurse’s expectations and scope (intelligence, memory, plasticity of thinking, nervous system reactivity, emotional resistance, psychomotor function)
The effects of occupational burnout and stress-management measures
The discussion is focused on the measures needed to reinstate emotional balance; in other words, stress management methods. The authors present, among others, strategies proposed by Lazarus, Ratajczak, Sęk, Rogers. They underline the fact that the treatment of occupational burnout is essentially difficult. The preventive methods are quite hard to introduce and often they would require fundamental changes in the system such as salary increases, more favourable working conditions or improving the perception of staff authority. The occupational burnout therapy should be handled by professionals
The essence of occupational burnout
The authors characterize occupational burnout syndrome. They pay attention to its symptoms and levels. They emphasize that doctors and nurses are the ones exposed for the development of this condition most, as they have to deal with negative emotions, suffering and chronic stress
Wheat-barley hybridization – the last forty years
Abstract Several useful alien gene transfers have
been reported from related species into wheat (Triticum
aestivum), but very few publications have dealt
with the development of wheat/barley (Hordeum
vulgare) introgression lines. An overview is given
here of wheat 9 barley hybridization over the last
forty years, including the development of
wheat 9 barley hybrids, and of addition and translocation
lines with various barley cultivars. A short
summary is also given of the wheat 9 barley hybrids
produced with other Hordeum species. The meiotic
pairing behaviour of wheat 9 barley hybrids is presented,
with special regard to the detection of wheat–
barley homoeologous pairing using the molecular
cytogenetic technique GISH. The effect of in vitro
multiplication on the genome composition of intergeneric
hybrids is discussed, and the production and
characterization of the latest wheat/barley translocation
lines are presented. An overview of the agronomical
traits (b-glucan content, earliness, salt tolerance,
sprouting resistance, etc.) of the newly developed
introgression lines is given. The exploitation and
possible use of wheat/barley introgression lines for
the most up-to-date molecular genetic studies
(transcriptome analysis, sequencing of flow-sorted
chromosomes) are also discussed
Aegilops-Secale amphiploids: chromosome categorisation, pollen viability and identification of fungal disease resistance genes
The aim of this study was to assess the potential breeding value of goatgrass-rye amphiploids, which we are using as a “bridge” in a transfer of Aegilops chromatin (containing, e.g. leaf rust resistance genes) into triticale. We analysed the chromosomal constitution (by genomic in situ hybridisation, GISH), fertility (by pollen viability tests) and the presence of leaf rust and eyespot resistance genes (by molecular and endopeptidase assays) in a collection of 6× and 4× amphiploids originating from crosses between five Aegilops species and Secale cereale. In the five hexaploid amphiploids Aegilops kotschyi × Secale cereale (genome UUSSRR), Ae. variabilis × S. cereale (UUSSRR), Ae. biuncialis × S. cereale (UUMMRR; two lines) and Ae. ovata × S. cereale (UUMMRR), 28 Aegilops chromosomes were recognised, while in the Ae. tauschii × S. cereale amphiploid (4×; DDRR), only 14 such chromosomes were identified. In the materials, the number of rye chromosomes varied from 14 to 16. In one line of Ae. ovata × S. cereale, the U-R translocation was found. Pollen viability varied from 24.4 to 75.4%. The leaf rust resistance genes Lr22, Lr39 and Lr41 were identified in Ae. tauschii and the 4× amphiploid Ae. tauschii × S. cereale. For the first time, the leaf rust resistance gene Lr37 was found in Ae. kotschyi, Ae. ovata, Ae. biuncialis and amphiploids derived from those parental species. No eyespot resistance gene Pch1 was found in the amphiploids
Treatment of landfill leachate by constructed wetlands
The performance of three constructed wetlands systems treating landfill leachate is described. Two are located in northern Poland (Szadolki near Gdansk and Gatka near Miastko) and one in southern Sweden (Örebro). The constructed wetlands in Szadolki consists of two parallel silty soil beds planted with reed with sub-surface horizontal flow of sewage. The constructed wetland in Gatka is a willow plantation on sandy soil, receiving leachate after preliminary sedimentation in a retention pond. The system in Örebro consists of a series of ponds with a surface flow of leachate, preceded by pre-treatment in an aerated tank with nitrogen stripping. The best treatment efficiencies were observed at Örebro. At the sub-surface flow wetlands in Szadolki and Gatka clogging problems occurred due to the unsatisfactory pre-treatment and low soil hydraulic conductivity resulting in lower treatment efficiencies
